    I remember this night the show aired on HBO. The Dice Man was revolutionary that night at a time when great comics were everywhere. He really added a new flavor at a time when there were real stars in comedy. You had to know New York and stand up at the time to really get it. Even for the little time he was on top, he became legendary.

      He wasn't really _that_ revolutionary. He just took everything that New Yorkers (a.k.a. douchebags) say in their day-to-day lives and said it on stage. Nothing he says is funny, it's just that his level of nerve and arrogance is entertaining.

      The important thing about Dice, even if the act is dated, this stuff works when it works bc he is NOT cracking up at the jokes himself. He is just selling the delivery as if he doesn't care if you think its funny or not. And too many comedians especially of the last 20 years do this thing where they laugh at their own punchlines even a little bit and it washes away the full delivery.

    • @WytZox1
      @WytZox1 8 лет назад +5

      Oh please drop that Xenophobic mantra. US Constitution, Bill of Rights, Pledge Of Allegiance and all official US documents are wrritten in English so why shouldn't it be declared our official language? Other countries all have an official language that immigrants are expected to learn so is the rest of the world Xenophobic in your opinion? Yes, I believe all US citizens should learn English. My dad and all 4 of my grandparents were immigrants who learned English and were proud to become Americans. They didn't wear any foreign looking attire or expect public servants such as cops and firemen to learn their language. That's the way it was and that's how it should still be! ☺

    • @misterguy2329
      @misterguy2329 8 лет назад +2

      "US Constitution, Bill of Rights, Pledge Of Allegiance and all official US documents are wrritten in English so why shouldn't it be declared our official language?"
      The English language being popular at this moment in history does not mean we should actively lock other languages out.
      "My dad and all 4 of my grandparents were immigrants who learned English and were proud to become Americans."
      Just because your ancestors learned a new language doesn't mean everyone else has to. And for that matter, why can't YOU learn another language? Wouldn't it be better to have America filled with multilingual people rather than just people who speak English? Why would we deliberately not support that?
      The bottom line is that your ideas are all self-serving and pro-status-quo. That's not in the country's interest. If I'm an employee at a company for five years, I might want the company to make a "can't fire people with five years or more of employment" rule, but clearly that's not in the company's interest. What you're saying is basically that; your ancestors did all the hard work of immigrating and finding/making a spot for themselves, and now you're basically saying "let's lock the door now that I'm set up." It doesn't work that way, that's to the country's detriment.

    Saw Dice a few times when he was huge - once at Madison Square Garden (when he sold out two nights) and once at Nassau Coliseum. Both joints packed to the gills. For about three years, for those not old enough to remember, Dice was absolutely gigantic. Maybe the most popular comic ever. Around '91, there was talk of him headlining Shea Stadium - if it would have happened, he would have filled it. And sure, like say, rock bands, he's not gonna be as good 25-30 years later. But he's still funny and it's important to understand how his very un-PC jokes were such a hit - because most people didn't wake up every morning back then on a new quest to find something that "offends" them. It's a shame that so many, in America and elsewhere, have become so pussified and infested with political correctness. Stops them from enjoying an awful lot out there. The PC gods are very proud - they have trained the masses well.

Write ups in the paper and stories on entertainment news about how "offensive" he was. I loved his act, but it was not free of controversy at all. You're letting nostalgia blind you.
