Overview:
The Roland VT-4 is an amazing tool to help turn your voice into an instrument. Messing around with the effects, pitch, and formant can truly "transform" your voice in many exciting ways.
Pros: Portable, small footprint (about the size of two cell phones), hands on (no menus to scroll through), battery or usb powered, phantom power (for condenser mics), high quality audio interface (no need to have a separate interface or sound card), the effects are studio quality (love the reverb and harmony), multiple ways to route the signal for recording, controllable by midi (either through usb or external keyboard).
Cons: Nothing as of yet
I got mine from Sweetwater:
www.sweetwater.com/store/deta... Видеоклипы
I just got one last week. I love the effects it produces but every time I try to record a vocal track with it, it also picks up all my beat and drum patterns with my audio and I cant get a clean vocal take for the life of me. idk if I'm doing something wrong I've read the manual and got the driver installed right someone please help me! much appreciated. I'm just about to send it back if I cant get it fixed any advice will be very much appreciated!
In your DAW you should have 6 input options to record from. Mix (1-2) is the one you're most likely using. Change it to WET (3-4) for the effects to be recorded or DRY (5-6) for dry vocals only. Hope this helps!
@@PhillyWatts yes I've switched thru all of them but then once I I record my vocals it has the effects. And sounds good. But if I mute all the other tracks and only play the audio I recorded it plays back all the drums and beat pattern with my vocals and I cant figure how to just get my vocals by them self on a recording without getting the extra audio in the recording too. If that makes sense.
@@shadygrizzly sounds like you may be recording the MIX channel. When recording the mix channel it records everything. I would set your input to 3 or 4 for WET vocals only.
@@PhillyWatts Thanks! It worked sounds great now!!! And I just subbed to your channel!
@@shadygrizzly so glad you didn't return it yet! Enjoy man and thanks for the sub!
The best thing about this video is that there was no ads
This with the mpc standalone line is gonna yield me some amazing results without having to be tied into a computer. Thanks for this priceless review.
Him: (started singing on the harmony part with auto pitch)
Me: SOLD
Same. Ordering now lol
Had it for a few days... 110% worth it have been having alot of fun with it
Good demo. I like how all the functions are easily accessible, and no display menus to get buried in. Less is more.
You just convinced me to buy this. Thank you for the super helpful demonstration!!!
Gonna use this for when I do my spartan 3 cosplay so people can hear me talk and for a transformer cosplay as soundwave
This is literally alllll I’ve been looking for. Great video man.
Thank you so much!! I love the VT-4
This is the last piece I need to make my portable cylon suit. Sweet!
Thank you very much! Really needed to know if I needed another audio interface, seems you’re the only one that covered that haha
My pleasure! Thanks for watching, it's a great interface.
🗣fantastic. Love it! I can use it for DJ drops. The next level Dj.m.smooth
Great review dude. To the point without the bs!
Your simple show has got my attention to this high tech. Thanks to you, dear, & right here watching da ROMA con AMOR! See you around bec I' lol buy one , & I'll have questions update later with you....
Great review video. Super helpful, thank you!
this thing is under rated
Can I conect to a mixer to give effects to all my mic's?
Your a legend dude!! You review convinced me to buy one.
Thanks bro, I appreciate you watching! Let me know how it works for you.
Philly Watts will do bro!! I thinking of getting the Roland or the GoXlr mini
Can you save pitch, formant, and balance presets? And if so, can you trigger them via midi? Any latency issues? Thanks!
might need to add this to my studio thanks for sharing!
Thank you so much for the support! The VT-4 has been a game changer for me. Much respect and love!
1:13 made my night thank you Philly!
: )
Awesome video
Ok yes I need this
Pitbull doing a demo vid?? Who knew???
Apart from megaphone, I think most of these FX can be achieved on the korg kp3 correct?
hey, great review - just curious. how does the midi i/o work? say i have a 25 key controller with drum pads that i have connected to my computer, and want to implement the vt-4 presumably in between the controller and the computer. would the drum pad portion of the controller no longer be usable in the DAW and only the keys would be useful for the harmonizer function in the vt-4? or would i still be able to use the drum pads regardless of the vt-4 being in between?
great vid, thanks mate
Thanks for the review!
My pleasure! Thanks for watching. Still using it daily for music and gaming. Never had any issues, knock on wood!
Finally i can turn my voice into an instrument............. ´0´
Awwesome review! Thanks!!!
You're welcome!
Epic Thang. Very Nice Video and Preview also Great Regards
Thank you for watching!
I feel bad that im going to use the amazing musical tool... for gaming and GTA RP XD
: ) I hope you enjoy it! How do you plan to hook it up? Are you using CPU or console?
Philly Watts would it be possible to hook this up and use on ps4 without owning a pc at all?
@@PhillyWatts CPU
I actually use the VT-3 on PS4 for the purpose of vocal entertainment from time to time.. It looks as if the VT-4 is an upgraded version...
And to the one asking about how to hook them up them up on console.. It would require a 5 channel mixer at least.. The mixer goes to the PS4, and the VT device goes to the mixer, your mic goes to the VT as well, so ensure you have a XLR mic, not a USB... Im not sure if the VT-4 is USB compatible.. Im not even sure if my settup method would work with the VT-4.. So far it looks like it should
@@misterkillhappy Thanks for the info!
