My word this year is moderation. I have let some things in my life get out of hand over the last few months - my eating habits have been atrocious, I've been indulging in way too much screen time, and I've been spending too much money on "wants". It's time to rein myself in! So, moderation.

* Sinking Funds are set and budgeted

3 words to start: Declutter, organize, clean.
This will be my 4th no-spend YEAR! It saves so much money! My whole perspective and desires have changed. I no longer want any extra stuff. It's not enticing to me. I don't want it. Life is more simple, clear and calm without it.

My word for 2023 was contentment and radically changed my mindset. My words for 2024 are 'follow through,' as I tend to start things but not finish them.

My word for 2024 is REMISSION. Christmas night 2023 marks one year of survival of stage 4 lung cancer. In 2024 as I start a new medication, my goal is to reach remission. Perhaps in 12 weeks. Good luck everyone, challenge is good and achievement is divine.

This is my second no spend January. One thing that tripped me up was a family gathering that is our family winter holiday. Cousins can get together. Out of town company eating out, activities, etc. so this year I saved $350 for this weekend. So I won’t be spending on meals ,etc. I probably won’t spend it all so I will put it in savings. Maybe not completely 100% compliant, but it’s a time my family enjoys and I don’t want to miss out. I feel like this is a good compromise.

My word for 2024 is LESS. Less stuff, less spending, less worry, less stress.
I was thinking the same for me. Maybe I’ll use 2 words. LESS & MORE. LESS spending, less TV, less mindless scrolling of social media, less food-need to lose weight anyway, less stuff in general-et rid of everything that no longer serves me. MORE working my business to get more clients, more time spent on the mundane parts of my business to get it done so whole business is more efficient, more time with family, more meal planning and batch freezing or cooking. Wow I have a lot to work on!!!
My word for the year is simplicity. By that I mean find ways to simplify my life. Also to declutter, and to use up everything we already have. We are drowning in stuff....time for it to go..... 1 month for every room in our home to deep clean and declutter.

My word is ACTIVATE! I often think about doing things someday. I am at the point in my life where it’s NOW. If I don’t develop my income, savings, intentionality NOW, I will be making my retirement infinitely harder. So, it’s Go Time.

My word of the year is Thankful. I'm thankful because all my needs are met therefore, I can move forward to using my money in a more frugal and efficient way. Bring on the no-spend January (and February)!

My word is cut-back. See what I did there. I added a hyphen to make 1 word😂. I plan to look at areas I can cut-back. Like in my linen closet, junk drawer, pantry size, time on my phone, food intake, projects that don't make me happy, on amounts of bills due. I already changed my internet, saving us $40. a month.... these are all areas I have previously cut-back but it is time to tweek again. I know I can get that linen clost down 50%! And any Christmas decor, what was not set up this year will be gone!
$40/month translates into $480/ year!
My word of the year is.....ACCUMULATE!

My word for 2024 is Restoration. I need to restore my health, my home and my finances. Starting off 2024 with all little credit cards paid off. Upped my automatic savings and will be eating healthy from my pantry and freezers. Saving for a new roof and AC. Finishing all the home projects that I've already bought the supplies for and working on healthy living.

My word is simplify. Using up what we have and taking on less so I can breathe easier and enjoy things we like to do.
My word for the year is Finish. I have a million & 5 projects going on & want to focus on finishing those projects up rather than shifting my focus to new ones like I’ve done in years’ past. So this year is to FINISH those projects that need to be finished & getting them completely crossed off my list of things to be working on & FINALLY getting DONE!!!! There is already 1 dinner out that is planned (hubby’s birthday) as that’s our thing for family 13+ (youngest is 9, he’s got a few years for birthday parties still lol). Our oldest son’s birthday dinner is tonight (he’s usually like me in that he can eat pb&j’s or whatever & eat/be super frugal when needed or trying to attain a goal but!!! Tonight he’s being bougie lol 😂I can’t believe he’s 27!!! Makes me feel old 😂 I’ve been saving up for this one… a Gordon Ramsey restaurant. See? BOUGIE!!! 😂) so after tonight, we’re batting down the hatches & working to save our $$$ to 1 ~ get out of the spending habit (ESPECIALLY out to eat! 😬🤦♀️) & 2 ~ save up for the crazy expenses that are coming down the pike in the form of… the other half of the house tax payment AND House insurance (due in March, looking for a better rate though) & 2023’s house insurance (we pay all at once) was $8K… if the trend stays true to form as of the last couple of years, it’s probably going to be about $10k-12k. That’s COMPLETELY STUPID!!! Thankfully, house is paid off. SO THANKFUL for that!!!!

