That is so true, many trucking companies today have to order trucks with auto shift transmission cause new drivers don't have a clue what the 3rd pedal is for.
To get a CDL, if you take the test with an auto shift, it's noted on your license and you aren't allowed to drive a truck with a manual transmission.

Years ago I had a 1982 Oldsmobile 98 Royale Brougham that was grey with a light gray vinyl roof and a blue velour interior. One day I came out of a mall and walked over to my car and tried to unlock the door but it simply would not work. I walked around to the passenger side and the key would not work there either. The key was a little worn so I kept trying for probably five minutes getting more and more frustrated all the while. I happened to look up and there was a fellow standing and watching me with a bit of a smirk on his face. He asked if I was having problem and I told him "Yes, my key doesn't want to work for some reason." He said, "That's because that is my car." and then he pointed and said, " Yours is over there." I looked over and sure enough there was another grey on grey 98 Oldsmobile Royale Brougham. I shook my head and apologized to the fellow and told him I was an idiot. He said, "Ah don't worry about it. It's okay. You see, I spent ten minutes trying to get into your car......"

When any of my kids come out to the shop while I'm working on a vehicle, I always ask them to grab me something or help hold this or that; gives me a chance to be with them a little and they may learn something new. None of them (2 boys and a girl) have the "I must fix any broken vehicle" gene so I love it when they come out to see what I'm up to. Came home from college one December and decided to do my front brakes one Sunday afternoon before heading back to school. Ran out of grease after one side. No problem, thinks I. It’s only a 5 hour ride back to school and it’s butt ass cold out. I used my moms petroleum jelly. I’ll repack the bearings Monday after class. Made it about an hour and then all hell breaks loose. Similar outcome to this guys truck. Learned a valuable life lesson. I’m never out of grease, and the answer to the question about how much to use is basically until there is no more room for more on my cars.

my father(machine design engineer) decided to repack the front bearings on his 1961 olds f85. he filled the hubs up. got a mile down the road and had the brakes full of grease. So, do NOT fill the hub all the way full as when the grease gets hot and expands it pushes out into the brakes. some is good to much is not good. roller bearings do not have to run with preload(ball bearings do). so tightening them just enough like you do is just fine for keeping the hub running true and the disc brake happy. I like the way you do things.

Hey bruh you know that NASA, NAPA and Legos recommended hand bearing packing procedure dictates using your right hand to hold the grease and the left to hold the bearing while also you need to shorten your bearing stroke by 2 millimeters. Hahaha. Great video. Man you made me laugh throughout the whole video. The back and forth with your wife was hilarious. Seriously your videos are entertaining as hell and informative. I have been doing brake jobs on all my cars since forever but I live in Southern California and don't have the rust issues you have. I've never greased the caliper brackets and the pads like you do. I did the brakes on my 2007 Tundra and they worked well for a while but I started have a shudder every once in a while. When I recently did a brake job on it again the front brake pads had cracks from heat and one pad was way more worn than the other on the caliper. I did the brake job like you do and they are smooth. Thanks man. Lastly I'm so sorry to hear about your loss this past year. It's really hard to lose the ones you love. My parents and 3 of my 6 children have passed and I know how it is. The pain is hard but it helps you to remember them. Hang in.

One time when we were young and dumb, the first time I worked on a spindle unit with my friend on his Chevrolet S10 from the auction, we torqued the spindle nut down to 175 foot pounds. We had only previously worked with sealed hub units on our Jeeps which did, in fact, require 175 foot pounds of torque on the 36 mm nut. We looked up the torque specification for the Chevrolet S10, and used 175 foot pounds because that's what it called for. Well, since the truck was 2wd and NOT 4x4, it used a spindle and NOT a hub unit. Apparently the 4x4 S10s did use a sealed hub unit like our Jeeps did, but not this 2wd truck!
Needless to say, my friend said he thought he was nearly going to die on the highway when the bearings chewed themselves to shit. That was a real eye opener and lesson on how to properly deal with spindles - tighten it down, spin the rotor, and then back the nut off until it's just finger tight, and also so the cotter pin can fit.
The only damage created was that the vehicle needed new rotors, bearings, and seals again. And one of the front wheel's plastic center caps got so hot that it melted and flew off, somewhere down the highway. Funny thing was, Advance Auto Parts warrantied the brand new rotors, bearings, and seals that he had just bought the day before. So it was a relatively free mistake for him. Phew! We felt dumb!

I went to Advance for a slave cylinder for my 96 F150 and the gal behind the counter asked me if I had a manual or automatic transmission.

I kinda miss the days when you walked into a local auto parts store plopped a starter on the counter and an old man grunted, got up, walked into the stock room and came back with the correct part.

I work at advance and we have a stupid system. It has two sections for transmission parts, one for automatic and one for manual. Look something up like your slave cylinder under the manual section it will still ask you what kind of transmission type it has. it makes me laugh every time. I do however know not to ask the customer that question. Lol

Friend of mine went to a Gas/Service station(gas pumps and sausages really), because he needed some chain oil for his saw. The clerk pulled up a catalogue and promptly asked which model and year car he wanted it for.
Doesn't make it better when in the language we speak here it's literally called "saw chain oil".

I bet someone didn't install those seals all the way into the rotor & they popped out similar to the way that one popped out on you necessitating the use of the proper bearing seal installation tool you used. I'd tell that customer to keep an eye out on those bearing seals once & a while if I were you Mr. O. Good job, thanks for sharing.

Glad you mentioned the spring on the seals. Back when i was a apprentice installing a seal, overhauling a Detroit 4-53 Two-Stroke Diesel, the spring popped off-- geez, lucky i noticed it happened. The licensed mech. told me about the grease trick. Don't think he would have been happy to dyno it and find oil oozing out, although he was a pretty easy going guy. Never forgot that especially if you are using a driver that doesn't keep tension on the seal when installing. How much grease, how tight on the spindle nut? lol How true your remarks were. Great channel, by the way! Great content and comments while you are doing the job.
