Ok …first off I don’t often comment but take it as constructive criticism. Get a degree in electrical engineering or consult with a electrician bro. Even mild research would tell you all if this is wrong and unsafe, I might not be a electrician myself but I’ve been doing electrical work since I’ve been 7 so I have a lot of wise words when it comes to anything electrical.
I’m not mad but honestly disappointed, you put at least 4 cold solders on the battery and B.m.s let alone use no flux for the solder to bond properly. There is no space between the 18650 batteries so they will overheat during load especially since you have the wrong gauge wires/nickel strips. You tried but the spot welds weren’t even ether, that literally is the easiest part. The battery’s were all unbalanced but you still wrote down the MaH for them which makes no sense.
The power supply to the spot welder is way to much for the battery’s, I’m surprised they didn’t explode with that much heat transfer. I hope your not selling or using this battery because it would be a danger to others even you. A old cell that shorts in that battery pack can cause a fire in the whole thing and if you don’t know what lithium fire looks like… look it up it’s a big red fireball waiting to happen.
I could also say there is no room for heat expansion so no air to get in and out, so essentially it’s a bomb if it heats up. Please ether do research to fix it or just don’t use it, but it’s your life. With no disrespect education is very important especially when you mess with things people typically take years to learn and master. Again this is all constructive aka to help you hope, you have a good day.

@@bobravenscraft5376 sure if you are using it for small loads but in the event of a short, it can overheat. Most 18650s can output .5-2.5amps so during current draw the lithium chemistry does heat up, lithium battery like to run at the same temperature as humans. So essentially if you are only using it to charge a phone or light up a few led’s then passive cooling without space between cells is fine although not condoned. It is smart practice to separate the cells anyways because if they rub together it can damage them overtime or possibly short. Just constructive criticism again, I’m just trying to help or explain why or why not. Hope you have a good day

Those batteries are fire hazardous. Never use such with high currents without proper cooling, never get it to low charge.
Some of them have clever controller inside with lots of protections, while others need external controller.

Only good if ALL batteries have same capacity. Other an element can be fully discharged while the other are full. The bms can not fix this.

Andre - Because he very foolishly connected a large number of lithium ion cells together with a large capacity variance and no way to balance the cells.
Lithium ion cells do not handle being overcharged very well. They have a bad habit of venting and catching fire, and once they ignite they create their own oxygen and keep burning.
This battery is a fire waiting to happen.

Nice building...but you forgot the principal thing for such a building : all cells must have the same capacity, but FIRST OF ALL the same internal resistance or only with very little difference (you didn't control this point) .
If not ,your pack will be unbalanced very quickly by use, because cells with high IR will discharge much faster than the other ones. This little BMS can absolutely not maintain the balance in these conditions. Voltage will quickly fall down by use, because discharge amperage will be the big issue if you need some amps.
To be only used for very weak Amps applications : however the balance issue will appear, but not so quickly.
but there is no wireless to check battery status via Bluetooth with mobile phone!
I was impressed to see the cell testing and then amazed that they were just put into the pack anyway with the huge capacity differences. This isn't going to end well. Do not use indoors! LOL
It was really downhill once he snap-cut a wooden ruler in two. Who does that? Someone who also doesn't account for capacity differences, apparently.

You should add an active balancer because the packs are not the same capacity. As time goes by the voltage difference between packs will grow and you won't be able to discharge them at the same voltage.
Also, since these are recycled batteries, you don't know when will they fail. That is why the batteries should be individually fused on the positive side.
Be safe in building one of these. Be a good example to your viewers. Life and properties are at stake in this small project.

I don’t suggest anyone try this unless they have basic electric/chemistry knowledge, most lead acid batteries have Sulfuric Acid and I don’t think you want that on your skin or even worse in your eyes (it’ll blind you) and always remember to keep a Basic (either Sodium Bicarbonate or even better Sodium Hydroxide “Prob the best but still might cause skin irritation so careful”) Water Solution Nearby to neutralize the acid if it gets on your incase for some reason your not wearing gloves and so you don’t cause a Li-ion Meltdown Basic Electrical Knowledge will be needed with that project as well

To people who don't understand the needs of lithium ion batteries, I'm sure this looks like a great idea. In reality, though, he has tied together 21 unbalanced cells with thin conductors and no balancing circuitry. It is highly likely that this battery will one day catch fire because of gross, cumulative cell imbalance.
Lithium ion cells are not something to play with. I wouldn't use this battery at all. Someone is going to hook that up to a lead-based battery charger and be in for a big surprise when they can't put out the fire.

@FleeTheScene - There's nothing "marvelous" about doing something ill-advised. What would have been "marvelous" in this case would have been to show people how to do it *correctly*. Above and beyond that, what would've been "marvelous" was to realize that this little experiment was (a) foolishly conceived, (b) far more expensive than simply obtaining another lead-acid battery (or better yet, learning how to rejuvenate the old one), and (c) executed in a way that maximized the danger to anyone involved.
Effort and good intentions aren't the end-all be-all. Results matter, too.

This conversion will not work. This battery will no be correctly charged by device it will be connected to (device designed for sealed lead battery). Also without cell leveling if you charge it somehow it will start destroying weaker cell in rapid succession. Without proper overcurrent protection its fire hazard. Would not use anything like this anywhere near my house.
NOT to defend him but there is the mistaken belief that the BMS alone is sufficient for proper charging. It is a case of a little knowledge being a dangerous thing.

