    What did you think about Kabu's appearance in the Pokémon anime?
    *(side note: using Paulo's battle theme as background music in this video was highly intentional - I loved the ending of the Villain Arc in Pokémon Masters EX!)*

      I really like kabu. He seems like your standard kung fu teacher crossed with a gym leader type of guy.

    Even though no MAX, this was great in divulging Kabu's character to Roy & Liko. Kabu's training helped Fuecoco learn Flamethrower but still no chance against Kabu's Centiskorch's Flash Fire & better firepower. And his training really helped develop Liko's character: Liko's kindness is an admirable trait, but it also holds her back; Liko has real battle potential within her, but she's lacking the Push to get her to really let herself out & go all out. She needs to find Her Driving Force for battling.

    Liko and Roy are such nice fresh main characters 🥰 this series has so much care and good writing, allowing the characters to emotionally and mentally evolve over the course of the show, which is primarily represented and conveyed through their Pokemon and adventures. I wouldn't be too worried about the battles because as the arcs progress and become greater in scope and themes, the battles will get on the level that many fans are wanting. I wouldn't doubt that there might even be an arc primarily focused on battling at some point, with gym leaders or elite four or champions being some of the main players. Also the final arc that will probably be about the good guys vs the bad guys and everything having to do with the pendant will probably be where all of the biggest battles take place. And once we get to all of those, this series will completely surpass the last because of the story, themes, buildup, and connections to every single character and plot point involved when it comes to those final big arcs, battles, revelations, and confrontations. That's what it really takes to write something great ✨

    I would've give this episode an 8.. I'd argue that it had a great focus on Liko as a trainer. They're definitely leading up to her character development. Liko has a lot of talent that she is reluctant to use because she puts the needs of others over her desire to win, it's clear that sprigatito wants to win when they have battles and Liko realized all this thanks to Kabu.
    It's also important to remember that they're quite literally rookie trainers. So of course the battles have to be according to their current experience as trainers.
    I get wanting to have intense battles but I honestly like what they're doing here. Liko having flaws that she can overcome is a lot more compelling that having a static protagonist fearlessly throwing himself into every situation. It's consistent with her character too so I don't have issue with the kind of battles we're having now. Patience and good development and build up for her is what is going to make the intense battles way more meaningful later on.

    6/10,This was a pretty solid episode, it gives liko and roy some much-needed development and I also like the subplot revolving around wakuba,even referees can join in on the fun and I hope we see her again in the future.
    - Now even though fuecoco won the gym challenge for Roy,but lost the battle,it did learned flamethrower in a very rhythmic moment which I'm very proud of my son ❤️🔥

    I like how Horizons uses battles as tools for specific character development in the story rather than superficial battles where there's just a vague vow to "get stronger" after losing.

    Don't know how i'm gonna sound when i say this but i believe Horizons firmly tells us that battles won't be as important as storytelling and character building. Battles will remain present, its pokemon after all, but they won't be a priority. I also believe Horizons is also somewhat using this as an advantage in a way where instead they are building up a high quality battle as a climax of sorts, if you get what I mean. And i am completely fine with that.

    • @EliteTrainerMark
      @EliteTrainerMark  Год назад +6

      I totally agree that battles are taking a back seat in Horizons, that definitely seems to be the way things are going. Which is a little surprising to me since the battles have always been the most popular part, but then again they already took the massive swing of replacing Ash, so by comparison, taking a big swing of moving away from battle-focused plots to focus more on long term character development and storytelling isn't really that much of a shock

    • @shadowwizard2383
      @shadowwizard2383 Год назад

      Yeah of course battles are not as important because each of the main characters are treasure hunters at their core and have something else that they do friede pilot, Murdock cook, ludlow fishermen, mollie nurse, orla fixes the ship, dot streamer, Roy/liko are just treasure hunters at the moment that could change later, mostly when talking to liko grandma because she seems like she will have at least one important answer for us about the ancient pokeballs and pendant. As for their other thing they could do I could see them doing a sport or becoming guardians maybe even aura guardians would love to finally have a female aura guardian. It would of been cool if there was a tag team battle league or team battle league thru out HZ nothing solo like ash was but maybe we could get a little one sometime if it’s tag team I could see the teams being liko/Roy, Murdock/dot, mollie/orla and friede/ludlow but I would prefer a team battle event because it would be something new to Pokémon.

    i really like the way Liko uses Leafage, through the Pokemon anime and movies, you see moves used in different ways and forms, but in the game they are always the same (they did try something like this in Heart Gold and Soul Silver, i believe, for example if you used defense curl before rollout, it would be stronger, but the move looked the same)i figure it's not worth putting in different forms for the same moves, let alone different effects....but the way they did it here, at first i thought it was Liko trying to learn Magical Leaf and Leaf Storm, but it feels more like Swift Style AND Strong Style, and if they are going to bring that into the anime....i am all here for that
    this also shows that Liko may be tougher than you might think, you figure Roy was going to be more enthusiastic about battles and even better than Liko for a while (until she gets all the Titan Pokemon), but now we see not only does Liko like battling and is quite good at it, if Roy has drive and determination to never quit, Liko has brains and battle instincts, along with creativity and imagination....which will make any serious battle the two have later intense and with different battle styles