How do you turn bypass on or off while playing guitar or other instrument?
Very good system
Can it be activated with a foot switch to kick on an octave up?
I got this today and it’s awesome
Enjoy it! I'm still loving mine
It’s great with a SM7B and a fethead going in, poor thing can’t drive the mic otherwise. Paired that with an RC505 for some live looping fun
Thanks for the video. I just bought a Roland VT-4, and I love it. But your video really showed me what this thing can do, much better than the owners manual. You make it sound so easy, I'm just now getting ready to really check it out. Your video really opened my eyes as to the versitility of the unit. I am currently recording my debut album by myself at home. As I play 7 instruments, write, arrange, compose, produce and perform all of the music myself, singing,as much as I love it,is not my forte..... until now. This machine will make me sound like a true pro, without the giveaway sound one gets from Auto Tune itself. Thanks again..... Reverend Cecil B DeMeNTed...ps...no interest in offending you, but you are one hell of a hot guy as well. ROCK ON!
can you use usb on this
Hey so with this you play live and do the weeknd style music if you wanted
is this transformer be able to use with a voice amp? i am doing a robot cosplay and i have a amp but there is almost no info on voice amps with portable sound cards for convention cosplay
could i pair this with a goxlr mini? if so that would create streaming audio setup of my dreams
Thanks for this vid
My pleasure man!
I wanna play as a Sphinx in my brother's D&D game, might buy one of these to beef up my RP, lol
can I do this through my portable studio
Thanks for answer. But I need live kareok both Male and female duets vocal at live program so I m not understand
how convincing is the pitch change on this thing?
Can I hook this to my ps4 and use it with an xlr mic
Can you combine 2 effects with the VT-4 or are you limited to one at a time? For example having a voice doubler with some added reverb is often very desirable.
Yes, you can! Thanks for watching!
Will i be able to use this with my mic for xbox?
Currently use a helicon voicelive touch 2 for this type of work but I do miss those physical sliders for easy adjustments Im giving this one some serious consideration.
It's crazy simple to use and that's why I love it! Thanks for checking out the video.
I’m in a. Metal band I wonder if I’m this can help me sing on some deftones type vibe I really can’t sing lol
Could this be used to transform your voice to another voice without it being able to be decoded in a sense sorry I know that idk the right vocabulary
Hello does anyone know if this is compatible with the DJI pocket ?
Can you somehow run samples through it?
Wait, so this would replace my Steinberg controller that broke? And it only costs like $50 more and I get all these cool voice effects? I was about to order another stienberg but now I need this.
Awesome video
what did you think of it?
Roland VT-3 had Radio Voice funktion do Roland VT-4 have that to?
thank you
u r a boss reviewer
My pleasure! Thanks for watching!
Anyone know why my WET signal going into the PC is so low? It's barely audible, but the mic volume is at 100 in Windows. The DRY signal is pretty loud, but the WET is so low. Help!
Hey Kylix, in the user manual there are some instructions on how to increase the volume. Check it out here: www.roland.com/global/products/vt-4/support/
You can do this all in pretty much any D.A.W if you know how to work the D.A.W but I however sometimes do not have the patience to figure out a computer screen with a mouse to get the sounds i am looking for so I am more of a hardware type of guy so I just ordered the VT-4 and im excited to add it to my home studio and see what I can do with it and price is a bonus for me .
I use it whenever I need it, all these years later! So, I recommend it as an audio interface, in general, for sure.
Which is better auto tune plugin or auto tune from the interface
Does it have a compressor?
Tech support told me I could go from my receiver phone jack into the VT4 and out to my amp with mic inputs. Doesn't work. Sound is totally distorted
Is this good for "Travis Scott Style" autotune? I can't get it for this video
Will this work with my RC505 looper sorry kind of new to this stuff
can I use the Roland TV4 with a music app (StarMaker,) that only works by use of Android or Apple cell phones ? Please and thank you for your reviews 💥⚡🎶💯.
Hey!
Great video, I would like to have a question. I have a GXT 252+ Emita Plus microphone but its only have a USB cabel, is there any solution to use a jack to usb adapter without make the sound worst or is there any other solution?
Thanks for any help.
Unfortunately no, you must have a microphone that connects through XLR cable or balanced 1/4 inch cable.
Does this work for PS4?
isnt this the one SOSO use on the GBB2019 Loopstation Battle?
I'm a DJ can l use this to mc my parties? Because my voice is horrible
Can I use this on Xbox or ps4?
Can someone help me? I have the device plugged into logic, and it is recording, but the recordings are just SO quiet I can barely hear them. I messed with both the device and input volume. Anyone else run into this issue? Please help!!!
Hi there mate does this vocal proccessor with higher guitar tuning like F Standard or F Sharp
How do I connect to the keyboard and mac
Can this act as a line in?
curious to know how well a ribbon mic would be with this...anyone?
I can use it for my guitar effects 🎶🎸🎶
is there any software that can do this
For some reason it lest me use my mic on it but doesn't let me use the effects do you know why?
