Love this video!!! I want people to know that it does get better! I have VM and PPPD and I was so scared to travel again for fear of going backwards on how far I’ve come in my healing.
It took me a year and a half… 🥴 that’s a long time I know but I was really sick In the beginning and soooooo scared to travel again!
We drove 6.5 hours to the beach and I stopped every hour to ground myself and walk for a second and I did great!! I loved being able to be there and be a part of the vacation with my family ❤️
The fear with these disorders is very real I know, but the confidence that comes with trying things and seeing you are ok is a huge part of our healing!!
Hang in there everyone I know how tough it is to live with these disorders but healing is possible!!! (Slow but possible)😊❤️

Thank you! I just recently drove 7 hours to pick up my daughter from college and I was totally fine, but the days before I did feel anxious about driving that long distance by myself! I stopped for gas and got dizzy and anxious, so I had to collect myself before I started driving again. But I am also dealing with stressors at home, like my husband, not understanding my dizziness and anxiety, he makes it worse!

I haven’t even watched this all the way yet but saw the title and wanted to share a success story. I had not gone on a car trip since getting pppd and was especially anxious about the beach because the ocean obviously moves and is a large open plain visually. I was in the car six hours for my vacation and stood in the ocean and had a major victory. I did have some symptoms but it felt really good to be there. I know we can’t always just push our way through things but this was the right amount for me and I am so relieved to have travel back as an option.
Edit: After having had a chance to listen to the whole thing… this is such great information, thank you! That is fascinating about getting away from your usual environment and symptom associations and how many people feel better while traveling because of that.

@@DiamondForevah I did take medication for a while and it helped but I had some tough side effects and had to stop taking it. I do still have symptoms and they have morphed and changed over time but I think what has helped with being a passenger in the car is being in that situation more and more and also I think it has helped me to mentally try to remain calm through symptoms, i.e. not catastrophizing but also acknowledging what I am experiencing and it is ok if it’s too much sometimes and I need to back off of whatever it is that’s triggering.
I didn’t know what to expect with the ocean. I may never experience that the same way that I used to but I’m glad I got to experience it.

My symptoms began when I was 21 years old and I flew on a plane, I had no idea what was happening, it went away after a few weeks. Then it happened again about 6 months later after another plane trip. I still had no idea what was going on, nor did I connect it to flight. The next time I went on a holiday and what got me was a week up and down in the elevator. I still did not know what was happening, nor did I connect it to flight. After my next flight, I discovered the connection and have avoided flying ever since. Except for one time, where I flew, was not expecting anything and went 48 hours feeling happy and free, and then it hit me again. I am constantly dizzy now. I go out and continue to remind myself against all odds that I am safe and can do anything. I use breathing techniques and try and lead a calm life where I can. I don't use avoidance behaviors and use the lift every day (without thought). However, I am still chronically dizzy. How do I convince myself that lifts and planes are fine when they are the things constantly triggering my symptoms? I am only 26 and it is my dream to travel but I have been unable to. I have been on your waitlist since April and would love to work with you.

Hi Katie, your past experiences are an incredibly powerful force that program your brain to make the same predictions in current experiences. Once it happens once (even if it wasn't something you were expecting), your brain will expect it every time you do it again. Messages of safety and not avoiding are wonderful tools that help extinguish this response for most people, but if there are other unresolved sources of danger mode in your life (this can happen to people who had wonderful childhoods and not stressful lives- it can be subtle things), that message is less likely to get through. I know you have been waiting for a long time and I wish I had a way to help you sooner. Some people need intensive one-on-one help and that makes it difficult for me to help a large number of people at once. Have you taken a look at the course since the update? It might help you determine if there is anything else in your life that could be a source of danger mode.

