      The word gubbe actually means a small lump (in certain dialects it is still used with its original meaning, even though most misuse the term as slang when referring to ppl, but such terms cannot be misused when referring to ppl, and should only be used for lumps and strawberries etc) and the small lumps sort of look like the dots or spots on the strawberries from a distance or maybe they are considered lumps of the strawberries or the strawberries themselves might have been considered small lumps because they kinda look like a small red lump, so that’s why strawberries were called jordgubbar!

    I find Swedish so fascinating because I can see links to German and old English/Scots. ‘Öl’ is ‘oil’ in German, though, which is confusing.
    ‘Strawberries’ in German are ‘Erdbeeren’ or ‘earth-berries’.

    Hi, Erik. I 've started learning Swedish not long time ago, and I want to ask you a few questions about it.First, what is the difference between words talar and prata.Second, it is about are doing and do, Is that the same word to both of them?And the last one, what films would you recommend to watch on Swedish.Thank you for whats you are doing.

    • @legaleagle46
      @legaleagle46 7 лет назад +1

      I don't think there is any real difference between "att tala" and "att prata,' but I could be wrong. Erik?
      Also, Swedish uses the simple present for both "am/are/is doing" and "do/does." Both would be translated as "gör."
      I hope this helps answer your questions. :)

    • @eeboy3
      @eeboy3  7 лет назад +1

      I myself never use tala, it sounds antique. I say "jag pratar svenska" eller "jag kan svenska". We don't exactly have the English rule for speak/talk.
      Lee who answered you is correct about do/doing.
      I like a classic Swedish comedy movie, "Jönssonligan". My French friend likes a series called "Äkta människor" (real humans).
      You're welcome!

    • @legaleagle46
      @legaleagle46 7 лет назад

      Hej då, Erik! Ska du göra flera svenska video?

    • @Peter_1986
      @Peter_1986 7 лет назад +2

      I would say that "tala" is more formal than "prata".
      "Tala" sounds like someone making a speech in front of an audience, whereas "prata" is more like a general chat.

    • @Peter_1986
      @Peter_1986 7 лет назад

      Also, if you want to say "tell me what has happened", then the Swedish phrase for that is "tala om för mig vad som har hänt".
      You can NOT say "prata om för mig vad som har hänt", that sounds weird, and probably grammatically incorrect as well.
      There are some very subtle differences like that.

  • @SolmazGh-w4f

    In swedish , Most of the letters that are written in the words are not pronounced in conversation, but you pronounce them. Isn't it better that you also teach the same colloquial language? we need to learn the language of street conversation. thank you dear 🎉🎉❤❤

    I've read the color blue as both, Bla and blatt. (Sorry for the misspelling.) But I think you know what I mean. But what are the differences. In words like that it becomes difficult to make sense of the usage.

    • @eeboy3
      @eeboy3  9 лет назад

      +Beenason92 Hopefully I will soon make a video about that. It is not very complicated. For example, in this video I say the color green, grön, but i say green grass, grönt gräs. I have added a t, and that´s the case with blå and blått.
      In Lesson 4 I have explained that you put either "en" in front of nouns or "ett". If en is used you say blå. En blå boll. if ett is used, ett blått hus. Ett gräs, ett grönt gräs.

  • @Peter_1986
    @Peter_1986 7 лет назад

    It might be worth pointing out that "Hur är läget?" literally means "How is the situation?".
    Also, the phrases "Vad heter du?" and "Jag heter Erik" are equivalent to the German "Wie heißt du?" and "Ich heiße Erik" --- except that "Vad?" is actually the English word "What?".

  • @broytingaravsol
    @broytingaravsol 7 лет назад

    for the exampled sentence jump into "the" water, in swedish, was that expressed as the suffix -et?

    • @oliviadodge8365
      @oliviadodge8365 7 лет назад +1

      Yes, "the" is added to the end of the word. So for example, "Hunden" is the dog, "Hundarna" is the dogs

    • @Peter_1986
      @Peter_1986 7 лет назад

      The reason why it looks like "vattnet" instead of the expected "vattenet" is probably because "vattnet" is easier to say.
      There are other words that do that as well, like for example "a window" means "ett fönster", so you might expect "the window" to become "fönsteret", but it's actually "fönstret".
      Basically, if a Swedish word is very awkward to say in the definite form, then it has probably been simplified a bit like that.

    • @EyelessEntity
      @EyelessEntity 6 лет назад

      The "e" has been excluded over time. However, some southern dialects keep the 'e' in definite form, so long as there is no plural e.g. "nyckelen" (the key), and "fönsteret" (the window).
      Northern dialects aren't as conservative and may simplify words even further, for example "båt'n" (the boat), "hund'n" (the dog), or "katt'n" (the cat).
      A rule of thumb is that the amount of syllables increase further south and decrease further north. Above the arctic circle there seldom more than 2 syllables per word. :)

      I have a summer house close to the Norwegian border in central Sweden, and that's a very beautiful place - it's far away from civilisation and it's basically a forest with other small summer houses here and there, and maybe 100 feet down a light slope there is a lake, and lots of forests next to it.
      It's impossible to feel stressed out there, it's incredibly peaceful and it feels completely safe.
      I don't think I have ever heard of any trouble there at all, except possibly some fights at various parties that are sometimes arranged there, but other than that it's amazing how peaceful it is.
      Basically, imagine that you lived in Hobbiton in the "Lord Of The Rings" books, and you stepped outside in the early morning, and there were trees everywhere.
      That's more or less what it feels like.
