OK. You wrote it right. We have cold winters with the lowest levels of minus 40 degrees Celsius. Therefore, I grow only at home under the lamps and near the window. Therefore you are right - the pots should not be large. Because the roots do not cover the entire lump of the earth. I am grateful that you showed the roots of your Boswells. I thought it was my problem or the wrong soil. But, as it turned out, the roots are really not very plentiful at Boswell.
Thanks!!!! And that is exactly why I grow it, another reason is the habitats are endangered also, war and people's destructive ways make it hard for boswellia species to regenerate. Over harvesting really effect germination rates of seed produced.😀👍
I came back to older videos to get more acquainted with these trees wich were unknown to me. My thing are native plants of Portugal and westernm mediterranean Europe but it does not hurt to know more about exotics. These are kindd of interesting in several aspects. Thanks for bringing it to us
Now you made me curious. Do you speak portuguese? Those are two species I have never seen, they are rare. They are shown as native but never "met" them in loco. Alcaparras (Capparis spinosa) might be seen further south in the Algarve but we do not have Crocus sativa. Of the genus Crocus we only have C. serotinus and C.carpetanus which are similar. But not in my area. I live 70 km north of Lisbon on the coast near Peniche. I have a blog and try to make a thorough survey and study of the local flora as in floresdoareal.blogspot.pt/ Anyway, maybe one day I will find them.
Fernanda Nascimento I speak some Portuguese, and pretty fluent in Spanish, German, Italian, and very fluent in Japanese and also speak some Chinese (enough to get around)
Thank you for this great video. I wish I could grow some of the Frankincense trees in Canada as well, but here it is too cold. Boswellia Carterri and Sacra are different species. The essential oil from Boswellia Sacra smells a bit more sweet and has slightly different properties. Both essential oils from these trees are amazing, assuming you will get a good quality essential oils. I think it is good that you grow these trees since they are becoming endangered in some of the places they came from.
Renata Ra Genetically sacra and carteri are the same plant its been scientifically proven. Carteri they kind of classify as a sub species of sacra because it grows faster and is from somalia. I still keep them as seperate however. There are slight differences. And you can grow frankincense anywhere as a potted plant and bring it in for winter.
Pipien Sukasa Orchids yes its great for bonsai and easy many people in Asia are growing them and they are gaining in popularity as bonsai and they even have pretty flowers too.
It is said that Florida has the same climate with my country so if it can grow there it can grow here too. I'd like to try it. Did you buy a small tree of did you start with seeds? Soil PH?
They've been downsizing and have moved from Florida. After 40 years growing and selling it's time to slow down and now reside in South Carolina I believe.
Serrata is one species I don't have yet, I need to buy seeds for it actually, depending on the species many Boswellia growt pretty quickly I have found. B. neglecta, elongata, rivea, sacra/carteri, dioscoridis, socotrana, and nana all grow pretty fast. Hope that helps, but most grow quickly.
Louis Hernandez It depends from species to species usually 15-20 years old, once cut they allow the resin to dry on the tree for 15 days and then harvest and further cure it.
thevengeance96 There's a few places. aridlandswholesale.com/oscommerce/index.php?cPath=29_153 Here's another www.out-of-africa-plants.com/product-category/boswellia/ And miniatree garden on eBay sells seeds and plants.
I am concerned that the roots of Boswellia are very weak and do not grow well. Do you think it makes sense to give a plant such a large pot if the plant doesn't use all the land in it? Or maybe we give them the wrong composition of the earth? why the roots are not active and do not fill the entire pot? And I want to ask you to call the plant Boswellia. Because you pronounce the words Sacra or sacred so that the Russian ear hears it as SAKURA - Japanese tree. :) This is misleading listeners.
Okay sorry for the misunderstanding. Boswellia trees, they can take a large pot if you live in the right place. (I live in Florida, tropical climate) or you can grow in the ground with no pot. For other growers, you need light and heat water and fertilizer, for active growth. Boswellia do not like their roots disturbed, it makes them lose their leaves. Require well draining potting media. If you suspect an issue don't be afraid to look at the roots. It's okay to unpot them to look at the roots and depot them. Dormant time is best to Repot them. If your in Russia or where it gets cold, it's hard to grow. Smaller pots, lots of light and heat. Hope that helps.... 😉👍
Love these trees! I grew up with frankincense in my church.😀
So did I, the Catholic church burns Boswellia papyrifera.
Thanks. This is a wonderful plant appeared due to miniatreegarden. Many thanks from Russia with love.
Yes Jason is one of the people responsible for these trees becoming available for us to grow now.
Wow the elongata has really grown! great advice , thanks.

You're my hero. Over harvesting for essential oil is endangering the entire boswellia genus.
Thanks!!!! And that is exactly why I grow it, another reason is the habitats are endangered also, war and people's destructive ways make it hard for boswellia species to regenerate. Over harvesting really effect germination rates of seed produced.😀👍
Those plants are awesome😀love it thank you for sharing whish I had some to 🙋🏻♂️👍🏻.

Fernanda Nascimento One of the plants I'd love to grow from your region is a caper bush and saffron.
(Alcaparras e açafrão)

Waw!!!!
I am going to start an experimental cultivation of Boswellia in Lagos, Algarve. Let us see how that goes.
your videos are so good thanks
Thanks, I think they're better now, I've been at it for three years now as of May 11th.

I guess this plant could be a beautiful bonsai.. Thank you!
Pipien Sukasa Orchids yes its great for bonsai and easy many people in Asia are growing them and they are gaining in popularity as bonsai and they even have pretty flowers too.
OK I will google to see the flowers.. Thank you Todd!
It is said that Florida has the same climate with my country so if it can grow there it can grow here too. I'd like to try it. Did you buy a small tree of did you start with seeds? Soil PH?
Both, I have started seed and bought small seedlings and rooted cuttings. They like high pH they grow in lime rocky soil depending on species.
@@toddstropicals Thank you sir. I'll have to find some seeds and seedlings now and have a go.
Hi Todd thanks for awesome vid . Where do I find good Boswellia seeds or a tree? I live on the East coast.
Miniatree@ebay has them occasionally, but more so offer seeds.
@@toddstropicals Thank you kindly and God bless you.
Out of Africa doesn't seem to have any cuttings

@@toddstropicals I'm in florence. Is there any way to buy a tree?
Do you grow boswellia serrata, what is its growing speed...

Is it possible if you can make a video on how you extract the part to make the medicine
Louis Hernandez My trees are way too young to tap for the resin but I can do a demo of how its done here soon. Thanks for watching & subscribing!😀
Todd's Tropicals no problem, how long does it usually take to take resins from them
Louis Hernandez It depends from species to species usually 15-20 years old, once cut they allow the resin to dry on the tree for 15 days and then harvest and further cure it.
Todd's Tropicals 😪
Both companies don't offer the Boswellia trees :(
Ahh, they must have quit cultivating them, low germination rate it isn't worth it to them.
Please could you tell me where you bought boswellia's tree?