    • @MarcusMapua
      @MarcusMapua Год назад +2

      Liko's Sprigatito's usage of Leafage is a lot better than Ash's Rowlet's Leafage that's for sure. Liko has real battle potential within herself, but she's lacking the Push to get her to really let herself out & go all out (like roy & wakaba showed in their battle in the episode). Liko just needs to find Her Driving Force for battling.

    Can't believe we're already 20 episodes in! Liko as a character is getting more and more interesting each episode. What Kabu said at the end makes me think about what are we going to see moving forward; and I mean far forward. Sure, we're probably going to spend many seasons with the overarching Rayquaza arc - but what will Liko's journey lead to eventually? Sounds cheesy, but maybe Liko figuring herself out is the journey in and of itself. Though I wonder if she will have what it takes to become another 25-year-long protagonist lol

    I absolutely love Kabu as in Sword and Shield also Kabu looks a bit older than he did in sword and shield (is that just me) and seeing a dynamax band in the Gen 9 anime is awesome hope when they try and show more gimmick items like Z-Rings and Mega Bracelet but they might go in a different order for regions as they’ve already visited Paldea and Galar but i think they’ll go from Gen 9 backwards

    I’m kind of torn with Liko’s character development in this episode. On one hand, it’s really unique since we haven’t really seen this with any other character in the anime (aside from the Mallow/Lana battle) & it’s good that they’re addressing these traits moderately early.
    On the other hand, it is a little exhausting because we’ve already had three female protagonists who were passive, compassionate, and didn’t know what their goals were (Serena, Lillie, & Chloe), so seeing that archetype being played again with Liko is a little frustrating. She doesn’t have to be the next Ash, but I was hoping they’d make her a little similar to older pokégirls like Misty, Dawn, Iris, or May
    I like how they’re handling Liko so far, but I can understand why people are getting frustrated or burnt out seeing this same pokégirl archetype for the umpteenth time & how it seems like she’s basically Roy’s sidekick due to all of the focus he’s been getting

    • @shadowwizard2383
      @shadowwizard2383 Год назад

      Yeah liko takes it to another level because they would never forfeit a match completely and would still try to win. I won’t be mad unless we leave Galar and liko doesn’t catch hatenna, has a solid goal most likely with 6 things to do and done the first thing in her goal that is what she needs to catch up to Roy and Roy shouldn’t battle/catch another ancient Pokémon, would be ok if he saw rayquaza but that’s it. To me it seems that kanto was to introduce liko/Roy, paldea was to get Roy a new Pokémon, solid goal and done the first thing for that goal and Galar is for liko to do all that and they will keep switching focus every region.

    • @louisscavo6396

      @@EliteTrainerMark well, I may have spoken too too early, to the extent I didn’t watch the ending showing Liko looking at the sunset of the horizon (I love how they do that in the show) pondering as to what is her path. Which is totally fine with me since she’s a new character. We don’t know anything about this girl and I hope she finds her way. After watching Pokémon for over 25 years now, I understand it may take 3+ seasons for a character to know what they want to do. I mean look at our girls Dawn & Serena for example. Started out not knowing what to do and/or how to do it and become better. With some Pokémon disobeying them like Charizard disobeyed Ash in comparison to Dawn with Mamoswan, or Iris with Dragonite. Anyway, you get my drift. Liko just did not do well in that gym challenge, was very hesitant and didn’t grow as much as Roy did. Then again, Roy’s path/wants in conjunction with his ambition is making him stronger and better to hopefully one day catch (or re-catch?) that shiny Rayquaza. So like, I get why he progressing, but Liko, well…. I just don’t feel much progress with her and I could’ve sworn she was the main protagonist, but it just seems like she’s not. Ergo, why I said she’s getting shafted. Don’t get wrong, love the story and I’ll continue watching, but not lying, I’ve been watching the series only every 2-4 weeks to catch up on the story instead of trying to watch it each and every day at the edge of my seat. Maybe that’s the difference. With Ash, we knew what the goal was. With Liko, well, she doesn’t even know so how can I? Idk I guess I’m done ranting. For every negative thing I say I definitely have a positive note to follow. I want to keep watching and finding out what happens, but I think until Liko finds out which path she’s destined for, it’ll be hard to follow what exactly is her purpose. Although, I don’t see Roy catching shiny Rayquaza without Liko that’s for sure. Due to the Pendant thing, but that’s such crock for keeping her there. That can’t be her only goal and/or purpose. Maybe she’ll go on a gym challenge or something to grow as a trainer. Then again, maybe that’s Roy’s department and Liko will go on that spiritual “treasure hunt” like in the game