Ahhh a little sad to report the trip (although amazing!) has sent me back into MdDs symptoms after being 2 years symptom free.
I will say the first 3 days were totally fine! I think that’s proof that stress and anxiety play a huge role in NCD. I didn’t feel symptoms after the first plane ride of first couple days!
But I think the amount of activity and anxiety I was doing grew throughout the week. Elevators and the museums really sent me over the edge. It was a massive trip and I had a lot of stressful moments. I’ve never properly treated my MdDs so I joined the Steady Coach membership and am hoping to once and for all tackle this! It’s scary to have symptoms after not having them for awhile but I’ve learned so much in the past couple of days.

Thanks so much for another clear explanation and great video. I suffer with vestibular migraine from a bout of labyrinthitis and am worried about boat movement and air pressure in a plane. I take Stugeron, cinnarizin and ginger, use ear plugs and try not to get too anxious about it. I’ve just come back from a flight and a boat trip one of which was quite rough and have had a migraine and tinnitus since then, but am also having osteopathy on my neck and not sure if that has contributed to it. So of course I’m already anxious about a planned flight and cruise next year and the ‘threat mode’ is totally active. But as you say once I was abroad on our recent trip, I was totally fine whilst there and since getting back my symptoms have come back. So it’s remembering this and trying to not let the fear of symptoms worsening from overwhelming me before and during travel and using your calming tips before travelling. And my husband won’t let me give in to the fear and to stop travelling…and he makes me feel safe. ❤️❤️

The last time I flew on a plane (having had no idea at the time it might trigger me and not even knowing it triggered me until 2 days later) I was debilitated for 2 months and haven’t flown since. I’m even more afraid of ever getting on a boat again, but after watching your videos, I want to give traveling another try. Do you recommend starting out slow? Maybe a short plane ride or boat ride? For the last 6 months, my symptoms have been low and part of me is very fearful I might put myself back into a debilitating state and have to start all over again. But I also know I can’t live the rest of my life without traveling.

Oh Cindy, I know MdDS is a special form of hell, and a lot of that has to do with the fact that people are (INCORRECTLY) told that there's nothing that can be done for it. I think things would look so different if people were given correct messages from Day 1. Regarding getting started traveling- there's no right way to do it. I don't see any reason to start slow- your body and brain are healthy. Might your brain have a freak out and possibly kick up symptoms? Possibly, because you've been told over and over that travel is a problem. However, the less afraid you are, the more you show your brain that you are completely unconcerned about its nonsense, the LESS likely it is that something like that will happen. The more confident you are that you can handle whatever symptoms your brain decides to create (and yuo can firmly and without fear tell it "NO."), the less likely it'll get going again. I know it's impossible to go in to traveling completely free of anticipation, but I want you to know that several of my clients with MdDS symptoms (regardless of the diagnosis) have gotten on boats, planes, surfboards and into cars over the last year, and they were completely fine. Please keep in touch - as you work your way through this, it would be an honor to interview you and hear how EFT has helped you!

    • @bsp1502
      @bsp1502 Год назад +1

I'm totally in the same boat - no pun intended. I had no problems with flights in my past, but I developed really severe motion/vestibular dizziness since 2013, and have not flown since due to the fear that it will trigger all of its terrible symptoms when I'm in the air. Because even going on a kayak for an hour will get me to feel like I'm walking on water once I'm on land; playing a video game will make me feel really dizzy; and driving my car (which I LOVED to do) for over an hour will get me to feel dizzy. I'd have to stop and walk around for a bit to get my visual/motion sensation back to normal. All of this chalked up to the assumption that "I *will* get sick and have a terrible plane ride" even though I haven't even gotten on a plane since having these issues. The projection of the fear is truly debilitating.
However, I have my first flight (since over ten years) coming up in February and I'm pretty stressed out about it lol. I have moments of feeling really confident, and moments of internally freaking out lol. I am deeply grateful for Dr. Yo and these insanely educational videos you're putting out. Sometimes it's hard to think that just telling your brain not to freak out will do the trick but I also have experienced the power of the mind/brain and it's ability to get us to experience outrageous symptoms in our body. I'm still really not confident about the whole plane ride but...I must live life to its fullest...I must overcome these fears of flying.
Thank you so much Dr. Yo! Please continue to put out these great videos esp regarding flying!

