This will never be raced widely. The Briggs 206 is locked and they have very good parity. These HF engines have neither and therefore would need blueprinted…. And no one wants to go back to the money burning process of blueprinting. The secret sauce to making LO206 racing affordable is the lock on the block. I wouldn’t race this engine if I got 10 for free, it would still be way too expensive.
I went with the Tillotson 212, billet rod and flywheel, gov removed, hot 265 cam, 22lb springs, TCT mechanical fuel injection, mb200 super pipe...built my own frame and forks from square tube ;)
The reason for classes in karting is for a level playing field. This engine is slightly above base model 212, with a better starting platform for mods, but that's not the role it's made to fill. It's geared toward racing out of the box and it will be a standard format to build more affordable karting leagues around. I'm glad to see it, and hoping that this will open up the kart racing world to more people who cant afford (or don't know about) LO206/Animal/WF racing leagues.
That was the idea behind converting to the clone from the Briggs flathead. More affordable. More available, and level (ish) playing field. By the time I got out of kart racing it was over 1000 usd for a good Honda clone that could compete at the top. It has merely replaced the Briggs flathead at this point as far as being super expensive to be competitive (outside of local track amateur classes). Man I miss it but the amount of work that goes into being competitive in kart racing is crazy. Got burned out on it. A race car is cheaper, easier to maintain and from my experience alot less work. Lol.
Base 212 in my opinion is better , don’t gotta worry about restriction on mods like flywheels and losing your higher rev limit. The ghost is more for people who just want to buy a “race engine” then spend another 2-300$ on a kit of plug and play accessories to complete it 😂 don’t get me wrong to each their own but I feel like if your gonna get into something you need to learn it
Nice video, thank you. I’m a new subscriber and totally enjoyed this video. I’ve been involved with kart racing for 34 years now. All 2 stroke engines. I currently have a shifter kart and a grandson interested in getting in a kart. But he definitely does not need to be in my kart. I came across a video last night on the HF 212cc Ghost engine. It peaked my interest. My wife and I discussed this engine over coffee this morning. So old 64 year old Papaw ran his happy butt down to Harbor Freight and grabbed a new 212cc Ghost Engine and the accessories package. Been reading up a little today and then came across your channel this evening. I love the way you unboxed this engine. Honest opinion and no BS. I’m anxious to watch more of your videos. I feel you will help me cut down my learning curve on 4 stroke engines. I sure hope so, because I know nothing about them. I’d like to keep this stock starting out. But I did pick up on your recommendation of replacing the cast iron flywheel from the get go. Kind of curious as to the best oil, spark plug, type of clutch or torque converter that you would recommend if you don’t mind? Any and all information or options would be greatly appreciated. Can’t wait to start through your previous videos that could help me with this Ghost engine. Keep up the great video work. Totally loving your style. God bless.
Man, the last engine I built was a EC Carbs 236cc Tilly stroker. There is just no going back from there. Such a torque monster. But also almost three times total $ for the build.
Just a reminder to some of your younger viewers. The sheet metal coming around the fins on the block and head is there to form a cooling cowling. Too many young minibike hobbyist think the is optional heat shield. Not the case, this sheet metal is there to keep the flywheel fan air moving in-between the fins for proper cooling. If you remove this sheet metal the fan pushed air will not stay in between the fins and the engine can over heat.
Nice looking engine! Subscribed! Back in the day, I had a Mac. 75 2-cycle, with dual carbs, stuffer manifold, 12:1 comp. head gasket. I had it on a Flexo Big Bear, (TINY) minibike. 6,000 RPM Centrifugal clutch. That thing hauled ass. 0-60 in about 6 seconds. but that was its peak because of a 10-1 chain gear ratio. Great video. Shoot, I’d buy one. Perfect for a guy like me that wants a high reving engine right out of the box with a little power over stock without having to swap any parts. Just bolt it up and go have fun.
