A good tamal is a fresh tamal. The longer they sit the tougher they get. I’ve had several batches of tamales from lilianas that were dry as fuq so I stopped going there. Found myself a local tamal amigo so I’m supporting him instead and he has not let me down. This ones for you Ignacio!
I went a couple of weeks ago! I bought 1doz red, 1/2 doz chicken, 1/2 sweet and pozole, it came out to $67 was not worth it!! To much maza and not enough meat.
LA MODERNA BAKERY IS THE BEST!!.... Asside from the ones that we and our family members make ofcourse (meaning the people reading this comment)... most the time... But hands down when i get one, well out and about, No One beats La Moderna Bakery!!! So far...And I looove tamales!, But not all tamales are created equal, and some ruin the first time experience for others. They are not dry, with the right amount of maza, lard, and fillings. Usually never have a problem with the tamales, I may have gotten one tamale after all these year, that wasn't up to par, and they happily replaced it. And aside from tamales they are a full Mexican bakery, so baked goods, breads, carnitas, champurado, pozole and menudo( bring your own olla/pot) and other stuff as well. They have been around my whole life, so with being 32 now, and after all my "tamale travels". La Moderna bakery still stands out, and always has me coming back.
Imagine if your average white American burger joint tried to do business, they'd be shut down by health inspectors. At least someone is allowed to keep their restaurant open. For now until these crazy inspectors jackboots find out about it.
