No, you aren't the only one. I'd take it over the FZ-09 without a second thought. I rented an FZ-09 for about a week, and by the time I returned it the CCT had failed and the engine was on it's way to self destruction. It turns out this is a very common problem with that motor, and as far as I've seen, it still has not been remedied to this very day.
I own the GSXS 750Z and i ilso had the chance to test ride the MT-09 . One thing i realized was that i had made the right choise. Plus if you watch the 2 bikes closely you ll see (its god damn obvious) that the Suzuki is the best looking bike.
This is THE bike for intermediate and newbie rider who appreciated the 4C sound. It is humble, able, quality and fun. The best part - cost the least among these bike !!!
Sarikei Rex Ahhh. I like reading that. I’m about to buy one in a cpl weeks and having just learned last summer, on a little cbr300, I’m kinda nervous about possibly killing myself haha. I’ve never felt the power of such a big engine... looking forward to it but pretty nervous too lol. Reading this comment helps 👍🏻
I'll take the better handling, smoother fueling and engine, and higher reliability and dependability of the Suzuki GSX-S750 over the very lacking in those areas Yamaha FZ/MT-09 every time.
I didnt hear any complaints about the 09s reliability. Generally speaking Yamaha is a very respectalbe and reliable brand. I thinkt he 09 sold so well because it was and still is something new and outstanding compared to the rest of its competitors.
Good review, you are right, Suzuki's pricing make it difficult to compete with Mt09 and Z900. I am getting one (2020 mat black ABS) but for the price of MT07 or maybe less, already paid the deposit for spring delivery.
I've got a GSR750, 2012 model. Gotta say I absolutely love the thing, and don't mind the bottom end torque it lacks compared to an MT09. I rode an MT09, was super impressed by it, but didn't feel connected to the road, and wasn't a massive fan of the riding position, it was such an alien bike. Pretty sure the fuel economy on the GSR/GSXS is waaaay better than the 09 as well, so factor that in if these are the bikes you're trying to pick between.
Amongst all the nakeds, I still say the Kawasaki Z series ie the Z800, Z900 and Z1000 are stunning looks macho with the transformer head lamp and fatty fuel tank. That should be the features and design of muscle naked, meant for fun, easy and happy riding, daily use in towns and cities along the winding conering hilly roads. It is not for racing or on track, as the RR versions are already meant for track.
The GSX S 750 2019 I tried was very jerky. But compared to other bikes it wasn't the worst one. But compared to my Kawasaki er6n 2009 ABS I can definitely say that my ER6N is a winner
Lot of good points made. And when considering the FZ/MT-09, one cannot ignore the new Z900 either. So basically now it's a matter of choosing where you want to be. 650? 750? 850? 950? 1000? 1077? Pick your poison. The never ending up-sizing and more-HP arguments will not clarify anything for a rider.
Hahaha ... sry but no ... the Kawasaki has an exelenct chassis and its suspension is atleast on par with all of its competitors. Its the only bike that is still analog and it needs a good chassis to compensate for it. Im not trying to put any bike over the other but saying that the Kawasaki is boring because its engine originated from a nakedbike instead of a supersport is stupid. The Z900 has a 948cc engine and instead of being super short stroke it is medium stroke engine so it doesnt require as much rpm but doesnt pick up rpm quite as fast. Still its far from being a dull engine and it too can be reved out at ones leisure. Also it has a nice intace noise.
In my country, there is a 1,800 dollar difference between the GSX and a Z900. and the MT09 is 2000 dollars more expensive than the GSX. Which one would you get for that price??
750 is a beauty~ In simple words, a very good everyday bike :) Everyone always try to tell me Yamaha is better go buy Yamaha, SUZUKI is cheap bla bla bla... You know what?! You are the cheap one. Why buy Yamaha if I can enjoy with my SUZUKI? It's all the downside that makes SUZUKI standout. 11yrs Endurance Race Champion. At least no one can beat that for now. Hehe. It's not about how fast you can go, it's about how far you can coup. No more Yamaha hype, you will makes me hate Yamaha one day.