Смысл каков был в измерении остаточной емкости каждой банки, если в итоге их напихали в батарею без какого-либо подбора?! Где термоконтроль и термозащита?! Где защита от внутреннего короткого замыкания каждой из трёх секций?! Пайка проводов в этой поделке - это отдельная песТня!!!

Идея использования корпуса это единственная сдравая месль в этом ролике, даже если опустить подбор банок, защиту, отсутствие нормального балансира, использовать в устройствах для свинцовых АКБ всё равно не выйдет где напряжение заряда 13.2-14.5В, ну или 💣💥

That is NOT a normal lead acid type, it should be a AGM with a Polymer Matte, thats why you did not burn your unprotected Fingers 😉 and Just because the whole unit is dead, doesnot mean one or more cells have still energy stored...please dont be so sloppy. At least warn the average YT Viewer.

That lead acid was completely dry lol ! No wonder it was a bad cell..... should have added some electrolyte and would work just fine
How about draining all the acid before using the hacksaw? A good wash out with water and leave a week or so to dry. MOST dead SLAs (sealed lead ACID) batteries will still have acid in them.

@@OnlyDubai the wires on the inside of the battery as well as the current (A) rating is to small. A starter motor can take around 15A on a 125ccm engine. His wires are to small and will overheat or the battery management system will trip or go up in smoke. With new high current fast discharge batteries cells and a strong battery management system as well as thick output wires it would be fine.

This is a fine innovative way to start a house fire with few major explosions (and very difficult to extinguish). Lithium Ion batteries follow a totally different charge/recharge cycle and need balance charging/discharging mechanism. That is why we need a BMS (battery management system) module. DONT DO THIS.
Overview for the masses. NEW OR GOOD MATCH cells BMS. Many different cells. Hobby charger. Want the most power and dependability out of pack Run Naked no BMS only hobby charger. I'll even tell more vruzend kits. If you have cells from everywhere buy kit. Assemble No BMS. Hobby charger. For a. Week putt around. TEST CELLS. If OK weld together. Best system I've found. Also. Keep packs to minimum 3 4 up to 6 parallel. Minimum high quality cells welded together. NOT STRESSED. has never failed me

Would this still charge correctly in a utility vehicle replacing a lead acid battery ? The vehicle alternator when running gives out around 14v at a fair few amps, will this damage the bms or lithium cells ? Would I be better with a 4s pack instead or will that cause more problems...? Cheers.

This job have not finished.. because in my county Indonesia. This Accu is for motorcycle. For example Honda Vario 125 CC... You must to test this Accu to starter engine Honda motor cycle vario 125 cc. If this Accu can do starter engine. This Accu / battery is ok. But if this Accu can not do started engine. It is mean the Accu / battery is not ok
the system-volt range is not in a optimal range here to use it with a PB Charger. it would be dangerous to charge until 14.x Volt, if the BMS is not working properly.
He should have used a 4S 7P configuration. A 100% charged 12V battery is about 14.5V but the one he made is about 12.6V which is an almost empty 12V normal battery
@@4L3xN3t 3.6 x 3 is just 10.8V, which is below the 12.0V of a fully discharged lead acid battery. A 4s configuration would be better as a substitute, using lithium iron phosphate cells.

Is your solder iron a 'SIWD' bro?. (Soldering iron with disabilities). What did you do to it? That is not what nature intended. This is an example of what humans do to other things just because they are different.
Nice build. But the nickel strip you used is really only good for about 2 amps. It's still a 14Ah battery but it's limited to about 2 amps of current draw. Which is probably plenty for what "most people" would be using the battery for.

I wonder how many 12v batteries were exploded when people went out and shorted positive to ground with a thick wire as you have just shown in your video? I am aware you checked the voltage of the battery first but did you bother to make that clear? Most people are ignorant when it comes to things like this. I'd just hate to see people get hurt when a simple explanation could have been given instead of the annoying music... Just my opinion...

Hm a lead acid "case" with liion batteries inside....don´t know. if someone connects a lead acid battery charger on it with desulphation at the beginning (like every charger with a little bit of brain inside *g*) the liion could be destroied or catch fire,.....

Это просто получился ёмкий павербенк на 12 вольт и всё. Назад в ИБП его не поставишь, заряжать уже не свинец а литий нужно. Да и разномастные, не высокотоковые б/у банки по напряжению просядут при преобразовании 12В в 220В. В лучшем случае BMS сработает, в худшем - перегрев, вскипание, взрыв и пожар. Заряжать не проблема, врезать круглое гнездо 5,5 мм и купить на Али рублей за 350 готовую зарядку для лития. Если же делать полноценный аккумулятор для ИБП, то банки надо ставить высокотоковые, BMS на 100 ампер и модуль заряда для лития. Все это спокойно поместится в корпусе. Лайк только за то, что узнал что внутри аккумулятора и сколько банок влезает в корпус))) Тут сделана сборка 3s7p. Знающие, скажите, балансировка банок в параллели не происходит же?

Yes but nominally this is only a 10.4v battery(since one cell is nominally 3.7v) . If you intend on using it as a replacement for a lead acid where you charge to 14.4 volts the pack will probably explode even with the cheap bms on it.

This battery is more than likely going to explode some day. There is a lot of balancing circuitry you need to insure that the battery doesn't eventually blow up that is completely neglected here that you need in order to keep a cell from being overcharged.