    • @EliteTrainerMark
      @EliteTrainerMark  Год назад +2

      I can't really disagree with anything you said, but I can at least give my perspective. I've actually seen other people say that *other* characters are the ones getting shafted, because all the focus is on Liko. So that much is definitely all down to each individual's perception😅
      I think that Liko actually has the makings of a very skilled trainer. She's able to come up with unique strategies that most people cannot, and she isn't afraid to stand up to really strong opponents. As for her goal, I actually did think it was as simple as Liko chasing after the mystery of her pendant, so I was surprised that this episode seemed to open up more possibilities. What will Liko's path be? I guess we'll have to wait and see, we are only 20 episodes in after all.
      As for Gym Challenges or anything like that, I wouldn't get your hopes up. I don't think anyone in Horizons is going to have a structured goal like that. To compare things in regards to the pacing of a series, I think Liko/Roy will catch a new ancient Pokémon about as often as Ash would win a Gym Badge. I think that's their trial, their repetitive challenge that defines their journey.
      But idk, everything we think we know right now is just based on the first 20 episodes, and clearly Horizons is taking a slow approach to building the characters and story. Each week may not be "edge of your seat" type stuff like Journeys, but I think this slow build will pay off in the long run

    • @louisscavo6396
      @louisscavo6396 Год назад +1

      @@EliteTrainerMark I agree with everything you just said. That’s so true man. I mean, depending what’s the perception of each individual, to each their own huh. Heh.
      For a second I thought the pendant was all she was going to do, and then I thought maybe Freid wanted to do it and Liko was a bit interested, but then she lost the pendant and the Titan Arbival came out (Idek if that’s the Pokémon’s name, but you know who I mean lol). The gym battle I believe opened her eyes to more possibilities. Don’t forget, like you said, we’re basing everything off the 20 episodes we know and Liko is a new trainer, with only her starter Pokemon, with endless possibilities within the Pokémon world.
      So yeah, I mean, I’m glad Dot is coming out more too. It’s like Ash, Brock and the female companion sharing all three starters so I like that. The only weird thing about all the Pokémon on the ship is I don’t think any of them are actually captured lol. Like who possess that Elekid?? Lol.
      I may not be at the edge of my seat, but I definitely want more detail and I yearn for it 😅😅🤣🤣🤣🤣😅😅

    Based on how the early pokemon game's story and playthrough mechanics were structured on pokemon battles and action adventure, these themes are what made the pokemon franchise a big marketing sucess for children. However, pokemon horizon doesn;t seem to focus much on these themes (pokemon battles and action adventure).
    The horizon story is too slow paced in my opinion to be considered a good action adventure story for children. What I felt pokemon journey's did right as its own arc story was incorporating alot of action and adventure to its story that were well known in the pokemon games by frequently introducing legendary pokemon, and different styles of the pokemon challenge game mechanics, such as raid battles, tag battles, and tournament battle gimmicks.
    At the rate of how Roy's progress is developing, I have my doubts if he will succeed at catching Rayquaza, since not many trainers seen in the series have been shown to defeat a alpha legendary in a one on one battle. Case and point, Ash never defeated Lugia or Mewtwo, which both have total stats with RayQuaza. Even Goh couldn't catch Mew.
    Its seem the story of horizon is going to end on a glass half full note, with Liko figuring out what she wants to do at the end, and Roy going out to accomplish his dream to be a great adventurer or capture Rayquaza. Though, I sincerly hope Roy does catch Rayquaza.

      Ash and friends didn’t accomplish their goals and there is a good chance we don’t see them again now that they are gone, ash is still not a Pokémon master which imo should of been the title you got for winning the PWC where you could only enter if you are a GL, elite 4 or champion, misty and iris wants to be a water or dragon type master so have them do a water or dragon PWC and have them get over their fear with a water/bug or dragon/ice Pokémon, Tracey got put into oak lab so guess you could say he completed his goal would add that his art goes to a art gallery, Brock isn’t a full fledged doctor with his own Pokémon center unless he wants to be a traveling doctor and he should so get all nurse joy Pokémon from the games, may or dawn hasn’t won a grand festival they should of and then there should totally be a festival for only grand festival winners, clian hasn’t won become the best at his thing, Serena not sure if she is doing contest live and the idol group with lisia or just the idol group should of had a small video of the idol group, clement hasn’t gotten any inventor awards, kiawa isn’t a kahuna yet, Sophocles isn’t a astronaut yet, Lana hasn’t explored the seas and seen manaphy yet, mallow does have food that people and Pokémon love so she completed her goal, Lillie was left with no goal, goh didn’t catch mew should of also got mew z crystal, Chloe said she will be a research fellow on the last ep.