Its just that that triple has alot of character. More than an inline 4. I hover like inline 4s just as much as i like triples. I love to wring out the engine to get to the power but at the same time i can appreciate lots of tourqe... everything has its up and downsides. One big nono regarding the MT 09 family of bikes is the stupid small fuel tank. Its like they deliberately tried to create downsides for the 09 because they didnt want to blow their competition out of the water completely ...
I'm not sure that reviewers put enough emphasis on people's preferences for certain engine configurations. If I want an i4 I'm not going to buy a triple & vice versa. My personal preference is for V-twins & then i4's so I probably wouldn't consider a triple, they just don't do it for me even if it may well be a "better" bike. I would go for the GSXS over the MT hands down.
I would rather have a bike they don't keep recalling, and will last more than 2 winters. Got a mate with an 09 (2016) and ALREADY the fasteners are furry as anything, and the forks have started to have pitting. No thanks Yamaha, I will stick with the dependable inline 4 Suzuki.
So four years on and now what? Writers seem to have forgotten the GSX S750. The MT09 has better geometry than before, EU5 and a fancy IMU. It also now costs more and Suzuki have held the price down. SO value for money? I have ridden both with a large gap between so no , the GSX more recently and loved it. Smooth and quick. Bit breezy at speed. Unfortunately weather and now another lock down means an AB test is not possible.
i know tht some people might say top speed is irrelevant, but if im going to buy a performance bike, ill be lying to myself if i say i dont care about top speed at all, and this bike is faster than the MT09 in stock condition. i wonder why yamaha restrict it so much.
I have a Yamaha fz09 and they prob restricted it so much to prevent death as the damn handlebars shake so much once you hit 190kmh it's unnerving AF. The front end is light as fuck and it doesn't have a steering damper. It's generally terrifying taking that bike over 200kmh
Yes ride quality counts, but I'm not worried about that as just about every person that had it out for a spin says how amazing it handles and refine it is. So if it rides good and looks good, who cares about the rest. Like for example, I don't give a crap if one goes 0 to 60 faster then the other. That's just about bragging rights. But I wouldn't want to ride a dog.
the gsxs is a far better by to the mt09, it actually handles and has a far better suspension set up. The feedback and geometry is in a different league to the mt09.
Has anyone thought about the fact that the mt09 has a bigger engine ? The fact that the smaller diplaced Suzuki developes the same (ish) power amd is in the run to compete actually tells you how good the 750 actually is.
Play around with the gearingcommander(dot)com website. It'll tell you all you need to know about the math of gearing. Although, I'm not sure the 2018 GSX-S has been added to the site yet, vs. the older GSR-based model.
George Beltran I think it depends on you are in rush hour or on open road...forget the rpm, just ride it as you want max 7.2 min 6 litre for me even I work hard or so...it is super smooth on city but as not economical on the city like a 2 cylinder...engine loves open roads and even on high rpm consumption is under 7 ...
It the best one to buy if ur a mountain rider. I’m waiting on a 2022 750 , n had the 1000. N the turn in a road has an Apex,k professional motorcycle reviewer 😂
The faster you want to go the less suited the MT09 is compared to this. Im not talking about pretty fast im talking about all out zero fucks levels of fast. The GSXS 750 has the same chassis as the GSXS 1000 wich in itself is based on an older version of the GSXR 1000. Meaning it has alot of potential. The MT 09 is more of a seperate nakedbike chassis with supermoto genes in the mix. Dont get me wrong i would pick the MT 09 over the Suzuki but only because the Yamaha dealer sould be closery by than the Suzuki one.
I think you concentrated too much on the specs rather than reality...yes the Yami has more torque and more "knobs to play with", but not only is the 750 a (imo) much more refined and "naturally matured" machine, but they also dont really compare when it comes to riding style and ergonomics...the 750 is pretty much "classic streetfighter", the Yami rides (or feels) more like a Supermoto...very top heavy...have you ever taken both bikes above 200kmh?! The Yami is UNRIDEBLE at those (and above) speeds! Its so unstable! On the Suzi though, you can freaking tackle corners at 220kmh no questions asked...
