  • The Garmin Instinct Solar is a great watch, with one fatal flaw, after a couple of years it starts to crash constantly and there doesn't appear to be a fix for it.

Hi there Kev. Had the same problem with my Instinct Solar as well as my son's Instinct Solar. The problem is with the vibration motor overheating. If you turn off all the vibrating functions in the watch, the problem goes away. Still sucks though.

Wow, thanks for getting in touch! That would make sense in terms of when it happens for me, the points when it vibrates to mark the mile or start of a track. I'll have to give that a go with mine.
      Really appreciate the comment.

Great vid and love your honest words on a product
I'm looking at purchasing the Instinct 2X Solar but now I'm unsure

Just Google that model and see if anyone has had any issues with it. I was looking at the 2x Solar until I picked up a Fenix 6 Pro Solar in the sales.

@@TheWalkingKev That's a good idea and I'll be researching it. I'll be waiting for it to be in the sales if I do get one. Although, I've not heard any problems with the Fenix 6 Pro Solar. I hope it does you well on your amazing adventures

    Very good review Kev.
How totally frustrating when it lost all your data.
I use an Apple Watch which has been fine, but have thought of the Garmin 👍

Got the instinct solar tactical, very similar to yours. Only problem I've had so far is the strap , I kept getting a skin reaction to the Silicon. Garmin did try to fob me off at first, but eventually I got a leather replacement strap free. These leather straps on the Garmin website are about £130, I can tell you from my experience they are not worth buying. It has started to split apart. The watch itself has been flawless.

I get the same rash. I swap wrists every day and still get it every now and then. £130 for a leather strap is obscene!

How do you find the battery life on the old one? Good to hear you can still use older devices. I want to keep my Fenix 6 for a very long time!

Exact same issue here for over a year. Very frustrating. Turned off vibration and the Instinct Solar is back to normal for the past 6 months but without vibrate.

    • @TheWalkingKev
      @TheWalkingKev  2 месяца назад +1

Ah, that's interesting as it vibrates as standard when clocking a mile and starting tracks etc. I'll have to give it a try.

Sorry you had an issue with it. I've had my Instinct solar two years this month. Although I wear quite a few other watches, I find myself going back to the Instinct. Still one of my favorite watches. I really hate the fact that these "smart" watches seem to have an expiration date on them. That's why I tend to wear "normal" watches. These companies need to up their games. I hope mine lasts, but if it doesn't, I'm still a Garmin fan so I will look to the Instinct 2x solar.

I loved the watch and I love the Garmin eco system. Shame mine had this issue. I'm hoping my Fenix 6 lasts better...

Most of the comments I see online about this problem, and there’s a lot of them, are about 2+ year-old Instincts. Is it possible Garmin fix the problem on more recent Instinct 2 models? I’m interested in this watch for all the reasons you enjoyed it initially, but definitely don’t have the money to invest if it will only last two years. Really enjoy your channel. Thanks.

Thanks for the kind words, appreciate it.
My brother has the Standard original Instinct and hasn't had any issues with it yet, and he bought it later than me so it might just be earlier models.

Meaning, it might only be the solar models that have the problem? That’s one of the reasons I’m interested in it. Thanks for the quick reply and happy hiking.

@@stepheno3422 oh yeah, apologies. I can't remember from reading online if all the complaints were about just the Solar variant.
I had an amazing snow camp on the weekend, that was a great little walk as well. Been blessed lately with a couple of great walks.
