  • I ride a 2019 Indian scout bobber and installed a 6” Barnett clutch cable I ordered from Dean Speed. I highly recommend the Barnett clutch cable. I personally think it should be one of your top 5 modifications to your Indian scout bobber!

FYI - To anyone about to do this upgrade: I just did the stainless steel version on my 21 Scout ABS. In regards to the two nuts on the engine side of the cable. One nut threads all the down and goes on the underside of the "stop". The other nut leave unthreaded until you get the cable end mounted to the bike Then, thread the second nut down.
I first mounted with both nuts on the top side, but I kept needing to tighten and tighten and it seemed I was running out of adjustment. The one nut on top/one under fixed it.
Before I re did it, I turned the adjuster all the way back to the right, basically starting the adjustment point over. I found I didn't have to turn it left nearly as much. Hope this helps clarify that little detail.

Barnett and Russell both make the best cables and they make custom sizes too.

Nicely done video. I also replaced stock cable with a Barnett cable, and totally agree with you on easier clutch pull. Oddly, my clutch now seems to start engaging sooner than before. Free play on lever is dead on, so I cannot explain why engagement distance would change. If you are concerned about not having rubber boot on cable adjuster, you can try what I did. Pick up some black self sealing tape, cut off about 6" and tightly wrap around barrel adjuster. If done correctly, it will seal out dirt and water. Also (not trying to be critical) on clutch actuating arm, it looks as though both nuts ended on top of cable bracket. Correct is one on each side of that bracket. (Ask me how I know) Always enjoy your videos.

Thanks for the tip! And thank you for noticing the bolts. We were unsure on how they went so I started going through different RUclips videos and noticed other people had both nuts on top(I didn’t think it made sense) I’ll be fixing that now. Thanks for watching

@mikeh4686 I thought both bolts were to be on top as well. How do you know and how can this effect the pull or tightness?

And it wont break like the stock cable! My stock cable broke twice in 10k miles. The Barnett is built much better,it has a metal guide where it hooks up the the clutch actuator on the motor.

Good girl, you covered up the tank for this one. What would be nice to see is a weight gage reading of the pull it takes to disengage the clutch with factory vs the barnett. Not sure if anyone ever done that,

Great video, new cable on the way. Did the Barnett cable change the biting point of the clutch?

DO NOT grease the actual cable between the barrel and the sheath. From Indian clutch video. Only the barrels gets grease.

The barnett cable is thicker and has better mechanical properties and lubrication. It also has a 90 deg bend elbow whereas the stock bends the cable. It's wayy better next would be barnnet clutch in time.

if that doesn't work, your slow down your throttle hand......its a small but powerful bike.