So go with a tillotson 212r or a ducar 212. Both of those are around $220-240, both are around 5300-5500 governed rpm out of the box, and the ducar even has a pvl flywheel rated for 17000 rpm
@Roach4two0 Nah fr. I'm literally on the highway with it. I took off the jackshaft and increases the clutch teeth and I'm doing like 70mph or 80mph. Then again it's like $300 so idk
First impression, I you want an engine for a "one design" class With more power than the box stock 212, it looks like a good deal. But, if you want to have free license to massage a 212 , with no class limits, the stock 212 looks like the better choice . Then you could start with the 24 mm carb, billet flywheel, aftermarket valve springs and no governor. Plus you would add any other bits.you want. I’d like to see the weight on that flywheel. Everyone just looks at an aluminum flywheel as a safety factor and forget that the lighter flywheel helps the engine spin up faster. Really makes a performance improvement on a minibike!

I said this a while back but I knew that Predator was trying to be in competition with the Tillotson 225 when they released the 224 knowing that Ducar is the one making the blocks seems kind of funny because Ducar Tillotson and these new Predator 2:24 and goes to 12 engine blocks are all made from Ducar. Do really like the stickers though... Great video and thanks for sharing.. I'll definitely be watching the build!
Idk about 8k or 9k rpms but ive revved a stock 30 series driver pulley up to 7,500 rpms several times. Also, the brace for the super pipe goes BEHIND the side plate, not in front of it
I love go power sports, BUT this is 1/3 the price and from you ripping smoke in your garage like that with this engine I would say it's well worth it. Go power sports needed some competition to lower their prices. That's my opinion anyway! Keep up the great content 👏 👌 👍 🙌 ✨️
That rev limiter is cool , I’m more concerned with me and RB being plus size a frame limiter would be more practical , if to much deflection it kills the engine and you walk back killing two birds one bone ? Lol 😂
If this works with little issues (mainly the cast iron flywheel not exploding). This could replace LO206. To get on track with a 206, a turn key engine costs 1,200$.
This would be a good motor for someone who doesn’t wanna get their hands dirty … and just bolt it up to whatever style kart they have. Everyone else will just go stock 212/224 and build from there. I grabbed a 224, removed “guvnah”, slipstream billet wheel, 24mm F/S, hot265er and 22lbers … runs damn good.
Man I bought the tilly 225 right when it came out and it is impressive. With the juggernaut pully on it. My lil dootle bug hauls the mail. I had it on my sfd industries drift trike with just a yard kart clutch. I was able to hit 64mph ! With the drift sleeves on it. I was scooting. Lol yes the 225 was 750 or 800 bucks but it's out of the box 18hp. I dont know if I would buy the ghost. For my application. I'm looking for a new drift trike engine right now.
@Jesse's Kart & mini bike the tillotson 212 is 10hp out of the box compared to the 6.5 hp from the predator 212. Plus the tillotson has the reinforced ducar block and 10k rpm rated flywheel stock. I picked up a new ghost to check it out but Tillotson is superior
I blew up my Briggs animal on my cart that was $800 so at $299 to play around seems like a deal. Currently have a stock 212 pred. on it and who doesn't like a little more bang.
honestly id love for them to offer 1 CC rating, but different performance options. like start with "base" model, then include a stage 1 (better carb, better exhaust), stage 2 (carb, exhaust, flywheel, cam springs, and rod.), stage 3 (all of stage 2+ cam upgrade, and taller valve cover, heavier springs, better (dished) piston, rings, and maybe even a pumper carb or a combo velocity-pumper style, and a custom exhaust header for higher flow rates, with intake and exhaust porting.
The Wildcat 223 is the king of stock small blocks. I bought one delivered I paid $220. The casting [block] is almost identical to the Tillotson race blocks. Also comes with a 7 bolt sidecover. Hands down the 58mm crank is a potential monster. EC carbs designed the engine that's where I will let my comment's rest.
I bought a Briggs WKA 5.0 HP back in late 90s from northern. To be honest the performance and top end of this motor as reasonably priced as the WKA world kart motor I bought then.
I mean, PVL flywheel, swap the coil to remove governor, add a little Nitro on a light drag frame, properly geared, it would be a pretty solid budget option IMO. I don't have 3k to build an all out drag bike but this don't seem bad at all.
