- The Flagtail Prochilodus (Semaprochilodus Taeniurus) is one of my top ten fish of all time. Not only does this fish look incredible in your aquarium, but this fish also is an amazing algae eater! I've had mine for two years...here's what I learned!

The way its mouth protrudes almost to a pleco extent is just awesome. Definitely an amazing fish 👍🏼🔥
Yes you wouldn't expect it considering that shape of this fish
Yeah that mouth makes it seem like a fancy tinfoil barb that got busy with a kissing gourami
Love ur species profiles man eccpecally how ypu speak from personal experience and honest opinions. Awesome vids like this keep me going in times like this. Keep up the AMAZING work
Thank you, yes for me almost every time I did research on a fish the fish went and contradicted everything I read...so I try to only talk about what I actually witness with my own fish
Great video bro as always! Flagtails are also one of my favorite fish for sure. Finally found one here in Nj earlier this year. He’s growing nicely. Really enjoy your videos man keep up the great work!
Thank you, yes they definitely are a awesome fish!
Tuned right into your vids, as usual brother . Great stuff👌👍💚
Thank you!
thank you so so much, I was looking for this fish for a very long time and now i know its name
Wow, you keep big fishes!
These guys are amazing the one I had kept my tank spotless
Wow, love the money shot @11:45
My favorite fish in my tank!
I have a flagtail, they are amazing looking but also great tank cleaners, always looking for something to clean/eat.
Only negative is when they shit its like a explosion 💣
Lol, yes it is
@@dwsdarius Better than Oscars =)
Just picked 1 up this past evening... I love the tail, I was worried my pike cichlids would harass him but so far so good... I think his calm docile behavior makes them see it as not a threat
Kinda cool, it dosent look like the type of fish that would be an affective cleaner
Yes it definitely caught me by surprise when I first bought this fish
Terrific video.
Thank you!
i have seen a 16 inch one at an lfs and it was huge. it lived in a 500 gallon aquarium with 5 other flagtails , severums , geophagus altifrons , freshwater stingrays and a 16 inch adonis pleco.
That's a beauty of a fish stock
beautiful fish, greetings mate
Thank you!
Great fish!
Thanks!
amazing fish
I picked up a 12" flagtail from someone put him in my 180 tank my favorite fish for sure been shy for a month now but getting better
What’s the fish that looks like a fancy tinfoil barb?
man o man they are some hot fish
HeY DWS! Love your content, inspired by this video i got myself a flagtail, now my kelberi bass is chasing him now and then. Do u have any suggestions how to calm them down
Greattt video Darius!. 🐟 Any new cichlids in the near future?
I have my tank of small veija that I haven't really shown much...but no plans for any more cichlids. Now I'm just focusing on getting them big and colorful
I. NEED....one!!
Nice Video Man
Thank you!
Beautiful fish!! I want one, but my male dovii way toooo agressive.. He's freaking crazy..
Love you tank
Thank you!
well said definitely a fish meant for a 240 or more like a 500. I have 4 in a 275 but they are young but mine also school because the other fish are bigger and more intimidating I would imagine.
Pretty fish, my lfs has a few very tiny ones for sale and a few tinfoil barbs but I don't flunk they tell people how big they get
Thank you!
Good content I just literally got mines 2hrs ago baby 3in 👍🏽
Thank you, that's awesome!
Is there a way to increase the red on their fins? Or does it become more red as they age?
Hey man what you think? one of those flagtails with African cichlids haps and peacocks? In a 150 gallon tank.
Wow, all of your fish look great !
Was just wondering, is it possible that your flagtail is S. Insignis and not S. Taeniurus? I'm not seeing the spotting that the latter maintains as an adult.
Thank you! yes it could be S. insignis....it was sold to me as Taeniurus but now that I compare the 2, it favors insignis a bit more
Is flagtail good with arowana
Hi Can I ask, hope someone answer me. is the Flag Tail Fish, can be keep in a planted aquarium? Thanks thanks
Can we breeed them?
how fast do they grow??
Hey Darius, how long have you had your red tail? I've had 3 of them, not at the same time, but have not had success keeping them with aggressive cichlids. They would be similar in size but ultimately get punked too hard...the growth rate seems alot slower than the average ca and sa cichlids...
I've had mine for 2 years. One thing that helps is growing them all together from young...mine was 3" and at that time my oscar and peacock bass were the same size. The other fish were smaller than the flagtail when I added them. On top of that peacock bass, oscars and most of the fish I keep mine with are not that aggressive...not like central american cichlids like vieja, texas, salvini...they seem to be aggressive towards all tank mates
how do you get your 125g to grow all that nice green algae?
Fish are looking great! They really show better now with the new camera
Thank you! That' tank has a t5 lights with 6500K bulbs...I think that's main reason why that's one of my only tanks that get that type of algae
Use tap water lol
I’ve got 4 of these guys. They grow so slow 😢 they’ve hit the 5 inch mark but look awesome when there 12 inches
Nice! Mine grew rather fast...the first year mine went from 3" to 10"
@@dwsdarius yes. I noticed when I moved mine from the 6ft to the 10ft they grew quite rapidly. My 10 tinfoil have schooled up with my silver dollars. Watch those guys for hours ❤️🐠
Hey where did you get your temensis peacock bass I’ve seen a lot of different ones and your tops all of them
I ordered mine from alotmorefishes off of ebay.
Falgtail is beautiful ❤️❤️❤️. What is the favorite flagtail food.
Thanks, he eats hikari carnivore sticks and grazes on algae for the majority of the day
Would this fish work with tiger barbs? Or Denison barbs?
Yes as long as they are not small enough to be eaten
I can never get that fish to grow above 5 in for some reason.
Because they get stunted in small tanks. I used to grow out iridescent sharks for some people with larger tanks and once those hit 5" I moved them out because they rarely get bigger without a big tank.
Mine started in a 125g at 3", but 4" it was in a 210g, and by 8" it was in a 350g. They like/ need extra space not just to grow but also to be able to graze on as much algae as possible
What is there diet
Mine eat hikari massivore delight and algae wafers daily
Columbia flag tail stays with Oscars ?
Yes they are not aggressive but at the same time they can hold their own against mildly aggressive fish such as oscars and peacock bass
Nice monsters get another aro !
I was just thinking how awesome one would be in this tank
are you saying "Tin Foiley Barb"?
I heard it too. I think he's actually saying 'tin fo-eel barb'.
It's annoying to see these for $15-25 at the store same with the $5 iridescent sharks. They get big for the cost.
Yes I agree...its easier to get monster fish than nano fish these days
Had a 3in Jaguar kill and eat my 5in Flagtail
Aka giant rummy nose tetra
Lol yes it does look like one
Tin foil (FOYL). Only one syllable, friend.
My pleco is absolutely fucking useless bahahhahahahha