I'm hoping/ expecting our watchwords of "every bit counts" to complete some tasks which will never have to be done ever again (or close to it), complete some projects begun, and a few things along these lines finished as well. Additionally, we need to whittle away at some phases.
Love you video’s Kate. My theme word is “FROG” as in eat the Frog. This year I need to tackle the hard stuff first planning and creating a budget. Tracking daily and being mindful of our expenses. I am retired and I have been an ostrich and now is time to get in the game of understanding the household finances. I also have lots of things I have been putting off. So my goal is to eat the frog and do the difficult tasks first and get them off my check list.

Last year my main goals were to improve my financial situation and my health. Though I did get my financial situation turned around, my health has declined. I have a two year old granddaughter that I love being with🥰 My word this year will be Prioritize, as I need to improve my health in order to keep up with my grandchild! As part of my January challenge is be not eating out alone, that will work with my finances as well as my health😃

My word this year is grattitude
My word for the year for me is "slow", in slow down life, enjoy more and say no more. And I am at Part 2 on the audiobook, gonna listen to the whole book first and then listen to the book again. My one thing is a cleaner more organized house, that is the Achilles heel of our home that can make or break our life schedule and money savings. My husband had a great idea, after No spend January, do Frugal February and Minimalist March, Allocated April, Mindful May, Judicious June, Joyful July, Affordable August, Save September, Objective October, No November, Decent December...lol 😆

I've decided my word will be Peace. Things have been quite challenging for the past few months and I want to explore things that will bring me Peace in the coming year. My no spend for January is no yarn :-). Instead, I am knitting down my yarn stash. From your no spend list, books would be the only no spend temptation. Your recap for 2023 sounded great! I don't pick a word of the year. For the 12 week year, I realized I don't do much goal planning! I have come up with an idea - thoroughly research buying a 'new to me car' - I have been procrastinating car shopping cause I don't know what I want! My car is 21 years old and while she still runs well - its time to replace it. By March 31st I want to be confident to go buy that car!

My word is eliminate. Eliminate clutter, extra weight I've been carrying around for years, and eliminate the wasteful spending habits. All geared up for the rest of the month. So far I've lost weight a pound, donated some items to a charity shop I no longer need, and haven't spent anything other than the utilities and health insurance.
My word is Move. Move forward not backwards, move up not down, move people out of my life thats not on board with my goals, move out of the way from toxicity and negativity.

I have been thinking really hard about what my word of the year should be and have decided to settle on ... Me! I need to plan and simplify my life but in to be a good parent, achieve my financial goals, declutter and simplify my home and get better at time management, and be prepared at what ever life throws at me this year i need to breathe and look after me, mentally and physically first !! I ordered the book. My word is Focus before I heard your last years word. I did not think much about reviewing budget daily (during coffee in the morning) but it really helps the focus. My word is mindful! Last year I got in the habit of online shopping more often than I care to admit.. so in 2024, I want to scrutinize each and every time I spend money and ask myself "are you really really sure you want to spend your money on this?" I work hard for my money to just throw it around willy nilly!! 😊

My word is integrity. I need to keep my promise to myself. Stop breaking my word. If I say I'm going to do something for myself I need to do it. I am going to write down my promises n keep track of if I keep m or not. Ugh already. I'm good about keeping promises with everyone but myself.

My word is reduce. Clutter,belongings,wasteful spending,wasting time and lower my weight.😊
I love the word elevate. Mine is uncluttered. An uncluttered home. I want to use all of my spaces. An uncluttered friends and family list. I am limiting contact with negative attitudes and dramatic people. Uncluttered social media. I am limiting my watch lists. Uncluttered mind. Clearing my mind for my goals.
I've found that we need to pay ourselves first, to prevent spending extra money. Make a budget, and whatever is extra, put immediately into savings before paying anything else. If you do this, you trick your brain into thinking that money isn't available, and you will stick to your budget. Waiting til the end of the month to save whatever is leftover rarely works. Even if some is left, I always have spent a lot of what should have been saved.

I'm well up for no spend 2024! Budget provisionally in place, with permission to flex if 'life happens' and needs arise. January will be 'shop my pantry and freezer' time, just buying fresh fruit and essentials that run out. I am also aiming to finish a load of half done projects, which will give me the satisfaction of extra ticks against the list of aims.
My word for the year is 'Home'. This is because I have, for the past 21 years, regarded this house as a temporary stop in life, but am now thinking of staying and really making it my own, making it quirky to suit me and changing things around.
