    This didn't just happen to the Aranara and Nahida. Gouba also sacrificed memory and life force as the Stove God, so it's a running theme throughout Teyvat and makes sense with Paimon as well.

    • @effortlessfury
      @effortlessfury 2 года назад +4

      @@RejectedInch I don't think that's necessarily true. Istaroth continued to interact with Enkanomiya after the Second Who Came arrived. Also, considering she may have been involved in helping Makoto plan the Sakura Tree at Khaenri'ah, she likely Guobafied 500 years ago.
      The only possible relevant inference to your claim would be that Istaroth opposes Celestia and that the only reason she would oppose them is that they are the Second Who Came. While a reasonable possibility, it's not the only one.

    I think she shrank twice. Once thousands of years ago when the Scarlet King incident happened (Nahida even says that the Scarlet King died long before Rhukadevata), and that the form she took was not completely a child yet, she became an archon after this event not before. This is why the statue of the seven is too small to be Rhukadevata but too large to be Kusanali, it was based on her form when she became an archon. But 500 years ago in the cataclysm she used her powers again to protect but this time she used up all her memories and was now in her child form.

    • @wyndair
      @wyndair 2 года назад +19

      @@readerofalltrades it probably helped to keep her memories the first time she used that power.
      However since she knew she would sacrifice the last bit of her memories and that even a gnosis would not help to retain such memories.
      This might be why she probably left the Akasha system to her people and also maybe why she says the phrase "world forget me" because she may have used forbidden knowledge to harness the power of the god of time, after all she is the Archon from the nation of wisdom.

    2:39 King Deshret's case is separate from the Cataclysm event 500 years ago. It is heavily implied that Nahida was the result of an even more straining use of her powers in the cataclysm than helping King Deshret combating forbitten knowledge. First time she lost her adult form, then, without even fully recovering, she used all of herself, her form and memories.

    • @Rexhunterj
      @Rexhunterj 2 года назад +14

      Nahida was Rhukadevata's ultimate plan to deal with the forbidden knowledge, she herself was corrupted which was poisoning Irminsul, the only solution she found was to remove herself entirely from history, but only she can do that... and she couldn't find the courage to do it to herself, so she plucked the purest branch from Irminsul and cultivated it until Nahida was born, Nahida then replaces her and can ultimately destroy her and save Irminsul... though the ending of the 3.2 Archon Quest is dubious... there's implication that Dottore re-infects Nahida with forbidden knowledge, starting the cycle all anew.

    I'm pretty sure that the Scarlet King's death was around the time of the Archon War, considering that his modern era followers argue that Rhukkadevata betrayed him to become an Archon and usurp his title as the God of Wisdom, which would be weird if he died thousands of years after she became the first Dendro Archon and right as she was replaced by Kusanali. Especially since she didn't seem to have become as young as Nahida currently is (which, if they are in fact the same person, makes sense since whatever it was that happened in the Cataclysm seems like it was probably way more powerful than whatever the Scarlet King was sealing away) in that cutscene.

      The Khaenri'ahn sages brought Forbidden Knowledge to the godless nation, they are responsible for the fall of Khaenri'ah, all of the historical events we know of so far, all begin AFTER the king inducts the sages into his inner circle. Peirrot/Jester is known to have argued against the sages to his King, desperate to stop the folly he was watching unfold, but it was already too late, the king was corrupted. We can extrapolate that Gold (previously known to be a good, kind alchemist) learned forbidden techniques from them that led to her fall as well and the creation of Durin, the Rift Hounds and so much more. Those bio weapons were described as 'tools' she built to aid the nation's building efforts as they were supposedly building underground passages to each nation to reconnect with the surface as part of a larger infiltration plan.

    I feel that Paimon is a Seelie. The game has been outright suggesting it a lot recently with dialogue. While I won't say that her being a Seelie and a shade of Istaroth are mutually exclusive, a lot of the points people use to say that Paimon is the God of Time were disproven in a really great video by CatWithBlueHat. I think she and the Traveler met in a part of Monstadt we haven't been to yet as they had been traveling prior to when we first take control of the Traveler and the scenery where the Traveler fishes up Paimon doesn't match anywhere in current Monstadt, let alone where we start the game. Likewise, Paimon doesn't pause time in Domains, coop, story quest dungeons, nor the story (it definitely would have been helpful back when the Raiden Shogun was about to strike the Traveler down).

