- Mukesh Ambani-run Reliance Industries Limited (RIL) and Ashok Leyland unveiled India’s first Hydrogen Internal Combustion Engine (H2-ICE).. The Ashok Leyland H2-ICE truck range is powered by Hydrogen, maintaining an overall architecture similar to a conventional diesel-based combustion engine. With a loading capacity of 19-35 tons, the H2-ICE heavy-duty truck helps quick migration to cleaner energy at a relatively lower cost delta.
Since This is just a concept and based on HYdrogen ICE, I'm penning down some benefits of the Hydrogen ICE Engine...
Hydrogen ICE (Internal Combustion Engine) trucks offer several potential benefits, which include:
Zero Emissions: One of the most significant advantages of hydrogen ICE trucks is that they produce zero tailpipe emissions when running on hydrogen. This can contribute to reducing air pollution and greenhouse gas emissions, particularly in urban areas where air quality is a concern.
Range and Refueling Time: Hydrogen ICE trucks can offer a longer range compared to battery-electric vehicles (BEVs) and shorter refueling times compared to battery charging. This makes them suitable for long-haul transportation and applications where quick refuelling is necessary.
High Energy Density: Hydrogen has a high energy density, which means it can store more energy per unit of volume compared to batteries. This allows hydrogen ICE trucks to carry more energy onboard, potentially enabling longer driving ranges without significantly increasing vehicle weight.

This is a really good approach from Ashok Leyland. But even JCB is working on a similar ICE engine in UK with a successful testing for past 3 years and if in case Ashok Leyland is successful in this area it will be a great news for Ashok Leyland.
