    From my 20 year machining career which includes blue prints obviously, if I were to make a print of a chain you could take 3 points to measure the chain. For ease sake we'll do a line on the bottom of the chain, the top, and through the middle. The middle line is the length and from the middle up is a width and middle down is the other half of the width. So then take same length chains and different MMs. You'll see that the middle line stays the same for length, but the thicker or thinner the chain will adjust the look of how it sits. But it won't shorten or lengthen the look only one way. It'll do half the mm on top and half in bottom. So two 20" chains one at 5mm and one at 10mm. Lain on top of each other you'll see the middle line representing the 20" length is the same, but you'll have 2.5mm added to top look length and 2.5mm added to bottom look length. Making it appear both shorter to the neck and also longer down the chest.

    Hey I’m 5,1 and I agree with you joe the bigger the mm the shorter looking the chain. Like to me a 2 mm chain at 19 inches looks like 20 inches and a 13 mm chain at 20 inches looks like a 18 inch. But still even if you have a 13 mm and you put it inside the shirt I think you should size up to 21 inches for comfort but that’s just my opinion.

    I've gone odd lengths for this reason on thicker chains. My wife's silver 12mm miami cuban link choker I had made at 17 inch rather than 16 inch to get the correct look. Shout out to MARV it came out prefect. For the same reason I ordered my new miami cuban at 25 inch even though the look I like is normally 24 inch. I should have it by the beginning of June. I am also hoping that 25 inch will also allow me to get it over my head easily.

    Back in black! My longest chain is a 24 inch 5mm Miami Cuban. If I take my glasses off, I can put it on without unlatching it. It has a tendency to get in the way while I work out. Even when it’s tucked, it can get tangled up with other chains especially on the bench press. I like the length regardless although it has problems laying down flat. It almost tries to twist at the very bottom of the loop. I think a wider width would lay down flat at that length. I’m 5’11 178 pounds.

    • @garybrownlee7319
      @garybrownlee7319 2 года назад +2

      @@pancakesociety743 When I shorten mine to around 22 inches, it seems to help it lay down flat. Or when I wear it lower down on my neck to allow it to have more surface area to contact with. I think that a 24 inch Miami cuban is subject to the laws of gravity. I was disappointed at first bc it came from Daniel Jewelers inc and was hand made but I think that’s just the way it goes with longer chains. They almost want to roll downhill like a snowball.

    Me personally I prefer 22in @3-5mm width. But I also understand why some guys like choker style or even an 18-20 to keep it moderate. I just like a dot more length. My 2mm rope is a 26 and I wear my grandfathers ring on it. But 22 is my happy medium. I would’ve likely been very happy with a 20 as well which this video made me realize. Thank you

      So is length or girth more important??

    • @philippang07
      @philippang07 10 месяцев назад

      Bruh, may I know how tall you are.... I'm 6ft and I feel, with a 22" 12mm thick cuban chain, it would be "just nice".
      20" is most likely a sweet spot length for most men but I suspect taller men from 1.8m onwards can afford a slightly longer, thick chain
      to fill the chest space a little more and look better-balanced. I'm inclined to a 22" 12mm chain which I will swear hidden beneath my shirt.
      The chain show will just peep out from the t-shirt rim line and its girth for me will display a tinge of masculinity to an extent. I don't think
      a polo tee will suit a thicker -assed 10mm or 12mm chain, nor a long sleeve business shirt. It depends on the style of shirt won.
      I also like thin 1.5 to 2mm chains for a different look altogether. These I am thinking to wear both 20" and 24-26" inches in a different style.

    Hey man, been watching some of your videos over the past month or so. I appreciate the attention to detail and all the info you’re putting out there. I recently ordered an 18” and a 21” 10mm from DJI for my wife and I. I went to the mall and tried on different sizes and decided those would probably work perfectly for us and sit pretty tight but not a choker. I’m 5’7” about 190, so I initially was going to do an 18” but after realizing my 16.5” neck and traps would make a chain that length a choker. Patiently waiting for our chains to arrive in a couple months and considering doing a RUclips video for people who have a build like mine. Would you ever consider bringing some friends into your videos who are different weights and sizes?

    That's funny you said 21" I just ordered my 10mm at 21" which I feel is that sweet spot. I've had length from 28"-20 and 21 I feel is perfect👌

    I’m always on the fence about getting either a 22 inch or 24 inch chain… Regardless of millimeter, I’m almost 6’1” and about 200 pounds. In your opinion, between a 22 inch and a 24 inch chain, which would be the more ideal length. I wear chains anywhere from 4 mm up to 8.5 mm in width mainly Francos and Cubans. I know a lot of it comes down to personal taste, but I really would appreciate your insight.

      24 minimum

      @FromADistanceJewelry  Год назад +2

      Hey bro! Obviously the size millimeter you choose will have an impact visually when it comes to the length but personally I would probably go with the 24 in if you were going with a larger width and maybe a 22-in if you're going with a smaller width. Hope that makes sense!

      So is length or girth more important??

    • @neobooger
      @neobooger Год назад

      @@FromADistanceJewelry Thanks for the response. What would you consider a larger width? Let’s say anything over 5mm? I know it also depend on the style of chain. I find Francos tend to look shorter because of their design. What about a 5.5 mm Cuban link style chain? 22 or 24 inches? For someone like myself.

    The 10 mm looked 100% visibly shorter at 20 inch than the smaller one but not 2 full inches shorter. So, no it doesn't look like an 18. I think that it's also ridiculously thick for a chain. I don't understand the appeal of really fat chains.
    I think over 6 mm is probably too much.
    I think 22 inch is the perfect length for chains. If you want to wear it out of the shirt that is.
    I do agree with a 20 if you tuck it like you prefer.

      Honestly I would wait till you are the height you will be forever. You never know and you don't want to spend a bunch of money on something that won't work because you "probably" were going to be something, you know. But I am 6'3 and 188lbs and I rock a 22" 4.5mm cuban with a 24" 5mm rope and they sit about where his 20" sits on him. It's about neck thickness and torso length.

      I agree with fartylipjucie you should probably wait for your permanent size cuz you never know. And if you play baseball for the rest of your life maybe get something slightly smaller but again you never know if you don’t play for the rest of your life so you should a little bit.

      I was done growing at 15 but everybody’s different. Gotta agree with fartylipjuice here. either way I’d go with an 8mm 18inch; it’s a hell of a lot of weight even at 8mm depending on where you shop it should be around the 100g mark and would definitely get annoying any higher mm width for use when training etc. maybe you should try buying some gold plated or silver joints to get a feel for it and make your decision then

      I'm actually going to do a video in regards to this specifically for you as well as some of the other fantastic younger people who have reached out regarding the same things.
