- Philadelphia Police Commissioner Danielle Outlaw joined Good Day to discuss the surge in carjackings across the country and in Philadelphia - where more than 750 were reported last year, and at least 90 have been reported in the first two weeks of 2022. So far this year, police say four suspects have been shot by armed drivers in three separate carjacking attempts.

@@SandraWade666 BS. He stopped prosecuting some crimes such as prostitute which creates a pathway of money for people to buy illegal guns. He stopped asking for bail for many individuals that committed these crimes. Many of these individuals would have normally been in jail waiting trial for what they have already done. Krasner has created an open door to the thugs out here in these streets. He's gone after police officers and assistant district attorney's for revenge pertaining to the cases he lost when he was a defense attorney against the DA's Office. He's definitely part of the problem.

Because there's more to it than just blaming the carjackers. There are important questions to be asked: "What is causing this increase in carjackings?" , "Is it due to a culture shift? Economic shift?", besides just locking people up which has never prevented crime to begin with, "What can we do to encourage those to not need rely on criminal activity to get by?", "Do we need government social policy changes?"
Sure, we can all blame the carjackers and there is nothing wrong with that. But this issue, like everything else in life, is caused by something much bigger, and if we do not address the root cause, we are fighting a losing battle.

So the commissioner doesn't really have any answers other than what we already know and what we have been doing instinctively. She basically said keep a firearm on you as long as it's legal watch your back. So since police can't really do too much and evidently we're not a part of the government or have ties to the government meaning I wouldn't get my car vehicle back in 2 hours or 4 hours flash few days. Just like the senator did. It's basically take matters into your own hands until the police arrive.

I grew up in G-Town and it is sad to see the city I love become such a cesspool of outrageous violence toward each other. It has always been bad, but the crime now happening has been taken to a stratospheric level. It's easy to play Monday morning QB. I don't think any of us including the Commish has a solution, not even the police. Once the police kill one of these jackers, then fake ass BLM protestors want to come out in droves to play victims of brutality Yada Yada Yada. Why is nobody talking about the obvious elephant in the room? Who the carjackers actually are? What's the common denominator? Lol how they are trying to associate it with the pandemic. Agreed on it's much harder to steal cars the traditional way so carjacking is the way to go but I don't know why auto manufacturers and car alarm companies aren't installing anti carjacking equipment.
Here's what you want to do 1) First know that Car Jackers always wear a mask.2) When you see someone wearing a masked know that he/she is a car jacker. 3) Aim your gun and shoot right through the window glass at him and he'll either run off or drop to the ground bleeding. 4) Even if you shoot and miss, you're still good because no CarJacker wants a car with a broken window.

This, along with extremely violent shootings, assaults, and other property theft, have been going on for the last few years and Outlaw (what a name...) is just addressing the issue _now?_ This is not a good look for the PD nor the city. *Plain clothes* and additional surveillance cameras should've been placed on _every_ block, especially the most blighted areas *2 years ago.* This has absolutely *nothing* to do with politics -- but everything to do with *pragmatism* and plain old *common sense,* which is _obviously_ lacking in current leadership. The excuse that it's commonplace across all states and blaming it on the pandemic is a very lazy and unthoughtful copout.

They don't. They do NOT listen. I've been to neighborhood/community mtgs on crime, and yknow what the cops tell us? "It's just drug dealers killing other drug dealers." Citizens KNOW where the crimes are happening. It's little pockets around the city. Cops could step up patrols. The city could fix the lighting. They could put up cameras. These are things that citizens have suggested to the cops, and nothing happens. Cops get more and more money, for what? They use that money to buy military grade gear to use at the next BLM protest. It's sick.

If you are over 18, can pass a background check and purchased your gun legally, then you should be allowed to carry. Its called constitutional carry, something the Pennsylvania legislature is trying to pass but Wolfe the cowardly Democrat governor is standing in the way.

One of my friends was bicycle jacked last year around Thanksgiving in center city at 15th and Locust. Be aware of your surroundings and stay frosty.
