Thank you to Zzounds for sending the VT-4 over for me to try out for a while, use this link to get one yourself (I make a percentage of the purchase) www.zzounds.com/a--3981117/item--ROLVT4
Anyone want to generate a late 60s/70s style vintage echoed vocal style (Think Jim Morrison/ the Jefferson airplane) on the VT4.... Here's one way to go about it 01) Enable Megaphone (megaphone preset 1) 02) enable reverb (reverb preset 2 - the vintage spring delay slapback style) 03) autone/hard tune at 0 Now, from here you have to mix and match between the levels of balance and reverb.....i generally keep reverb level high but toggle between the balance level based on what suits you. Things you can additionally add as an option 04) With harmony mode (harmony preset 1- it's perfect fifths. 05) Reduce the pitch by 1 octave The ending result will be quite cool and vintage....but not crystal clear processed sound but something you'd love to perform live or just send an out on to a recorder and record some stuff.
If you're thinking this direction, high recommend for the Roland E4 Voice Tweaker.... IT's less robustly built than the VT-4, but the built-in looper and Scatter are just exactly what i've wanted in one box.... i've had to get other boxes to handle those functions for my vocal chains, and the E4 has everything under one roof! 😍🤙🌌
Missing the point of the design. You can fire in the harmonics and chords via MIDI... This is a simple voice-box designed to run with a DAW channel or sequencer to give MIDI and auto-correct to the planned live vocal. It's made in Japan. It's a funky karaoke device, with added smart ring-mod robot styler reactive mods. It does sound authentically funky fresh like it was 1983 in Harlem on a beatbox with Bambaataa the Child Snatcher. It also works as a nice DAW interface for output/live input via USB. There are patchy USB software editors for this device that allow you to bust out the TB-3 depth Aira hidden protocols too. If you see one cheap, snatch it or weep. Future classic right here. The E-3 is tiny plugs and loosy goosey. This is the proper hardware if you like that Daft Punk robot boogie vocal. And you can run it on AA batteries too. In your headphones. At night. Around the world.
The manual says it has low cut filter and enhancer and a noise gate you have to hold down certain buttons to change those settings for example hold down megaphone button and hit 1-4 buttons to adjust enhancer
It has a low cut filter. So that might be enough. PS, the manual is a nice source for this kind of info, since Roland has packed this thing with additional functions (typical Roland style) 😆
@@DylanParisMusic Yeah, get it. With Roland you easily overlook something (even after reading the manual) since they bury a lot under button combos.....
You know overthinking makes you thinking deeply about every potential bottlenecks and this is the way to have a global vision of what you do and make things that lasts! Ty for the video :)
Do you still use this, dude? Got the e4, really enjoy it but not being able to use multi effects made it a no go for me. The vt4 is coming tomorrow, hopefully it’ll be a keeper. Using it with the field.
Oh rad dude!! I sent this back to zZounds a while back but I might get something like it later! Think of using an MPC for vocal fx but might be overkill
@@DylanParisMusic For sure! Getting it for the op-1 field. I love using the mpc for vocal effects inside the op-1, but wanted something small to throw in my bag.
@@DylanParisMusic Been doing comparisons with using the mpc and the roland separately. The roland seems to sit more in the mix better on the op-1 but I think with some tweaks and eq’ing I can make the mpc work. It is fun not messing with a screen on the Roland though.
@@DylanParisMusic It can, but it’s the most versatile piece of gear I’ve ever owned. Haven’t even thought twice about selling the plus. Are you still loving the key37?
I wrote a comment on this video and it got deleted for some reason but not by me... To sum up my original comment: I own this. I wish you could select major or minor key but there's no option for it which can be a problem. I like a subtle auto tune so I keep the dial around 60 - 80%. There's a lot of hidden commands too by holding certain buttons and pressing others...YT vids out there which show how. Overall it's not bad but the one on MPC has a bit more flexibility.
MusicSky88: Just trying to help. You just use the relative major if you need minor. Three clicks to the right on the key dial. Example: If you're in A minor... use the setting three clicks to the right. C major. Same notes. All the harmonies should be in key. Song in E minor? Use G major :-)
@@phil7229 Yes I know that. I lost my manual when I got it last year and just found it again recently. It works pretty good for the price. I like the vocal stuff in my MPC Live 2 as well. ✌️
Is there a chromatic scale or notes played option for the pitch correction? I have this and the TC Helicon VE. The Roland VT-4's control accessiblity is good because it's simpler and has little menu diving. What I don't like about it though is there is no dedicated PSU. The USB option can get noisy and I don't trust batteries during a live set. Haha. It seems there is no chromatic scale option for the pitch correction too, which sucks because it's hard to keep on changing or searching for it per song. You're right that the EQ of the VT-4 is limiting. It sounds flat and compressed. Check out the TC Helicon VE. The headroom and clarity are better. The menu options just needs some getting used to but I'm happy with the overall sound compared to the VT-4.
Hoping somebody can answer this. Just got the VT-4 and I love it. However, it seems that it goes through batteries pretty quickly. Is anyone else having that issue? Also, I know it can be USB powered, I just want to make sure I can go from a power strip to the unit and it doesn't have to be from a source like a laptop. Any help is much appreciated.
If this is a genuine question the genuine answer is if I make a song that uses a high amount of pitch correction at a fast response rate for a robotic sound, I want the option to recreate that in realtime rather than sing over a recording
I have used every model of MIDI harmonizer since 1991. I use them in my studio to create SATB for choir. I can write the notes in the tracks and audition each part myself. I can modify any part and sing any parts, or all it in real time by myself. It is gratifying for live performance, too. MY students use it to learn their parts. Also I don't even have to actually sing. The system samples your voice and sings with your own recognizable voice. Not like Auto Tune. It does not scoop into the note. no phantom power is rough tho
@@Brandon-v7j My VT-4 has a switch on the side for phantom power.
I would have get one if it wasn't for no midi
@@ripsniff9742the E4 does have MIDI In and Out, but it’s through TRS. I don’t know if it comes with adapters or not.
For more notes or chord to be recognized you have to use a midi cable and it will improve the harmonization. Stop using the key knob.
for ur first problem use a DI box to send the dry vocal to foh and also have a second line of effected vocals, no cuts ever :)
Good tip!
To decrease or eliminate proximity effect (voice getting deeper as you get closer to the mic), use an omnidirectional mic instead of cardioid.

How do you have the vt4 hooked up
Hi! Did you have the chance to compare this device to the EHX V256 or the AIRA E4? If yes, what is your opinion on their vocoder? Thanks!
Can this unit be used with an arranger keyboard with the left hand controlling the harmonies? Thank you for your consideration. Enjoyed your video.

Hello! Great video thanks, do you know if it has different kinds or reverbs and delays? or just one and you just can adjust dry wet?
Thank you! It has the following options:
[1] REVERB
[2] ECHO
[3] TEMPO DELAY
[4] DUB ECHO
I believe these are chosen via shift options
Can you run reverb and delay simultaneously?
