Thanks Aaron, you just reminded me of the small-size-issue. That explains the issues I've been having with some tricksy door/window profiles recently. Thank you.
Aaron / Sketchup, I am missing something fundamental because my cylinders do not present as a smooth round shape like yours, the surface is a series of planes rather than being round. Why does my model look so different? thanks, Gus
Suppose you have two 2x4s back to back and you want a 3/4" stopped hole that goes 1" deep on one end, Trick is you want half the hole on one 2x4 and the other half of the hole on the other 2x4 and you need to maintain separate geometry how would you do that? My solution was to use solid tools and I did one 2x4 at a time. Can You use solid tools with one cutter to cut multiple items?Another way I did this was use Eneroth Solid Tools to make one 2x4 a component, copy it the scale it -1 and make a cylinder the size of the hole i need sett the cylinder onto the edge of one board half way, select the board click trim and click the cylinder... this cause both boards to have half a hole. I delete the cylinder and bring the board faces together. Done.
Hi Aaron, nice video. What would you do if you needed to cut multiple holes, say with an array of component cylinders, into the larger, vertical one? Is that possible? Thanks.
$300 a year for that. I bought a standalone license years ago but they changed to the subscription model and eventually I couldn't even open files. I abandoned my license.
Thanks Aaron. I actually have been trying to cut holes in a solid cylinder without any success. I have a 100mm diameter cylinder and want to punch 4 equidistant holes to 30mm. Please help as it's driving me crazy.
Without seeing it I would guess the geometry being created is too small. Try scaling everything up 100x and try again. If that does not work, try posting your model to our forum and ask for help.
I would use the same method Arron demoed today. Place the first hole "punch" rod then copy it to the last position and use 3/ to create an array and place the other copies equidistant. You will then need to use solid tools 4 times to cut the 4 holes.

Easy peasy! No one can explain so easily and straight! Thanks a lot Aaron... Please, continue teaching us!
Brilliant !! It's easy to follow your tutorials. Keep up good works Aaron. Thanks P 😊
Great! TY! Love your stuff, excellent teacher, one of the best!!!
Solid tools for the win, Thanks for the video Aaron, maybe a future video on all of the options of solid tools?
Yeah. This will be nice
If you search you will find a few solid tools videos on our channel. One of them from a few years back is a run through each tool.
@@AaronMakingStuff Cheers Aaron, I should have known you'd already covered this but I'm too lazy to go looking. 😝
Thanks for the video. Doing internal threads would have been a good example to show.
This came at the perfect time! Thanks
Not much new to me, but great video as always. It cannot be shown often enough how powerful the Solidtool or Boolean operator is
Thanks so much for another great video!
Brand new to SketchUp. This was super helpful!
Very helpful thanks Erin
Thanks for your sharing
Hi, Aaron I'm from Malaysia, did you know how to flatten the curved surface.. Thanks
Consider showing, placing a circular flat plate pad over a cylinder, a pipe elbow. This is called as a reinforcement pad for pipe trunnion supports.
Thanks Aaron.
Any way of finding out more ways to overcome crashes?
Nice !
On the 'whole', that was a great tutorial. Not at all 'boring'. Is it just me or was your voice very 'piercing' in this presentation?
Wow... just ... wow
@@AaronMakingStuff Cheers Aaron!
we always use solid modeling method for for creating a model in sketchup, there is a misconception about the application of group and component

Same process... just make sure that the cutting elements are solid, group then together and subtract them from the vertical one!
@@AaronMakingStuff Got it , cool.
good job can you slow down wit the movement of your Mose or any device thank you
That's right. The square hole!
(you'll get it if you saw it)
What about joining pipes? Thanks.
thankyou!
So solid tools only works with pro ?
yes
@@emporiastudio2384 How about a tutorial for make ?

@@peterthinks You would think you could do this with the free version - It's only a hobby for me, so can't justify the cost.

If you have SU Free, you don't have Solid Tools. Use "Intersect Faces" instead.
Why is it so hard to change the dimensions of an existing object? Maybe I'm doing something wrong.
Does anyone know the video he made a while back about converting files for cnc? It was an extension for sketch up I thought
Check our Fabber at getfabber.com
This was very useful....but how about engraving on a cylinder, is that even possible?
Very much so! I would probably lean on an extension like Joint Push Pull to do that, though...
@@AaronMakingStuff would this also work on a oval or a s-shaped s shaped surface?
I only have native tools, are solid tools available?
Solid Tools are a part of all versions of SketchUp Pro and SketchUp Shop!
I dont have solid tools . ?
doest work. all i get is a hole on one side not the back side
