  • The Flagtail Prochilodus (Semaprochilodus Taeniurus) is one of my top ten fish of all time. Not only does this fish look incredible in your aquarium, but this fish also is an amazing algae eater! I've had mine for two years...here's what I learned!

    Wow, all of your fish look great !
    Was just wondering, is it possible that your flagtail is S. Insignis and not S. Taeniurus? I'm not seeing the spotting that the latter maintains as an adult.

    • @dwsdarius
      @dwsdarius  3 года назад

  • @RedHare77
    @RedHare77 3 года назад +1

    Hey Darius, how long have you had your red tail? I've had 3 of them, not at the same time, but have not had success keeping them with aggressive cichlids. They would be similar in size but ultimately get punked too hard...the growth rate seems alot slower than the average ca and sa cichlids...

    • @dwsdarius
      @dwsdarius  3 года назад

      I've had mine for 2 years. One thing that helps is growing them all together from young...mine was 3" and at that time my oscar and peacock bass were the same size. The other fish were smaller than the flagtail when I added them. On top of that peacock bass, oscars and most of the fish I keep mine with are not that aggressive...not like central american cichlids like vieja, texas, salvini...they seem to be aggressive towards all tank mates

    I can never get that fish to grow above 5 in for some reason.

    • @zafishguy5166
      @zafishguy5166 3 года назад

      Because they get stunted in small tanks. I used to grow out iridescent sharks for some people with larger tanks and once those hit 5" I moved them out because they rarely get bigger without a big tank.

    • @dwsdarius
      @dwsdarius  3 года назад

      Mine started in a 125g at 3", but 4" it was in a 210g, and by 8" it was in a 350g. They like/ need extra space not just to grow but also to be able to graze on as much algae as possible