Predator should add a seal tag to the block like briggs to encourage the karting community to build around this. break the seal if you want to do mods but it would be great for a spec series like how briggs handles lo206
I agree theoretically but the problem with this on this engine is the variability that comes with a cheap Chinese engine. People would buy 20 and race the fast one or they wouldn’t and most likely just lose. That sort of defeats the cost savings of a locked block crate motor. The Briggs are really close so you buy one and can win… and run it for several years with no blueprint and only touching up the valves once or twice a year.
@@hankburton2043 For those of us who know these engines, we need more information than what's printed on the box. They aren't going to print cam info on the box. Don't need to do a video. Kentucky Fried Fixes has an in depth video showing what a rip off this engine is. Just seen it after this one.

I picked up a used predator with broken pullstarter for 30$ so im gonna buy a rod valvspring flywheel and gaskets kit. Id like to find a walk through on reasembly with torque specs for all.
Imagine putting this on a Manco, Yerf, or a Murray for the purpose of offroading and trailing. I wonder what it would do to the factory jackshaft or a bolt on TC if anything?
i have a trailmaster 196 clone with a stage 1 kit and no governor. im looking to replace it and i was wondering if this engine is worth swapping it. i wonder if i should be messing with these small blocks or just bite the bullet and get a 420. id like to hit in the 50 mph range.
Much happier getting away from the small stuff with my 810. It puts out the same as my old engine did, but down at 2200rpms and then just climbs from there.
@@MrTheHillfolk i made up my mind and am gonna go with the 420. I'm just mad I have already bought a 30 series juggernaut and a super pipe header for my mb 200 lol

@@textme739 I’m not sure what you need.
@@textme739 hi. I’m your winner I think.

Hi. This is paul. I don’t know how this works. Help.
Yes I’d buy this for my MB200. Shameful RBG running the engine without an air filter!
I knew that you would have one first. I just waited for you to answer the questions.
Thanks!
@@RedBeardsGarage if you get a chance check out my 240cc small block parts engine. I enjoy your content greatly
Idk about 8k or 9k rpms but ive revved a stock 30 series driver pulley up to 7,500 rpms several times.
Also, the brace for the super pipe goes BEHIND the side plate, not in front of it
Why does it matter if I put the tab BEHIND or in front of the plate. Still does the same thing.
I can’t believe you didn’t put a air filter on! It sounds lean!
i know it is a small point, but you did not show the hook ups for the linkages, what got bypassed on putting it into the bike. great job..!
Lol 😂
I dropped a like after you did the “ spa da pa ta pa ta ba ba ba pa da bup bup pow”
What about the upgrade kit for it
If this works with little issues (mainly the cast iron flywheel not exploding).
Got mine, long way to go thou!
I think I like it a lot especially for a pit bike at the off-road park or around the yard to make ppl smile
Ok getting this! Wasn't sold on the 224 but this I like!👍🏾
This is a rip off for $300. The same carb and pipe on a 224 would make more power.
Love the content big dog!
I like the Tillotson for the beefed up case. Then build it for the moon.
Personally id buy both. one, to see if i could do better. two, for the ease of it.
That engine is sick it literally sounds like a dirtbike engine
Great first impression. Thanks for the video.
Thanks for watching!
Thanks for sharing!
@Jesse's Kart & mini bike lol your the only one who thinks the harbor freight block is a higher quality 🤣 😂
@Jesse's Kart & mini bike let us know how it goes for you
I blew up my Briggs animal on my cart that was $800 so at $299 to play around seems like a deal. Currently have a stock 212 pred. on it and who doesn't like a little more bang.
I’m curious out of all those motors you just named which would you recommend for a reliability and which would you recommend for most power
honestly id love for them to offer 1 CC rating, but different performance options.
like start with "base" model, then include a stage 1 (better carb, better exhaust), stage 2 (carb, exhaust, flywheel, cam springs, and rod.), stage 3 (all of stage 2+ cam upgrade, and taller valve cover, heavier springs, better (dished) piston, rings, and maybe even a pumper carb or a combo velocity-pumper style, and a custom exhaust header for higher flow rates, with intake and exhaust porting.
