He'd probably still have won the fight if he just maintained distance and kept picking Robbie apart instead of playing Lawler's game. Most fighters would have been done after that first serious exchange that left Robbie reeling. Firas said this best, he told Rory to be patient, and take him apart. Honestly I’ve watched this fight a lot. I feel McDonald was winning on the score cards until his nose gave out and was finished. But it’s just such an epic fight and I can’t tell who truly won
He would have won the stand-up if he stayed technical, he had Robbie on the ropes and kept hurting him, whilst Robbie wasn't really able to respond to this. It's only when Rory committed to the pocket fight that Robbie really started landing shots on his already injured nose, and eventually he just broke down because there really aren't many fighters who can go the distance toe to toe with Lawler like that. The man's fighting style is equivalent to a terminator, he just walks you down, eats your shot's, and tries to force you into a pocket brawl where he can use his power and durability to overwhelm you. Rory was the better fighter, he's more well rounded and far more technical, but his lack of experience really showed here. He got impatient, he played Robbie's game, and Robbie eventually just broke him. Firas kept telling Robbie the exact strategy he needed to win, stay on the outside, work those jabs in with kicks, and pounce when Robbie is injured. Rory stopped listening after the first serious exchange where anyone but Robbie would have been done, and after that he just really started letting instinct take over instead of keeping a level head and utilizing his strengths.
@@thebutcher1412 He was definitely winning on points, Robbie is just really hard to put down but Lawler took an INSANE beating after he got stunned by that head kick. Rory was landing more significant shots, he had more control over the distance and pace of the fight, and he wasn't really eating any significant shots aside from one or two early on (which unfortunately broke his nose) until he decided to take the fight toe to toe with Robbie in the pocket. He really only lost because his nose gave out, he was winning in every way before that, and his nose wouldn't have given out if he played it safer and just kept Robbie back with this lethal kicks setup from jabs. He also could have subbed Robbie if he hurt him or Robbie tired out after this. It's really not a good idea to go to war with Robbie, the man doesn't go down, he's ruthless in attacking any vulnerability, and he's got power in his hands while excelling in pocket fighting (a bit like a slightly more technical Ngannou). If you listen to Firas in the corner, he's constantly telling Rory to maintain distance and take Robbie apart, he just got tired and impatient, and tried too hard to KO Lawler instead of just dismantling him. I think it was really an experience difference here, Rory was the better fighter, but Robbie is a veteran and he just kept taking his fight to Rory until the latter broke down.

He was definitely winning on points, Robbie is just really hard to put down but Lawler took an INSANE beating after he got stunned by that head kick.
This is a Fight that CALLS ur Soul to The Fighting World! 💪🏼🤙🏼🇺🇸
One of the best fights ever. Two absolute dogs.
UFC made 70,000.00 to 100,000,000 million off of this card. They only paid fighters a combined total of 2,260,000 million (I see why Rory Macdonald left the UFC after getting his face smashed for nothing).

Esse canal merece meu respeito. Luta completa sem cortes.
This is the greatest fight I have ever seen to this day. When I think of the UFC, I think of this fight.
Honestly this is one of the best performances you'll ever witness inside of the UFC Octagon.
Lawler and MacDonald put forth incredible fucking effort and toughness in what can be considered the best fight ever on the UFC circuit
#Legendary
That stare down at the end of the round is iconic...both men get more badass looking the more blood they have on there face
Quite possibly the best fight I’ve ever seen in the octagon. Nothing but respect for these two men!
hands down, one of the absolute greatest fights ever, easily top 5 if not top 3. it was just so fucking good and that staredown after round 4. literally felt goosebumps forming
I agree I thought robby would keep kicking his ass then rory well you saw his bad ass fuk robby up but robby was a different breed back then he couldn't lose . Mad respect for both .
That stare down will always be amazing 🔥🔥
Does anyone else find it stupid that we are watching people punch each other in the face with blood but bad words are bleeped?
probably one of my favorite fights ever
Good stuff. Warrior spirit from both all the way. Such a shame for Rory to end like that, but, when you're done, you're done.
Love Rory’s boxing style
Doesn’t telegraph a thing and every punch is thrown so clean and perfectly straight with a fast snap
Beautiful skills
"there's a lot of blood" they said at the exact same time. What a fight
Dana should have given both these guys a $1 million bonus after this fight. But.. He didn't
that stare after the 4th round, just goosebump!!
3:55 the fucking crowd with the calm ass “AiEh !!” 😹
McDonald’s nose wasn’t just broken, the bones were reduced to dust.
Who else is riding with me father's day 2022 for this masterpiece??!
No fighter changed his/her alias more than Rory MacDonald. From waterboy, to aries, to redking.
The fight that made people reconsider their choice to become MMA fighters lol
Imaginen el dolor que sintió Rory para decir que hasta ahí llegaba, que no podia mas
Porque no fue un golpe de KO, fue un dolor inimaginable que le hizo decir hasta aqui llego
This is one of my top 3 favorite fights of all time! How do you not love Robbie Lawler (& Rory) after this performance?….
About as masterful as a right handed southpaw as you can get. Robbie always stayed on the outside and made sure to keep distance until he moves in to strike, most that try to be right handed southpaws are always so easily there for the straight right from the ortho.
Greatest title of alltime thanks for the reupload!
Easily in my top 5 fights if all time!
Both fighters are favourites of mine ! Two amazing athletes right here!🎉
They both went IN!!
Greatest fight in ufc history. This fight going to ufc hall of fame
