Great video! My method for siding is to use the profile and the follow-me tool to create the siding as it’s own solid object. Then. I’ll use a cube to cut out for windows and doors and roof angles. It’s one solid so the trim away is easy!
Sketchup keeps amazing me with its simple yet powerful tools, The only thing I really miss is the free offline desktop version I used to teach youngers with, Thanks Aaron,
You can still download SketchUp Make (from 2017). I use it often. It's hard to find it through the website links, but you can do a google search. Although the webpage you end up on doesn't look right, the download links work. I really wish they had a non-subscription offline version for sale though :/
Good morning Aaron, 05:00 AM here in Brazil. How do you do that trick at 4:11? Select the roof (I can do that) and then turn everything OFF? Is there a command key for that? Thanks
When I use the trim tool my cursor turns white and I can not choose more than 1 component at a time. This means that I have re-click the solid trim button for each board I wish to trim. Can you explain why? PS I worked with the shift key in what I believe was every possible combination without success.
@Aaron, at @02:35 when you copy the first type of siding all the way to the top. In the final view you see the edge lines of the roofline protruding throw the siding in front. I can more or less understand this happening if the surface/edge difference is real close (fraction of a mm/inch), although it should not. But I have this often in my models even when for instance I have 6mm (15/64”) “thick” siding on a beam edge. On some angle while viewing the model, the beam edge are visible, while they should not be. On other angles the edges are not visible (as it should be). Is there a way to stop this from happening, or is this a 🐛…
Unfortunately, that is a result of having two items close to each other and the edges bleeding through. It’s all relative to the thickness of an item and the distance that item is from the camera/
I have an important comment not related to what you show here, its about Sketchup shortcuts, I am really disappointed it still limited to 1 letter. I would like to see more, speed is important, to gain speed this is crucial and going from one program to another gets confusing with commands. If you can make this would be a significant improvement on speed for all users. Imagine going from Autocad to Sketchup and use almost the same shortcuts.
Thanks, Aaron. Learning about how Solid Tools works with identical components is a great help.
Solid tools is such a time saver in many cases. Thanks for the informative Video Aaron.

I added a keyboard shortcut (shft-space) for "View/Component Edit/Hide Rest Of Model"
Yep! Hide Rest of Model is turned on.
are you using 3dconnexion controller or is that magic mouse that makes SU viewport so smooth?

it's actually better to have them in groups rather than components for texturing so they dont all look the same

With modifier keys you can have 3 or 4 keys for a shortcut