    As much as I like a lot of this channel’s, and other genshin lore theorist’s theories, I personally think that Rukkhadevata and Nahida, as people, are completely different.
    I am willing to entertain the thought that they might share a body, but they are completely different in individual identity.
    Exhibit A: Nahida’s confinement.
    Nahida wouldn’t have been imprisoned and essentially abandoned by the Akademia, had Nahida simply had the Divine Wisdom of Gods, that the Akademia idolizes.
    Now you might argue that Nahida didn’t have Rukkhadevata’s memories, and thus lacked in the wisdom of Rukkhadevata. To this I present
    Exhivit B: Nahida’s lack of Rukkhadevata’s memories.
    In the Aranara quest it is mentioned that losing memory is essentially like dying. This would mean that if Rukkhadevata did lose all her memories, that would mean that Rukkhadevata is dead. Plain and simple.
    Nahida might be in the body of the late Rukkhadevata, but I am sure that this hardly affects her identity as Nahida.
    In addition to all this, I would like to present
    Exhibit C: Guoba
    Guoba, confirmed to be born from what remains of a god in Liyue’s past, is definitely not that same god anymore. Guoba now is just a spicy bear, living in absolute ignorance and bliss.

    I believe there were actually TWO instances of Rukkhadevata "shrinking". First was during the Archon War (2000+ years ago) when she saved the people of King Deshret. That time she remembered he former life, and carried her memories forward. In the priest's dream, she looks much older post shrinkage. However during the Cataclysm (500+ years ago) she gave away all her power and knowledge (similar to Aranara) to save the world/Irminsul and that left her with Nahida's current form where she had no knowledge or strength of her former self. The sage's interpreted what was left here (Nahida) as a different person from her former self (no wisdom, lack of power etc) that they only thought of preserving what is left of her in the Sanctuary of Surasthana.
    I definitely think this story beat is going to be repeated with Paimon as well, as the last time we saw this was with Guoba but that was an event where things can or cannot be considered canon to the lore. In Gouba's case he still remembered Zhongli to some extent.
    More Speculation: I think the Sages have this mentality of preserving Nahida in whatever form she is left in and try to save irminsul themselves without putting her in more danger. She has after all saved Sumeru multiple times at this point and has barely any power left so there might be this idea of the Sages to try to act without her involvement this time around and they are getting super desperate at this point which shows their "evil" actions recently... or atleast that's what I think the story indicates to some extent. We shall see with version 3.2 if i am right on this or not..

      Interesting theory, I also think that one of the smartest people in the nation of knowledge would recognise Nahida's younger self, especially if they have seen Rukkha's appearance. Spoilers
      You aren't wrong, there's a missing bit for anyone who missed it in 3.2 Archon Quest. Nahida is actually created from the purest branch of Irminsul by Rhukadevata, not a reincarnation but a brand new incarnation of the Dendro Archon. Rhukadevata claims they are the same entity but with different paths, experiences and personalities.
      This likely means that Rhukadevata either has done this incarnation before and another Dendro Archon was sacrificed for the desert, OR Nahida is a brand new and special existence truly separate from Rhukadevata and the Dendro Archon of the Archon Wars.

