Cody trained to be the Anti-Cruz. Not that he was a bad fighter after this fight, but I feel that he put so much into negating Cruz’s style that it became difficult to break from that. Like a method actor who learns to speak a new accent, he can’t break it after filming the movie is over
He was literally beating the latest title challenger pushing the age of 40 and only lost bc he started gassing in the champ rounds. And this is after multiple extended layoffs and what is usually career ending injuries...
Different levels of competition back then, most were boxers with some wrestling or jiu-jitsu. All it takes now is someone who can kick, or knee and not chase to beat Cruz so he changed his style for the new generation of fighters now, no idea if he's going to fight again soon but I really hope he wins.

I had a friend also from Ohio who was 15-1 as a pro boxer and the 1 cost him the IBF title, he took one amatuer mma fight with a local bjj guy, lost and quit. He couldn't stay away from drugs or trouble as much as we all tried to help, lost his wife and 3 kids, they wanted nothing to do with him, he OD'd about 3 months ago, he's gone. That's how close Cody was to being nothing, remember that when watching this performance.

Garbrandt only got credited with two knockdowns the whole fight. Rogan was overreacting on everything. With Cruz’s style it is easy for him to lose balance either by stepping on his opponent’s foot, a head clash, or getting hit with a shot that just changes his momentum.

This was just such a perfect night, the win for cody, and even Doms humility after the loss. It really shows Doms goat status how he still managed to win two rounds and it shows just how perfect cody was this night considering the wins dom picked up after this fight.
If you have great cardio and speed, this one way to weaponize it. It worked for a long time. Sadly, for guys who depend on speed and endurance, those fade quickly with age.

Because he is so quick. has KO power, and now learned to be evasive, I thought Garbrandt would be champ for a looooong time. Nope. Didn't happen. But for all his losses, he is still a threat, and certainly still entertaining.
Garbrandt was trained specifically to beat dom, that’s why this is by far the best performance he’s ever had. If you haven’t looked into it it’s pretty interesting.
