I'm a die hard Honda fan but Honda is going to kill themselves in the South African market, R1m+ for this CRV or even the price of the Elovate is going make us Honda loyalist look somewhere else. The specs on the international equivalent CRV and Elovate are much better. The only current Honda's I would consider is the Civic and the Fit. I would rather take a gamble on Haval, Chery( Jaecoo) and Mahindra.

Yep , Honda dropped the ball on this one 😮... I think R850k is enough for the one you're driving. Think of direct competitors like the Rav4 VX hybrid, Tiguan R-line 2.0 tsi 4motion, and the Kia spotage...just to name a few.. now, at R1M, it's now on the Everest Sport , Kia Carnival, which are much bigger and better.
I would understand if this was a hybrid, but still, it will be a lot😑
If I were to spend that money on an SUV, I would buy an Isuzu MUX.

In the UK, the CR-V PHEV is priced at over 1 million rand. Honda is seriously taking the piss when it comes to pricing.

I swear if this car topped at around R850k(which is wat it’s worth), it was gonna sell really well. Honda SA flopped on this one. The exterior is very nice, the interior eish…looks old gen already
It's expensive for mahala with a same interior as the basic Honda HRV or Civic or Fit it's crazy are they selling sizes or what. For that money the CX 60 3.3l is the beast better looking same reliability because it's Japanese as well.
At most this car competes with the new Ford Territory but its almost double the starting price! Thats insane.

I'd buy a Mahindra XUV7000L. Almost half the price but specced very similarly. I loved the engine on the Mahindra too. I found it to be pretty smooth and peppy with that 149Kw. Interior is also great!!

The R1 million problem here isn’t a Honda specific issue or any other vehicle that is imported vehicle for that matter. It’s the excessive customs and import duties; taxes levied against these vehicles . This specific model that is reviewed here is actually ¥4,853,160 Japanese Yen or R552 000 with the current exchange rate (¥1 is R0.11) if you buy it in Japan. The bulk of that other R500k odd added is customs duty and a small portion is shipping.
It’s just a matter of time before most of these brands drop models offered and pull out of the market completely. There is only so much discounting they can do before they are barely breaking even or making a loss.
The Chinese brands have the advantage of lower production costs ( cheaper labour, cheaper electricity, globally sourced materials at lower costs etc) and therefore lower vehicle prices in their showrooms . So when the cars land on our shores and get taxed it’s still a better value proposition.
The German brands , Nissan , Isuzu , Ford found a way to keep their prices down by having local plants in RSA. If Honda can have a plant in India and use the existing BRICS agreements as leverage then perhaps we will see ‘cheaper’ Hondas. They could also spend billions and build a plant in RSA. Question is would they risk that given our political landscape, electricity situation, labour unions and strikes etc etc

Honda is definitely pushing their luck here. Whether we like it or not the Chinese will always have the upper hand in sales in terms of how good their pricing is not to mention that it's a only a few of their cars that are pushing the 1 million rand mark. The new Gwm 500 tank will be coming to SA soon and that car is way bigger than this and I'm convinced that it won't be priced more than a million.
I think the GWM Tank 500 will touch a Million definitely but yes I agree the Chinese are coming and the Tank might be a better car than this for that price. I will have to wait and see when it gets launched

This Honda is Expensive but All cars are just expensive now unfortunately😢The Mercs and the Beemers are expensive and Honda is more like a Mazda, they're sorta premium budget, their cars are better than the Chinese
But question is this Honda CR-V better than those Chinese that are cheaper ? Or the Koreans ?