One was over thrown by some other powers, I assume that'd be the Unknown god, so during that war b/w this unknown god/army and the P. one.
    Paimon being one of the strong/important Gods in Celestia she too was fighting and was the last one left, she then either used her Memories/powers to their limits and gave a fatal blow to the Unkown god making her weak in some way, OR she thought of not risking her life and giving herself time to heal and fight back again with force, so she fled Celestia and maybe gave away her powers for some reason OR just Like Rukkhadevata who created Nahida from the Branch of Irminsule Paimon too is created from a fraction of that powerful god Or The P. one.
    The Story of the 3 moons sister is that these three moon sisters would change moons every month (like changing moons with the other one and repeat the cycle) if they stopped doing so a great calamity shall appear, and one day they didn't change (I forgot most of the part please correct me if I'm wrong in the next few lines) I believe they fought each other, after not being able to change the moons and the great calamity occurred.
    Or I like to believe that, the reason why they weren't able to change their moons was that Celestia was under attack by the Unknown god, Or the unknown god might have attacked these sisters and 2 of them were killed while the third one (Paimon) escaped and shrank due to her powers being drained.
    Now here comes the "The skies of Teyvat are fake" theory, why? cuz Celestia/unknown god didn't wanted the world to look at the real sky which probably was covered in blood of the war(s) that happened b/w the Celestial gods and the unknown god/her army, or maybe it's to hide the Secrets of 3 moons and the 3 sisters perhaps these mooons exist out there but they're being hidden for they have some great secret.
    I'm believe in Paimon being an important god Under the P. one, just because her Name Is 'Paimon', and we know that All the gods have a Demon name and Paimon is the Demon who is the strongest among all the other demons in hell and Is under direct control of Lucifer, to put it simply Paimon is someone with great importance but just her past ofc isn't cleared. please add some more theories and let's talk about things I don't have a friend who plays genshin and is into lore, while I'm all about it but have no one to talk to :' )

    Very interesting theory! I originally assumed that Nahida’s transformation was unique to her Dentro abilities, as the Aranara and other plant-like creatures in Sumeru share some ability to transform based on the elements around them. However, it is good to remember that a key theme of the story is alchemy, which is well known for its fabled abilities of transmutation or transformation. Either way there is a precedent set here, so it is absolutely possible and perhaps likely that Paimon used to be someone else.

    Nahida says that the Irminsul has no information about the traveler since he is from another world. However, if Paimon is from Teyvat, then shouldn't there be information about her? Is the information so insignificant that it isn't even worth mentioning by Nahida? Or is it that it is skipped on purpose, like a lot of characters we meet don't question the existence of Paimon and her nature? It just puzzles me, if I were Paimon and didn't know my origins, I would definitely ask.

    I have another theory about Paimon. And it is such that Paimon was one of the Gods of Celestia but was expelled for some crime against the Heavenly Principles by the Supreme God of Celestia and no, I'm not talking about Asmodeus (aka the Unknown God), her title is only the Sustainer and not the creator, which suggests that she only protects and carries out the orders of the Supreme God, the Unknown God, according to my guesses, only serves the Heavenly Princes and the Leader of Celestia, I also think that during the cataclysm, performing her duties, the Unknown God most likely lost most of her power, possibly take off her memory and turned into a little girl and now she wanders around Taivat not knowing who she is and what happened to her, and it is possible that somewhere closer to the plot of Keanria'ha, the traveler will meet her in a weakened form and without memory, perhaps according to the plot she will regain her memory and eventually turn into a protégé of her ex the chief, then Leader Celestia, and if there is a region of Celestia, she will be a guide character there and it turns out that Paimon is also from Celestia, but was expelled and deprived of strength in punishment for some misconduct, but these are just my fan theories and until it is proven or this is only a theory, so no offense, okay. I just have a feeling that all of the current main antagonists are just a way to hide the main villain of the game for the time being - Fatui, the Evil Twin, the Unknown God, is just an enticing money maker, and towards the end they will show the real Final Boss.If anything I apologize for bad English

    Paimons similarities to seelies lead me to believe that she isn't the God of time. From the guiding, educating, treasure obsessing, and shape of her being so similar to what we know of seelies I just can't say she's the God of time. Perhaps tied to her, though.
    Although she certainly has many time connections. Just, go to the time menu look at it and then look at Paimons eyes. I never even noticed until Paimons said something along the lines of "Time passes in a blink of an eye." Spent about 15 minutes wondering if I was reading in too deep of if the time clocks are actually her eyes.

      She's definitely not a betrayer. 3.2 dropped some new stuff and revealed a huge lore bit at the end of it so I won't spoil too much but I will directly mention what was said about Paimon.
      Paimon is native to Teyvat, she also is special, different to the other beings in Teyvat, similar to the Traveler. The Traveler is fateless, meaning Destiny cannot shape our path as a player, we go where we please and Destiny must react to OUR whims. Paimon has no memories prior to meeting the Traveler, Nahida confirms this for us and this clears Paimon of any suspicion we had, she really is our companion and best friend we can rely on for anything.