Hi Luana, both PPPD and MdDS are neural circuit dizziness so they overlap a lot. One doesn’t turn into the other; they are already the same brain process with different symptoms. It is also normal for symptoms of PPPD to change over time. That all being said, my clients with PPPD have traveled a lot and been fine. It is very important for you to try not to spend a lot of time fearing and worrying about this happening. The less afraid you are, the less your brain will receive the message that there is danger and react to things like travel.

I have a couple questions. A huge variety of people I’ve seen don’t think I should go on my cruise which is now in 2 weeks because I have to fly and drive and be on a boat for 8 days. However it’s fully paid for by other family members so I’ve been trying to be extra positive because I am telling myself I’ll be fine to go. I had two doctors recommend those patches for behind the ear to help prevent feeling worse i think? I’ve never had motion sickness or anythign like that only been dealing with that unsteady feeling for 7 months now off and on but it’s better than it was. Do u think the patch is a good idea or do you think a low dose anxiety medication would be better? A few doctors recommend that i try anxiety meds in general but I have anxiety about taking medication haha so haven’t brought myself to try that yet. For the patches behind the ear do u think I should wait and then put it on if I feel bad or should I put it on before I leave and just have it on the whole trip as a preventative measure? Btw love your page thank u so much!!

Hi Allie, it's really hard for me to give you advice about this since it's different for everyone. The patches won't prevent recovery or anything so it's ok to use them if you need them and your doctors think it's a good idea. They're usually for motion sickness but they are vestibular suppressants as well.

What if you have bppv and it’s travel day and your having a bad day

Hi Jason, BPPV typically only affects people in specific positions and can be resolved with a maneuver. My main concern re: travel would be not being able to find a vestibular therapist at my destination.

I have mdds and I feel fine traveling in the car but how to I bring myself down once I’m out of the car? Especially if I’m traveling not home

Hi Crystal, one of the best techniques here is to notice how you react when the symptoms come back. If you are searching for them and dreading them returning, the brain is getting a danger signal and that makes it more likely for the symptoms to come back with a vengeance. I’ll have a video soon on how to work through fear of symptoms.

@@TheSteadyCoach I know the symptoms will be there when I leave the car so not sure if fear is the word. Maybe more awareness trying to prepare?? Yesterday I tried not to think about it as i exited the car and def felt better. But sometimes the gravitational pulls I feel are so strong it def spikes my anxiety.

I adore your videos and love that you make the mind body connections. I have watched so many of your videos and they are so informative and reassuring that we can all be cured from our chronic dizziness. I have implemented so many of your strategies with great success. However my TMS started after using klonopin as prescribed…. benzodiazepines are only for emergencies and not regulated well by primary care doctors. You should just let your audience know that the FDA says that they should not be used for more than two weeks and the withdrawal can contribute to increase fight flight and anxiety symptoms which would only exacerbate dizziness. They are highly addictive, a class of meds that many take when no access to opioids, and many states have bills that are currently being passed so that patients have to be aware of how to taper off even after a very short term use and informed consent must be provided. After hearing you suggest that medication at the end of this video, my dizziness immediately increased, at least this is reassurance as to what you were saying is true. That past trauma and a decreased level of safety and the brain can trigger are the symptoms.

Hi Christine! My heart goes out to you- I am so sorry you went through this! I am glad you made this comment so that others can make informed decisions and know they are not alone if they have also gone through something similar. Benzodiazepines are often over prescribed (especially as bandaids to complex issues) and patients are not given appropriate information and support.

I am doing quite well as far as the dizziness goes. Lots of meditation in times of high stress. My iron was also low which was not helping so I have started a supplement and feel much better.
