playing for kent was a real blessing for aravinda and sri lankan cricket. when he returned from kent, aravinda looked a much different batsman. he started to play with a straight bat and valued his wicket. earlier he was so reckless hence quiet suitably called 'mad max'. used to just throw away his wicket. it was he getting himself out rather than bowlers skills. after 1995 he realised what a good batsman he is and focused more on the game.
Imperious pull shot from Fulton off Wasim, top marks for bravery facing up to him without a helmet. A sublime knock from Aravinda also, as a Lancs fan I spent most of his knock biting my nails thinking he was going to snatch this one away from the Red Rose. This was such a great match to watch..memories, memories🌹
This was the turning point in Aravinda and sri lanka cricket,Aravinda was reckoned and others rallied around him and the final result was winning the world cup in 1996
Too bad the selectors removed him after 1999 and kept him for 3/4 years....then he cam back for the 2003 WC and retired after...ny looking at the way he smashed Brett Lee he couldve scored hella more in those 3/4 years gap adn couldve even become the 1st person to score 10,000 runs etc ..F'ing politics
@@xscorpio290 True man even in the 96 Final he's the highest run scorer and was the highest wicket taker Aussies were 130+ for 1 with a 100 partnerhsip b/w Ponting and Taylor then he came to the attack and grab both of the wickets turned more than Murali and Warny that day that ball to ponting and also got Healy later on then when SL were 20-2 came and scored a 100 what a guy turned the whole match wish atleast there was another batsman to score atleast a 50 then they'd have won just lost by 35 runs 🤦🏻♂️
De Silva scored his century from just 88 balls. Compared to Athertons rather more sedate rate. Amazing back then, rather more ho hum these days. He just needed someone to stick with him and score 40 or 50. Brilliant performance in a losing cause.
It appears that this is where Aravinda has perfected his pull shot. Ballers forget, sometimes, that they ball to Aravinda. We all know, Aravinda is short and compact. Balls to others chest, come at shoulder height to Aravinda. One step back, swivel around with whacking bat. As long as ball clears the rope, sweeping over heads, it does not matter where the fielder is placed.😀😀😀😀
I think I just saw me in the crowd! Was this 18 years ago? Seems like last summer, except that TV cricket coverage has improved so much. Fulton, B&H debut in the final, decides he's going to take on Wasim Akram in a sun hat, but Aravinda... Kent may not have won, but it was worth going just to see his innings. Did he ever not attack? I did put a few quid on Sri Lanka to win the 1996 World Cup after this game, so I still count it as a win :)
Usual problem for Kent in those days - their batting always seemed to fail in finals. Avarinda was of course a different class and showed how it should be done. Without his innings, Kent would have ended with an embarrassing score.
5:49...gets into position so early and literally waits for Akram’s short ball to reach him...casually paddles it around the corner. Has any batsman had this much time against fast bowlers?

very true. He displayed the quality of his batsmanship after 1995, and specially in the 1996 world cup.
A magnificent and stylish batsman. Pure class. There wasn't a better batsman than Aravinda at the time whom pulled and hooked the ball for 6.
Aravinda had a touch of genius. What an entertainer!

It's a shame Aravinda De Silva ended up on the losing side that day his innings in that final was a magnificent display of batting
Not for us Lancashire fans.😁😁
De Silva looks miles ahead compared to rest of the Kent batting lineup.
I now understand how great of a player ADS was.

I agree with you.
But Lancashire won. Boo hoo.

Lost
Imagine Aravinda de Silva playing in modern times with better bats and smaller grounds....
Can't believe Fulton in the sun hat is the same guy who is now on Sky Sports News! He was a very good player though.

Hi Ian, Really nice story 👌🏾 Thank you for the support 🇱🇰🤞🏽
You count defeat as a win. Tool.
"few quid" how many? and i guess odds were in your favor since no one gave a chance to SL ;)
A de silva at his best 😍
Losing is his best?