    This could be a 'red herring' but in one of the world quests (I think its the one with the disguised fatui agents that want to leave) Paimon is explicitly called a seelie -- that makes me think that Paimon's connection to the seelies and their lore is stronger than the god of time/kairos/phanes connection. Honestly she could be connected to both and this doesn't prevent her from having 'shrunk' like Rhukadevata/Kusanali and Gouba, I just think there's more evidence for the seelie connection with her design/lore similarities and nicely explains why npcs don't question her existence/presense.

    great video TH! i definitely think there’s credence to the theory that Paimon expelled a great deal of power and lost most if not all of her memories/powers in a way similar to Kusanali/Rukkhadevata! personally i don’t think Paimon is intentionally hiding her past/true identity from the Traveller and just simply does not retain those memories just like how Nahida (as of 3.1) has no idea that she WAS Rukkhadevata….

    Another reason I think why memories have played such a strong role in the stories of Sumeru is due to Sumeru's and the Dendro Archon's ties to Irminsul. It is literally the nexus of Teyvat's Ley Lines, which house the collective memories of Teyvat. (I believe this is what the Aranara are referring to when they refer to "Sarva").
    This video has the gears in my head turning and I think I might be on to something. Supposing for a moment that Nahida was formerly Rukkhadevata and Paimon was formerly Istaroth...what if the power she needed to expend (that turned her into the Paimon of today) was so great that it wasn't just her own memories that were lost (to the Ley Lines, I'm assuming) but also the people of Teyvat's memories of Istaroth, as well? The only people we know are aware of Istaroth in the present day are Ei and Yae, and I'm willing to believe that they're an exception due to them not being human.
    Which also makes me think of the message in Irminsul. "World...forget me." What if that message has something to do with the possibility that this expenditure of power also has the potential for the world to forget them, as well? Which, I'm also just now remembering how people always thought Zhongli was God of the Stove. What if that's because everyone but "higher beings" forgot Marchosius ever existed after he expended his power, becoming Guoba?

    • @Rexhunterj
      @Rexhunterj 2 года назад

      So I won't spoil much from 3.2 if I can but:
      Nahida is literally the creation through Alchemy of Rhukadevata from the "purest branch of Irminsul" which means that while Nahida and Rhukadevata are related technically (similar soul or the same soul going through different experiences) Nahida is a new and different Rhukadevata, not the same and never will be.
      To do this, Rhukadevata had to essentially burn her entire life force and memories but even then she couldn't fully do it, hence why we hear "World... Forget me..." as she couldn't fully erase herself.
      If Paimon is an incarnation of Istaroth (which is weird as Paimon is a demons name) then she too likely sacrificed her powers and memories of herself... maybe Istaroth was corrupted by forbidden knowledge too? Or tainted by the Abyss? We know that the disaster of Khaenri'ah was much worse than reality seems to remember it. Ei describes the day as the end of the world, black-red skys, miasma and abyssal mud everywhere, monsters crawling out of the ground, through rifts, etc.
      Liyue's Millileth sacrificed themselves at the Chasm to contain the threat posed to the nation, yet modern Teyvat doesn't seem completely ravaged by a horrific world ending war against the gods... It seems like Istaroth's sacrifice was so great because she had to heal so much damage... Paimon is all that is left, a small fragment of a once great, benevolent god?

    What if the travelers are the primordial one that has been splitted by the other gods because they wanted the powers of elements all for themselves?? Maybe after dividing the primordial one they have doomed the travellers to travel forever for worlds. Then they returned to Teyvat without their memories and are now doing what they are doing because they were the primordial one in the past.

    The problem I have with this theory is that Paimon wasn't fished out from the shore we start the game on, the background looks nothing like the tutorial area, and it is said that they traveled for 2 months prior to the start of the game. Having said that I do believe that Paimon went through a similar process of "shrinking" but I'm not sold on the idea that she is the god of time (yet)
