In India, roads are not good so max it can be driven is 400KM with 2 drivers doing shifts. Having managed logistics for a leading manufacturing company, cost indeed is major reason. Old trucks cost around 10 lakhs, small transporters break even in 4-5 years. new truck would cost upwards of 45-50 lakhs, which only big transporters with fleets operating in multiple states can afford. regardless of this, there needs to be a major upgrade in amenities, in such hot weather of ours, lack of facilities at destinations, rto passings and longer wait times, it is quite difficult for truck drivers. Compared to US(we should aspire) we are way behind, you can watch wall street journal documentary of trucking industry to get an idea.

I really wanted such video related to Indian trucks... usually big fleet operators like vrl,DTDC,delhivery etc have proper trucks and have proper coach built for it like Bharat Benz and diamond coach builders and kms coach builders which is costly so drivers who own very less trucks or just one cannot afford such trucks hence they get only main chassis from big companies like tata, Ashok Leyland and get their coaches built by local builders which is very cheap compared to corporate options like tata prima or Eicher trucks etc...but local coaches are made from thin metal sheets, wood, fibreglass materials which almost offer no safety compared to fully metal coach and etc

I think you forgot an important point here which is per capita income in general and per capita of drivers in particular.
That per capita income determines the what kind of lifestyle drivers have. With rise of the per capita income the quality of work environment also rises. When you compare income of these drivers with western ones you will see stark differences. And that’s why when we compare Indian trucks with western trucks we see major differences in their appearance and amenities that they have for their drivers. As India’s per capita income increases the quality of life of these drivers will get better and better and you’ll start to see drivers driving in nice shirt and jeans rather than in baniyan and lungi (because they don’t have AC in their cabins, not that I think less of lungi than jeans). The drivers will have better skill and training to operate these vehicles, they’ll have better road behaviour etc . With this the trucks will also get better they’ll have better safety features better brakes etc.
And I think this custom culture in our truck industry is amazing because India is not like Americas and Europe where geographies are mostly don’t change that much as it changes here in India. A driver can be riding his truck in hot dry Rajasthan to icy chilled Himalayan states in a single trip and on his next trip he finds himself driving in hot humid roads of western ghats. So building trucks according to drivers need is great and I love that fact that here in India trucks have their own signature styles depending upon where the truck is from, from Kashmir to Kanyakumari you can see quite different kind of trucks as people are mentioning in comments. I’ll choose this beautiful diversity in India’s truck culture any day over the homogenous boring designs of western trucks which are soulless. And I’m excited to see how these Indian trucks looks will evolve over the years and I hope that they won’t lose their desi-ness in the world where everyone is trying to look western.

Good video bro, Well people should know how trucks are manufactured, the chassis is made by Tata or Ashok Leyland and the body isn't, the body is made by other companies which aren't multi million dollar companies, the chassis are brand new the bodies are just made by small companies which can't spend that much on R&D, same happens with buses too but in buses constant R&D happens as it is related to passenger transportation and comfort, although international truck manufacturing companies do manufacture their own bodies like volvo and bharatbenz even mahindra with their navistar and tata with their prima which are more modern with more features but they are way too costly and in some cases double the cost as those bodies are either made by the company themselves or by larger companies, just like you said logistics can't spend too much for efficiency and keeping low cost is beneficial.......

The cost of transportation will remain high in India even after improvement in journey time due to good roads due to the following 2 reasons
1.Non mechanised loading & unloading ie use of forklifts cranes tail lifts pallets etc for eg if a Delhi Mumbai journey takes 3 days it takes another 3 days to load the vehicle in delhi & unload in mumbai bring the effective time to 6 days & the exorbitant Mathadi cost is another factor to add in
    2. Use of lower payload trucks for long haul journeys due to narrow roads in loading & unloading industrial areas even if one thinks of transshipping from higher capacity vehicles it becomes a more expensive affair

Transportation infrastructure highly depends upon the level road infra, which in turn depends upon state and local governments, checkpoints, 'naaka' and such things which leaves a trucker open for exploitation should be completely abolished. A one time tax, a monthly road tax, should also be introduced for trucks which run long distances between multiple states on a fixed route, so that they are not required to give anyone any tax. Also, education regarding trucking rules and taxing mechanisms should be more promoted. One can only take benefit of you, as long as you allow them to.

Truckers are themselves highly inefficient, they generally leave the decision-making on mostly uneducated drivers who would not make data-backed decisions. A lot of times drivers avoid expressways and even highways to save toll tax but take much longer in the journey because they don't understand the economics. We need large tech-enabled fleets to disrupt this and improve the efficiency of this segment. Just like Ola, Uber and recently Porter have done for respective segments. Unfortunately, startups in the intercity space have remained only marketplaces and haven't improved quality/customer experience.

My father is truck driver. He dont owned the truck. During my childhood i travelled with father from srinagar to delhi thrice. Most common things i observed the harrashment he face from traffic police whether in j&k, punjab, haryana or delhi. Everywhere were same.
Second there is no time limit for driving.
Third Basic amenity in trucks like ac or drinking water facilities. Even in dabba they are very expensive.