That top fill can become a good crank case vent.
That Rev limiter is so hilarious 😂🤣
You still have a show, I had no idea. I will try to catch you but what day do you show it.
Honestly this new 212 looks pretty sick it’ll defiantly be a big upgrade to my my tiny 66cc 2 stroke lol
Im thinking buying this for my Murray Go kart built. Im running 198cc stock right now, so Id imagine this would be HUGE bump in performance.
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 that form. Omg.
Thought I was having eye problems when I saw your shirt.
Mrs. RB said the same thing when she was filming. lol
Very insight full review love how in depth you go …. When is Donnie going to do a vid on his poor man’s sxs cheers guys
He didn't go in depth. He could have measured cam lift while the side cover was off but didn't.
@@Deucealive75 didn’t ask you but that’s all you wanted to know it might be on the box go and buy one and do your own vid
@@hankburton2043 For those of us who know these engines, we need more information than what's printed on the box. They aren't going to print cam info on the box.
Don't need to do a video. Kentucky Fried Fixes has an in depth video showing what a rip off this engine is. Just seen it after this one.
The top "oil fill" is to run the pulse pump off of they include a threaded barb that screws in there to run the pulse pump off of
I wonder how they got the epa to sign off on that. Guess it's exempt because it's specifically for racing.
They have a tag saying its not be used on any street application.
Technically it isn't a complete running engine...
Look into "crate engine"..
Chevrolet just introduced a 632ci that makes 1000hp.
I have a 228cc Tilly race engine from EC Carburetors still in the box for a year and a half waiting for the opportunity to put it on my frame and figure out which gas tank to get !!! The ghost engine doesn't have great specs ...and looks like it was slow for all the hype !!!
With that steel wool in the top port, it looks like the case vent.
I picked up a used predator with broken pullstarter for 30$ so im gonna buy a rod valvspring flywheel and gaskets kit. Id like to find a walk through on reasembly with torque specs for all.
Your shirt made me think i was high, now i wanna do drugs again🤣
Karting is the start of a lifetime of
Phun
I bought it before I even knew what a 224 was. But I've built it up with a hot 265 cam, arc rod, arc billet flywheel, 26 pound springs, and high rev coil pack. I'm pretty satisfied with it, but I'm sure that a 224cc would've been better.
Hey Redbeard, from what you can tell, would you pick this over a standard 212 for a race kart build? I have 212 stage 2 and wanted to know if it's worth putting all my parts on this motor
this would be optimal for a class specifically for this motor. If you are running an open or limited class i would get a regular 212
I can build the 212 to be faster than the two 12 ghosts
I would buy to start out !!! Then start to build up up with higher rpms !!!! & Hotter cam & more porting & valve work when available parts is there for it !!!!
I'd really like to know how you installed the throttle to the carburetor 🤔 I didn't see a removable slide like the mikuni carbs so I'm curious if it's just the black looking piece that won't slide out??
I was wondering the same thing
@@corbindixon1674 yes it is that piece! Just not so easy for my fat fingers to slide it out lol I think I used a my pinky and a small screwdriver to get it out👍🏻
I want it!!! And I want it now!!!
Kinda what my youngest son's best friend has on his go cart. And it's freaking fast top speed is like 53 miles a hour. And with me on it top speed is like 49 miles a hour. Lucky the gas and brake are on the steering wheel.
That screen at the top fill is to keep oil from splashing up when you install your fuel pump pulse vacuum
if i were racing karts again this could be an great option versus the Briggs especially price point wise .
Is it homologated? I don’t think I’d be allowed to run this competitively.
Would make a great motor for a completely separate practice rig though,
“Predator Racing” well now you Need a pic of Herbert and Quagmire from Family Guy on that bike! Giggity:)
Help!! In the Manuel it says you use 91 gas but my local gas station doesn't have 91 or is 93 and 91 the same?? Or i just use 87 like normal predators. Help me out!!!
Should try the CDI kit, they have really been doing some good work on them.
We're do you buy the CDI kit?
