Crewcabanger606 Vaporwave is a genre that was concocted partially as a joke (lmao let's chop-and-screw '80s R&B hits and see how seriously people will take us). More serious proponents of the genre insist it uses these repurposed and warped songs as a sort of statement on the disposable nature of Western culture brought upon by consumerist post-industrial society, or something similar. It's often downbeat, reverb-y, and lo-fi, like finding the world's last working VHS player in a bombed-out ruin. Future Funk is Vaporwave's hipper, cooler, younger brother who gets invited to all the parties while he stays at home and broods over Nietzsche. It's basically just the same patterns of reverb and lo-fi, but minus the pretense and with a higher BPM and bass-boosted. To simplify a bit, it's House + '80s Pop/J-Pop a e s t h e t i c s. Both genres are wonderful of course. But only one of them is acceptable to play at your average dance hall/house party affair.
@John Grave uh, I think you missed my point completely. I never talked about the price Let me lay down the comment chronology : First guy talked about how back in the day, flying wasn't as cramped as now because it was a new thing and at least in the US, the price is regulated i.e. no such thing as budget flying yet. Second guy said that what they see in the video is most likely first class, using our today standard and I commented at him that for Pan Am back in the 60s, their economy class was pretty famous for being comfortable, nowhere near first class, but absolutely comfortable since passenger weren't being packed like sardine in a can like today. See how we never talked about the fare?
I used to fly on the JAL 747s back on the early 2000s from LAX to Kansai before going to China, while I was only about 3 and barely remember that time, this video gives me a sense of nostalgia that I haven't felt in a very long time.
KillMeWithPotato well not really hottest part was after the soviets shot that Korean airliner down in ‘83. That and Cuba in ‘62. But at this point which was prior to 1983 you’re right as it was quite cool.
Ken narville flights to Moscow were quite common. Western airlines would use Boeing and Airbus aircraft to show off and soviets did the same back with ilyushin and tupolev aircraft. All for show really. But there was a lot of movement between the countries for businesses and tourism and celebrities. I remember a documentary with Joanna Lumley where she said one of her first modelling shows was in the Moscow metro.
It was a time of optimism and the hope that technology could take us into the future. We’ve lost that sense of optimism, I think. People think vaporwave is ironic because of consumerism. But the consumerism of the era was a *symptom* of the optimism. Vaporwave makes me long for a time that wasn’t marked by rampant division and cynicism (at least in the West).
