Your idea of just speaking SLOWLY is SO HELPFUL. It really has made a huge difference in learning. I don't know why more language teachers don't do this also.
I am a language teacher and you suggest a lot of what I tell my students of all ages (I've taught my own kids German from birth, middle and high school kids, and adults; and I am learning several languages). One tip for people in the US (and possibly elsewhere) - Disney+ has a huge amount of foreign language content, more than any other streaming services we've looked at, especially if you're looking for a language other than Spanish. Also, shows geared for little kids are a great way to boost vocab without getting bogged down by complicated sentences. Funny note: Harry Potter was the book I used to take myself from reading and translating every phrase to just reading and understanding in a second language. I was doing an internship in Germany and literally went from having to have my host family translate movies during commercials and translating stories and conversation phrase by phrase to dreaming in German and just understanding the language in the span of two days (this happened about 6 weeks in to my experience there; one Wednesday I was incredibly frustrated and exhausted with my limited language but Friday we went to the theater and something just clicked). And I definitely support the tip to just try it. I'd love to join the small groups but Patreon isn't in my budget quite yet. But speaking a language helps so much!
Det bästa som man kan göra är att ha vänner som bor i Sverige faktiskt. Jag pratar med mina vänner bara på svenska och det här får mig att lära språket väldigt snabbt, fast jag pratar och skriver med misstag då och då. Det är en jättekul upplevelse och jag hoppas att nån gång kommer jag förstå svenska perfekt när ni pratar för snabbt. Hälsningar från Prag.

Tack Katrin, I'm from Brazil and I'm starting to learn Swedish, a beautiful language, country, culture and people, its definitely a country that I will be travelling to when I have the basics of the language. I will be subscribing and getting more tips to help my journey of learning a new language. If someone is starting to learn Portuguese I will be more happy to help in any way. Tack.
Thanks for your Slow Swedish channel. I spent a couple years learning Swedish with Rosetta Stone software basically because I loved Swedish movies. I don't know any Swedish people or have any relatives from Sweden. Anyway I found it hard to learn Swedish when there were no classes offered locally. This was 10 or 15 years ago. I have a lot of Swedish shows and movies on DVD. I live in Southern California USA. But I just fell in love with Sweden and all the Scandinavian countries but I picked Sweden to learn the language. I am retired now and it's been over 10 years since I was trying to learn Swedish, but I enjoy your channel very much and you have rekindled my desire to learn Swedish. Thanks again.
I highly recommend learning Swedish 2gether with Norse / Icelandic / Dutch / Norwegian / Gothic / Welsh - these languages are real fun to learn and way to pretty not to know, as pretty as English, so I am learning them all and all other Norse / Germanic / Nordic languages and the other five modern Celtic languages, and I always watch every single video with subs in my target languages!
Having fun is key! I had tried learning Spanish for years because it's what I thought I "should" do as an American who grew up in the Southwest, and who is half Mexican. But it didn't interest me personally so I never succeeded. I've been in a relationship with an Icelandic man for 3 years now and that language is so insane and there aren't many resources to learn it, so I picked Swedish to learn as a "bridge" to make Icelandic easier. It's been so fun and I've stuck with it every day for 6 months now! I watch Swedish shows on Netflix (my favorite is Kärlek & Anarki) and I found your RUclips! I find Swedish recipes (and branch out to other Scandinavian things like smörrebröd). Makes it easy to want to learn. 😊
I highly recommend learning Swedish 2gether with Norse / Icelandic / Dutch / Norwegian / Gothic / Welsh - these languages are real fun to learn and way too pretty not to know, as pretty as English, so I am learning them all 2gether and all other Norse / Germanic / Nordic languages and the other five modern Celtic languages, and I always watch every single video with subs in my target languages, and Icelandic can be learnt from vocab videos (Go Learn) + Skáld lyrics + G translate + Icelandic subtitles, so I highly recommend watching every video and movie with Icelandic subs and in other target languages to learn new advanced words more passively because Icelandic vocab videos don’t cover all the words, and for Norse I highly recommend learning from Skáld songs + Norse to English dictionaries and English to Norse dictionaries from the Net + random yt vocab videos + wkp for the declensions of most verbs and nouns etc as most of them are on wkp, and I highly recommend using the vegan versions of smörrebröd etc! (But ‘réłationships aren’t meant for ppl, and there should be a distance between all ppl at all times and no śÿnńing, and words like man etc only reflect the pure protectors, and the word dude / dudes should be used instead!)
I know that Icelandic and Norse may seem very intimidating at first sight, but they are actually two of the top 10 easiest languages to learn, as easy as Norwegian / Dutch etc, with English being the absolute easiest ever in every way, plus most words are cognates in all Nordic languages and more than half of them are also cognates with the English / Dutch / German etc word, and once one knows the base word automatically, the different forms are easy to remember, especially if one also knows the different endings associated with each group of nouns / verbs / adjectives, as they all follow the same patterns and each group of nouns / verbs / adjectives etc have the same exact endings - I am upper intermediate level in Icelandic and Norse after only learning them for a few months more intensively, and I know over 5.000 words in Icelandic, so I am very close to an advanced level in Icelandic, and I have already learnt like eighty or ninety percent of the Icelandic words from the vocab videos with hundreds and thousands of words (Go Learn) that are on yt and all the Skáld lyrics, which was a great start, so now I can follow sentences easily and I can learn new words naturally from subtitles + G translate, as I tend to use G translate a lot as well, especially for Icelandic, as the Icelandic pronunciation is also very accurate on G translate, at least for 99% of the words, and it is way more accurate than the Danish pronunciation which needs major improvement on G translate because it doesn’t sound clear enough, so G translate is really great for learning Icelandic and for Dutch and Norwegian as well as they have very accurate and realistic pronunciations and so many words!
It's great what you're doing with this channel. Listening to you I can understand almost everything, but when watching SVT play for example I understand
I can understand a lot of these words, like, over 70% or so, even though I don’t know as many words in Swedish as I know in Norwegian and German, but many of the words are similar to the German word or to the Norwegian word, so I can understand a lot in Swedish, in general, especially when I see the sub, plus I am advanced level in Dutch, and some words are similar to the Dutch word - I am like intermediate level in Swedish / Italian / French at the moment, and upper intermediate level in Norwegian / German / Portuguese and native speaker level in Spanish and upper beginner level in Old Norse / Icelandic / Welsh and beginner level in most of the other Germanic / Celtic / Latin languages and in Hungarian / Slovene etc!
Tack så mycket! I lived in Sverige 15 years ago and am trying to re-learn the language. So helpful hearing you speak slowly and amazed at how much I could pick up. Still a long way to go though 😊
Nice work, Katrin! Although I haven't implemented it myself yet, a tip that I heard that I thought would be very helpful is to use a label machine to make and apply labels to everything in your environment with the words in your target language. Although it won't help with sentence structure, it should certainly help with vocabulary.
Jag använder chatGPT och det är så jättekul! Jag ber chatGPT att skriva en liten text för nybörjare (a1-a2) öm ämnet jag studerar just nu på Duolingo.
