some good info there trigger. in my experience going back to the 80s...if i had something in base and something came up and i couldnt clear til the next day most basecoats are solvent sensitive , meaning clear will melt in but im not coming on your channel and call bs because youre speaking alot of truth. and im definitely not telling someone to do that..just my experience, but intercoats do help and some systems have reactive reducers and your recoat window is definitely a set time frame as the basecoat will set up like single stage...just look at the can next day if you dump your used/activated base in with the unused and watch it turn in to snot lol...keep' coming. you give out a lot of good info. you are definitely correct that the drier you spray...the less adhesion you have
@@oldschooltwist18 back in he 80s wasn't that the lacquer paint? Then shortly after the lack of paint and they had the clear coat that you had to wait until the next day even if you dropped a drop of reducer on the paint it would eat straight through it. No wonder I had a few small runs. I told you I didn’t know anything, also, I am the nut job, also. Have a good weekend brother. Thank you for all you do for us!
Sweet as a nut my friend 👌makes perfect sense dry paint hasn't got a wet film for the clear to bond to, also the adhesion window will be drastically reduced because its dried to quickly. Every two tone big boat the color on the brow, trunk, and hull are sprayed. Then masked up and cleared the next day. I was told I have a 3 day window for base and 7 for sealer.
If that's what you are told then that's what it is. 🤷🏼♂️ Every paint manufacturer has a different time. And I'm sure since you paint boats they use paint with an extended amount of working time vs using car paint. 🫱🏼🫲🏼
@thetriggerman954 for sure brother 💯 I always make it an habit to tack rag between base coats cause it will show alot like you said pluss even if the Dust is due to settling overspray from poure exhaust in booth you should want to whip it clean for an smoother finish clearcoat at least that's my thoughts 😉
Ive had my car ruined twice by two bodyshops that clear coated over basecoat too early, especially after using 6 coats of candy base. I told them to come back the next day and clear it but they let it flash off for 30mins and hit it with the clear coat. Both times yhe basecoat blistered under the clear. Devastated! I personally always like to come back the next day to clear coat it as i know the basecoat has gassed off fully and there wont be any surprises months down the line. Paint technology has come a long way.
@@thetriggerman954 House of Kolors makes their Kandy Basecoat colors. (KBC) Not traditional Kandy, but they call it Kandy Base coat. Maybe thats what they used.
@thetriggerman954 it was House of kolor "Kandy" base coat. It's not a true candy but gives a similar effect. It requires 2 coats of silver or black base (depending on the final tone you want) and then 4 coats of "Kandy base" over. I can paint and have been doing so for bearly 20 years but don't have the space to do entire cars, so the second time around, I painted all the bumpers and plastics and they came out perfect.