I have an fz09 and you are right the bike is downright terrifying at or near 200kmh. Before that I had the gsxr600 you see in my profile pic and that thing was butter smooth and stable at 200+. I'm trading my Yamaha in next week for a 2018 gsx s750z. Can't wait
MT09, & Z900 could not keep up with me on my gsxs750 the yam & kwacker dont go round scottish corners very well and the extra tourqe only makes their front ends go light. Tourqe is good for wheelies and not much else trust me I used to drive a 1200 bandit :) The suzuki is better in every department speed handling & looks the Yamaha & Kawasaki are shit END OF
Gram70 man don't explain, they will not get it mt09 is like a big super moto, kawa is far from being sport bike, just a big detuned engine on an old chassis...suzuki is excellent.
MT09 is a lazy riders bike. Nothing beats a real revving engine where you work the gears and really control the behavior of the bike. Stop the pathetic Yamaha bias.
Triples are superior to fours for road use , that's been obvious since the Street Triple came on the scene. Yamaha "bit the bullet" and put the money into developing there own and Suzuki and Honda are now at a serious disadvantage in the marketplace. They either develop there own , or undercut on price ....
I can get a new 2015 for $5,000! Sorry, but I'm of the school that happens to like the analog tach. These new bikes look cheap. Like they put a GPS mount and a tablet and call it an instrument cluster. I laugh. The loss of horsepower from old to new is negligible. So is the upgrade in brakes. Steel brake lines and EBC pads and you won't know the difference. ABS standard on new but can you even turn it off? If not it's just another cost cutting budget minded you that eventually gives you grief and is expensive to replace. You hardly use it anyway so I don't see a point to it as I'm old school and consider crap like ABS and traction control training wheels that blunt the true experience.
Wabbit1961 i agree whole heartedly!! Analog tachometers are so much more satisfying to see when you rev :D Also, people take about a good throttle hand all the time, but not a good braking hand. Guess that's why people need ABS. They panic brake for everything and have not been taught how to do it right from the beginning. Like, how often do you engage the abs in your car in normal weather? Never
I rode it and to be honest, it's more on the level of the MT-07 and should be priced accordingly (IMO the MT-07 is better). The MT-09 is in a different league, no comparison.
no dude sorry but the mt 07 is not better. 75HP against 112, 2 cylinder against 4, a shitty suspension against a good suspension. Come on, be realistic.
Zoharargov don't think you could have ridden it yet unless you're press or work for Suzuki? This is supposed to be better than the GSR and that was better than the MT07.
I call bullshit. Unless you're a test driver for Suzuki, you're a motorcycle journalist or you have business connections with Suzuki. This was recorded in the Launch even in Spain. You might have ridden the 2016 GSX-S750, which is basically just a GSR 750 in a fancy dress. And the MT-09's engine has a huge design flaw (which can be quite easily fixed, though). The cam chain tensioner is just rubbish. Atleast the Suzuki's engine is tried and tested and very reliable. I'm not saying the MT-09 is a bad bike. It's very good but there are some problems with it. The good thing is that there are lots of options now for everyone to choose from. Kawasaki Z900, Suzuki GSX-S750, Yamaha MT-09, Triumph Street Triple, Honda CB650F and even more if you're feeling adventurous.
Yes, you guys are right, I did ride the 16' model. My bad. However, unless there were significant upgrades made (and judging by the video, there haven't), I'd probably still go for an MT-07 over this. One thing is for sure though, the MT-09 is still miles above this.
Ugh no it's not. I rode just about everything Suzuki makes last summer, I rode a lot of Yamaha's, I rode KTM machines. A 750 is a 750 and it's not supposed to be anything else. If you wanted something else, stop complaining about what a 750 is not, and start praising it for what it is. A 689 twin is not a 750cc i-4. More than 30 hp difference between them and a totally different kind of power band.
The updates they did brought the bike up to where it should have been in the first place, at least for the release in the US 2 years ago. I have a 2012 FZ8 and I love the inline 4 character; pretty easy power until about 6k when it starts to really take off. I think if I had a bike without a bit of a 'hit' at the mid-range, it would lessen my enjoyment of acceleration somehow. Anyway, I love the blue/black color but I don't buy new bikes. Maybe next year when I can get a leftover for 1,000USD off msrp and 0% financing I'd think about it.