Turn up the balance all the way. It's a balance between the amount of effects and the amount of the dry sound.
How can I buy one I need it
Do you know how to connect it to fl studios
So how much Phantom Voltage does it provide? I am about to buy an audio technica AT2020 microphone that’s requires 48 phantom volts, so would I be able to use this with it??? I wanna change my voice for streaming lol
It will work perfectly with your AT2020 or any condenser microphone that needs phantom power. Good luck!
can i use this for Songs recording sir
Does your audio interface need a midi In/out in order do get it to work with ableton ?
No, not at all. Most interfaces can send midi through USB.
The midi in out is used to physically connect other gear, such as a keyboard or a hardware synth
Do you know something less expansive for gamers to use on PS4 or Xbox. Please 🙏
Good for home karaoke?
What mic stand is that
Can I hook this up to a ps4
How do you use this for xbox
I am really. knew at this stuff. Do you have to use a midi controller or can you just plug the mic in like you do with other vocal effects pedals such as the BOSS VE-20. Thank you!
You don't need to use midi at all. Plug in and it works great.
Is the "mic sensitivity" knob just a gain or is there a difference?
Great question! I'd say that yes, it is a gain, but I notice that, even when peaking a bit on the VT-4, it barely clips inside of my DAW. Maybe there is a limiter inside there or something? I found a nice sweet spot that works well with my condenser mic and marked it with a cheap sticky jewel that I bought from Walmart for less than $1 a pack. Thanks for watching!
@@PhillyWatts That's what gain does on most preamps. If you overdrive them, they color the sound.
Sold
It's really nice box but I get one question how can connect 2 mic whith empli
I don't think you can connect 2 mics. It has 2 inputs, one combo jack and 1 1/8 inch jack, but I think they share the same preamp.
Can anyone help me? I've just bought this for recording vocals with, cubase is the daw software I use, ive managed to connect it and it sounds great and im recording along with my track and for some reason after a take when I solo the vocal (just recorded) you can hear the track in the background so its somehow recording the song along with my vocal and I record with headphones so I dont know how this is happening and im not sure how to stop it
Usually this occurs when the monitor signal (background music you’re hearing) leaks out of the headphones into your vocal mic. You could try headphones with better isolation like ‘closed back’ phones. I don’t have a VT-4 to test it but I doubt the audio track is leaking in the device itself.🤔
I'm a complete moron when it comes to music devices.....can this hook up to a PA system? Like Mic to device to PA which has two speakers hooked up to it? Or do I directly hook my speakers to this thing. Sorry if this is a stupid question and thank you for demoing this device.
Hi
Thanks for the great vid!
Would this be suitable for live karaoke? I’m thinking especially about the autotune function and if it’s easy to make it sound like a natural voice.
Yes, but you'll have to use it in a subtle way and you'll have to know the key of each song being sung.
The key wheel on the VT4 shows all major keys. In order to achieve minor keys, just go to the same major key and turn it 3 clicks to the right for the minor key. For example, for C minor go to C and turn the wheel 3 clicks to the right. Good luck my friend!
Super!
Thanks for your response! 🌟🏆
I’m buying this wtf!!!!!
I am getting a huge Hiss. I’ve tried a dynamic mic and condenser. No change. Terrible hissing sound.
I have the VT-3, seems to have more options.
Can you use this as an interface to record vocals in presonus studio one?
Yes
I wanted to ask , I wanted to have really good performances with a good vocal execution going toward it with my music too, I was wondering if there is a way I can get have a wireless mic connected toward the interfaces? And I was also thinking of getting the BOSS RC- 505 also for looping and live performances too, I just want to give the audience the field of my music and make them feel like they’re in the setting you know? What do you suggest? Is there such mic I can use wirelessly that’s connect to those interfaces or would I have to use an extension for the mic?
Yes, there are plenty of wireless microphones that connect via 1/4 inch or xlr (which the VT-4 has both in a combo jack). A very cheap, but good one that I tried once before was from Fifine.
@@PhillyWatts Ok Thank you That what I needed to hear I appreciate the advice much love 🙏🏿
@@PhillyWatts what microphones would you suggest if u doing mind me asking
but can it be used at the end of a current mic chain and bypass the build in preamp?
It does have 1/4 inch outs as well as a combo jack input. Not sure how you would bypass its preamp though.
Philly Watts same way as say an focusrite scarlet 2i2. If you there connect an 1/4 jack it bypasses the mic preamp,
I guess the VT4 does the same thing since it has a combo jack but can't find any info on it.
Can you make a video detailing how to connect this up? Just how you have your mic, monitors, etc?
Many of these audio reviews discuss nothing about how its connected with mic or mics, PC/Mac and more importantly a mixer in this case. And that has been frustrating to someone like me who is new to this.
Also, can it be effectively used for livestreaming (and how would you connect it up)? Or is it just straight DAW record and mix on a laptop?
Can it record in software like FL studio and pro tools
youngguidance flores absolutely! It’s become my go to audio interface for recording vocals as well as for mixing on headphones. It has a super quiet noise floor, low latency, and great quality audio.
