These are actually Mercedes Econics, just re-badged for sale in the US. Provided they don’t have the folding door on the passenger side, they’re mostly great trucks.
Awesome job, haven't seen an SST an a while and glad you got to film it after lots of trying. The cab is just too big though, looks like a bus. Can't believe we were almost gonna get a fleet of these at one point, but they just didn't work out. Not to mention pretty sure that arm is the bulkiest heil has ever made. Must weight a ton!
The arm reminds me of a Curbtender arm with how bulky it is and how much stuff is packed on it. Probably the best Henderson decided to go with ZRs lol. Thanks Andres!
Amazing video Zach! Your camerawork never ceases to amaze, and what better time for some gorgeous sunrise scenery than for some shots of a brand new, unique truck like this! Must say, I enjoyed watching this in action for the whole 20 minutes, truck looks super sleek, and for an SST, it runs pretty efficiently, minus the cart spacing. Interesting to see how the arm kind of swings outwards when approaching the hopper, and then farther back in when retracting, somewhat like older 7Ks, which the body definitely resembles. One of the few times I've yet to see an Econic paired with an ASL, and personally, I like the looks of it. Yeah some dislike it, which I forsure can see, but the appearance is great. What a controversial combo to find running out in Clovis, again, fantastic work!
Thanks Spencer! I wouldn't mind seeing some Econics pop up in the Valley or even California. If they're priced low enough, they may even be able to get some cities to purchase a few.
Great work Zach! Man the sunrise was perfect for this truck. The cab looks great, almost like this truck was a bus. The driver operated this truck smoothly. This truck definitely has that Heil 7000 feel to it. All in all, great camera work, and awesome work at filming this.
Thank you! I wasn't counting on the sunrise looking as great as it did so that was a nice surprise when I went to edit. I agree with the 7000 feel, if Heil could somehow make it so when the arm is extended you could dump without retracting, it would make the truck just a bit better.
"Get your tickets ready! The charter bus is ready to start loading passengers". Very neat camera work! Seeing a Heil product in a Bridgeport dominant City is very odd but im sure Clovis is having fun with it. It's definitely not my favorite chassis for the Command SST body, it just looks a bit odd and ugly. Personally, love the Decal on the body, picture of good ole downtown Fresno!
Gotta give u credit for absolutely busting your ass with these valley vids. Seems you are always filming that wacky shit out there! Really hope this isn’t the future but wow, pretty unique. Really glad u got some footage of this!
I may be in SD now but I'll always be Valley at heart lol. I wouldn't mind seeing a few Econics pop up here but can't say the same for the SST. Thanks!
I have no doubt in my mind that there are an abundance of advantages to a cab such as this. Great visibility, comfort, convenience, etc. However I don’t think anybody can shake the fact that it really does look like a bus.
First off, great video! Thank you for posting. I honestly don't understand the appeal to this truck. The huge Freightliner cab is unnecessary for suburban America and no doubt comes at a huge price point compared to other electric cabs like the Mack LR. I am also not a fan of the arm. Maybe it is useful in certain places on specific routes, but to me is an overcomplicated arm with too many moving parts and too high of a price to be useful in a residential setting such as the one you filmed in. I have found that the simpler the arm the better, especially for larger and dense routes in suburban areas. Great work!
Thank you! I agree with everything you said on the arm, too bulky and complicated compared to literally everything else out there. Don't see the SST taking off in the future.
Great video! Not a big fan of SSTs my self. 520 looks better on a SST. cab reminds me of a Aussie truck, we got 2 ssts up here now. 2401 and 2402. 2402 is from pacheco same as 2401. I would film this but not my type of truck. The first shot is great! It would be cool to see SSTs with trigrippers.
This truck sucks. First, the sst is probably one of the worst technology filled ASLs. Most drivers hate it. Too much technology in these up coming trucks. The truck I wish that they would come out already is the LRU, those who get it will get it. Just a bad combo with the cab and body. The cab almost looks like it is as big as the body.

They have a shorter roof version that works for front loaders.
Heil. The only ASL I hate almost as much as AmRep. I’ll drive my ZR until it falls apart
This garbage truck is really cool! Good job👍

Nice video! Quite the combo! I sure hope this is not the common sight in the coming years! that Econic scares me! Great work!
Change is sometimes scary lol. I'd much rather see an Econic pop up rather than more SSTs

That’s a full on bus
😂
now that is an interesting truck. You certainly don't see that every day. Nice vid!
Thanks! Probably the only Econic SST in existence
Excellent video bro I like seeing electric garbage trucks. I really enjoyed this video as well.
100% diesel powered. Thanks!
Cool truck. Thanks for Sharing

I don't know if Clovis would describe this truck as "fun" haha. I love the decal they put on the side too! Can't get anymore Fresno than that
Awesome vid love the new truck!

It looks more like one of those Cabover trucks from Europe
WM has BYDs at the yard over from me. We are evolving in trash collection!
Sick background. Probably one of the strangest trucks out there.
Thanks! Knew I couldn't pass up this opportunity to film it

If this is the future, rest assured I won't be coming to the US to film. Nice video though!
it is indeed NOT the garbage truck of the future. it has been discontinued

I agree with the trigrips
Trigrips would look cool and probably be better suited for dense places like this
Welcome to what Australia suffers with America

is this truck rare what city did you find in
Looks like the Australian ones
Mercedes-Benz came with the Econic in 1998, so the "future" has been here more than two decades
Rear planetary axles
but how I live in that city how did they buy it
It's a rental truck they were testing out that day.
Is this city of clovis??
yes
What in the
Mercedes Benz Econic 😂
Looks Like Mercedes European Econic Version Lol
Electric?
Bro is it 2058 already?
I love garbage 🗑
The future for garbage sucks
💯 𝘱𝘳𝘰𝘮𝘰𝘴𝘮
goofy truck
All I can say is I hope my company never buys this abomination
same, though in 2024 republic services is gonna buy electric Peterbilt 520 ZR's for my city
@@CaliforniaCapitalRefuse
That’s almost as bad. How many hours can you run on a charge and how long does it take to recharge the truck fully ?
@@Trashman702 I don't know I haven't really heard much from republic about it but its all I know, and there maybe will be 520 Autoreaches