Like the guy says...bikes have moved on from this thing. This is beginner bike. The MT09 / FZ09 is for someone who can ride and handle the awesome torque it produces. This Suzuki isn't even in the same league as the Yamaha.
To put it bluntly and as someone said: This thing looks like they ran out of money from the swing arm pivot backwards. What could have been a proper looking motorcycle got ruined by shitty penny pinching tactics. Square section steel swing arm that look made by me on my back porch ? What is this ? A Honda Grom ? 😳👎 Hands down, MT-09 a better buy.
To be fair, it is built to a budget and it is a cheap bike. I take these reviews with a pinch of salt, I bought the GSR750 last year after test riding both the Suzuki and the Street Triple R and I genuinely preferred the Suzuki. Even though every single review made the Triumph out to be the better bike by a huge margin, on top of that Suzuki were doing 0% finance and triumph were 14.5% finance and the bike was £1000 more list price. I actually own both bikes now after getting a cheap 2011 STR and my opinion still hasn't changed, I like both bikes equally they just excel at different areas.
***** More times than once looks don't mean shit when it comes to what makes a decent motorcycle. It's always cool to hear from actual owners instead of some journalist that rode the thing for a couple of hours or so. 👍
JIGA BACHI - Those of us that do our own maintenance like the old square swingarms. That fancy, swirlie, swingarm on the 09 and a lot of other bikes is a pain in the butt. You have to buy stand sliders just to lift the rear wheel.
The market is now filling all the holes and you're complaining? Go back to the 1960s and see what kind of machinery they had to brag about. 650? 750? 850? 950? 1000? 1077? With several bikes even in-between these numbers on the market now, spreading between twins, triples, fours.......what's there to whine about? If you don't want or need the power of the 850 triple, it's great to know there's a bike slightly down from that, rather than settling for a 650 or even less. Lots of options is a GOOD thing. Stop whining about it. Stop calling well engineered and reliable motorcycles, garbage. Just buy one, use it, enjoy motorcycles.
I think it's one of the best looking bikes, it's nice to see a normal headlight for a change instead of looking like a wasp, ant or transformer

I rode and bought one today it's amazing so easy to ride, lovely induction noise great brakes cool !!
I like 4 zylinder bikes! And I like middleweight bikes! And the GSX-S 750 is a beauty.

... or you go the route of Kawasaki and throw a 948cc inline 4 into the middleweight class and see what happens,,,
I adore the Z900, and in a few years time, i will own one :-)
Never
The gsxs750 is $3000 cheaper than mt09 in India
More than 30 hp difference between them and a totally different kind of power band.
cheaper is always good
The updates they did brought the bike up to where it should have been in the first place, at least for the release in the US 2 years ago.
:D the apex predator
I think a gsxr is better
Its meant for the tracks,
Like the guy says...bikes have moved on from this thing. This is beginner bike.
The MT09 / FZ09 is for someone who can ride and handle the awesome torque it produces. This Suzuki isn't even in the same league as the Yamaha.
decent enough bike but utterly predictable and middle of the road, think they'll be discounting this one very rapidly.
get mt09 or xsr this bike is a load of crap compared to yams ive rode both test ride it before you buy,
Swing arm gsx1000 is better
The MT09 is fugly.
S750 should compare with mt07 instead 9
PREFER THE SUZUKI
Get the Kawasaki Z900... thats a no-brainer..
Hands down, MT-09 a better buy.
Are you thinking of the GSR-750? Because this new GSX-S 750 doesnt have a square box section swing arm...
***** I'm afraid you're correct after a closer look.
It still doesn't change my opinion that it looks "cheap" and built to a budget.
No thanks.
Let's just face it. It's a cheap piece of shit that's not as good as the MT-09 ... End of ...
Let's face it, MT-09 is just a cheap piece of shit. It has nothing on BMW S1000R.
Xerdoz S1000R is £4000 more.
S1000r is a premium supernaked. Why did you compare to a standard naked motorcycle.
Just buy one, use it, enjoy motorcycles.
lets face it the S1000R is an expensive piece of shit....has nothing on a 1290SDR
