Freaking awesome video! Can't wait to see you tweak it. I used a GPS superpipe and Mikuni VM22-133 on mine. This resulted in a major increase in performance.
@redbeards garage: Any chance you'd consider this as your first stage on the Ghost?

I wrench on these engines and I’m telling you with red beards garage videos and some simple tools you can build your engine very easy. The predator 212 is the simplest four stroke engine in the world to work on. To me they are as simple as doing a top end on a Yamaha blast two stroke and your not going broke doing it. Red beard has the best step by step video on building a 212 I have ever seen.

I couldn't resist getting a Ghost just to check it out. The Box Stock Project engine is definitely faster on a kart. I don't have a dyno, but I can feel the difference and the clock doesn't lie. I did put in a billet flywheel but have not changed the rod on the Ghost. The BSP engine has billet rod and flywheel. The biggest difference, like you mentioned in this video is the carburetor, given that the valves are set up similarly. I swapped them out but still the BSP was a stronger out of the corner and faster to rev. It was an interesting experiment but if I could only buy one, I would go with the BSP and build it with the billet parts. I think you get a slightly better engine, and you know what's in it. They are likely made by the same factory, along with Tilitson and several other brands, so it boils down to how you build and set it up more than the quality. You can do a lot with any of these if you do the homework when you build them. Usually, I race in LO206 anyway and those engines are great, well built long lasting strong pulling and you don't have to do much to them to be competitive in the class. Do some valve maintenance [springs, maybe lightly hone the valve seat] change your oil every couple of hours of runtime (Amsoil Briggs Oil is best in my opinion) and you can get what you need to race and have a ball. I think the L in LO206 stands for LAZY... that's me.

Mr red beard I have to share this 20 years ago when the Honda design was just catching on there were no billet rods we took Honda rods and double the tourqe from 9 ftlbs to 18 with stock bolts flattop piston and gapless rings with compression ring machine to accept an oil ring in a groove on top ring it had a 308 cam stock rockers with straps welded to the sides to keep them from breaking cut the head 100 thousands it would hold 340 pound of compression with stock Honda flywheel I turned it 8500 very often not saying that was right but never exploded a flywheel tilitson carb it was a beast for back then and had to set our own flywheel key ignition timing was 40 degrees it would only run eight mile or it would overheat

I sold the gocart because I had no money, my friend bought the card because they had a motor for it, of course they were cheap like me and could not afford a clutch for it so they put a straight gear, so if you push start it it would go. One day they took it to a local shopping center parking lot and they were push starting it, it took off and when it stopped itn had moved a mailbox with concrete on the legs, moved 10 feet. Get tools to measure, and learn to use them by measuring what you've got. You got a 3/4 inch crankshaft? You gotta know to buy a clutch or torque converter. If you just bought parts without checking clearances, you'd be risking all you spent. Most of these engines can share parts. I know I swapped the 196 's in my colemans for 212s because of parts availability. 196 had a funky crankshaft iirc. Even a Harbor freight set of calipers is better than nothing. I'd be looking closely at the crank on the duromax, too. It might be one with an odd sized crank.

    • @Deucealive75
      @Deucealive75 Год назад

@@patarmstrong3582 Yes but unlike the Predator 212's the Hisun 196 uses ALL clone parts. You can get a clone crankshaft anywhere for $30 or so. Let's see you find a Predator specific crankshaft. If you do find one expect to pay more than $50 for it.
And once you get Predator 212 specific parts like a rod or flywheel you are stuck with them. My clone (196) flywheel fit perfect on my 224. And I could have used the ARC rod from my 196 for the 224. Can't do that with a Predator 212.

Carb was set up pretty well straight out of the box (for a Kei-Hin copy.)
    What size is it?
Could stand a little tuning but impressive as is (I like the old oval bore Kei-Hin better than Mikuni's, better atomisation over wider operating range)
The display of your buildup motor showed it getting slightly lean for best power at high rpm? (close to 14:1?)
Short steel manifold should keep carb cooler than an alloy one but no idea what it does to 'tuned length' of intake?

On the cast flywheel, could the magnet mount be modified and tap it to fit a 8mm cap head bolt?
I cannot see a cast flywheel cracking like a V8 flywheel pushed to 8 grand with huge clutch shock loads?
    Has anyone tested these flywheels?

Is that 6000 RPM coil available anywhere? I’ve been looking for a coil that can limit RPMs and will work with a gx style flywheel. I built an Electric Start / Charging Hemi Predator 212 with a Kohler flywheel. I was looking for a way to limit RPMs (besides Tire size and gearing)

The ghost was richer then all the others. Lean is mean. Can see the correlation of afr to hp. The hp will lag a lil in comparison to afr as afr changes then right after you’ll see in the hp. Idk neat to see although hard to see.

same power just higher in the range, a cam swap is the major difference between an engine designed to run a small water pump and one designed to be in a kart. might not look allot faster on paper but there is most likely a massive difference in performance in a properly geared and clutched application

for the same $$$$$, esp after including the $150 for the header accessory package ($450 total + taxes) ... a person can have a PRETTY HOT 212 PREDATOR and a gas tank. CM .265 cam $65, side cover gasket $5, cast alum flywheel $76, billet rod $76, $25 for 22mm PV carb and air filter. .009" head gasket. 22# springs, spiffy the motor up. oil, gas... and jet kit for the carby since it comes with 99 jet when it needs a 125'ish jet to make it RUN and not fall down at 5500 rpms.

There's no need for a fan. The engine has its own fan and it not going to get very hot from a dyno run.
