The diamond pitch for quick set up. Good enough for mild rain and wind (if oriented properly). The tent-tarp pitch takes care of heavier weather where you may be dealing with not only rain, but wind that tends to shift around a lot. The two best all-around pitches in my opinion. Well done.

As an old primitive muzzleloader type person. The shelter you are using has been around for a long time. The diamond has many configurations and can be done with many kinds of tarps or home made. Canvas really looks nice.
For the budget minded a 9x12 black plastic sheet can do all that a tarp will. Use pine cones or small stones on the inside wrapped on the outside with paracord instead of sewn- in guyline attachment points. Have used many times in all kinds of weather and all kinds of shapes.

With a true 10'x10' tarp the half pyramid tent should have a peak height of 5' and a floor about 5' x 7'. The good things are door flaps that can be closed and no pole inside the tent. With a 10'x13" tarp, the half pyramid tent becomes the old two person hunting camp tent, with a floor size 7'x7' and a peak height of 6.5'. With a 9.5'x9.5' tarp, the peak height would be 4.75' and the floor size would be about 4.75'x6.7'. A smaller 8.5'x8.5' square tarp can make a half pyramid tent with a 4.25'' peak height with a floor size about 4.25'x6'. If that is a bit short, somebody could sleep at an angle inside, if required. A tarp 7.5'x12' can make a half pyramid tent 6' high at the peak, 7' wide and 4.7' deep, while an 8'x12' tarp can make one 6' high with 7'x5' floor space. A person would sleep across in these. The 10'x10' square tarp has been my favorite tarp size for shelter.

I normally keep a packaged handy-dandy (and free) Harbor Freight 5x7 in my pack for whatever needs, but this DST looks like a good investment.

good videos as always! only one question, I thought flying the tarp means its off the ground, so a diamond fly is when its flying in a diamond configuration. your first setup is a plough point as far as I've always known or am i wrong?. cool tent configuration though, I haven't seen that one before!

I usually throw down a heavy duty trash bag as a ground cloth. Tyvek works great as well.
I've heard of people using those reflective emergency blankets for ground cover.

A tyvek sheet works well and weighs next to nothing. It’s a little noisy though.
I use my mil poncho as a ground cloth. With a liner for extra thermal protection

It's a little bit thin and slick for that. Sill nylon is super slick so it might slide off if it were bumped.

Any included tent will condensate in humid conditions but opening it up helps a lot.
Open away from wind just a few inches for light air flow. We use a reflective in winter and that or low diamond solves the problem.
