    This song was originally built around artificial nostalgia but it really hits different after 10 years and is now real nostalgia.

      @@dasit6034 But for those of us who weren't alive yet to actually experience those days, the nostalgia is artificial (Or it was before the song became a decade old). And that nostalgia for a time we didn't live in is a staple of vaporwave for many

      I thought "artificial nostalgia" was perfect. The artists creating *-wave music were born 1990 or later.. It's "artificial" because you feel nostalgic despite not recognizing the exact samples or commercials.

    As a Japanese, first I discovered these kind of songs was when my classmate (who was an American exchange student) asked me if I was familiar with the commercials on these videos. Funny enough, I asked who was the artist singing and he said it was a guy mashing up old songs and beats. I got curious and we went down to a rabbit hole of artists doing the same kind of music like this. Its really amazing. I enjoyed this kind of music genre now and it’s really cool to see them utilize older Japanese commercials to visualize the kind of music they created.

      These vaporwave songs are resemblances of the 1980-90s eras where people were enjoying carefree life without worries, particularly it was the time where everyone got access to goods and exotic technology from Japan. At that time, some people in the US were worried that the Japanese would take over the world by buying out American corporations (proto-economic globalization), but it all ended when the Japanese stock market crashed in the early 1990s. Fast forward to the late 1990s, people still had this carefree feeling but it also ended when the planes hit the twin towers. 9/11 did not just end the feeling we once had, but it also ended the future of a utopian electric interconnected world. Now watching these videos, it's kinda nostalgic for me because I grew up seeing these sorts of blurry commercials with reverb sounds. it's like a future-past.

    It’s so bizarre yet it makes so much sense, that an artist from Brooklyn can make a song, then a guy completely unknown can make a video of old Japanese commercials and combine the two to make piece of art. With an aesthetic that we all can enjoy an atmosphere that makes us feel good. All deriving from promising commercials and good jams sampled from an 80s track called pillow talking. So simple it all really is but that’s where it gets complex. Absolutely amazing I’ll always come back to this something like this. It is An Art

    A lot of Saint Pepsi's music ( and a lot of other vaporwave/future funk tracks) combined with the videos always give off a carefree and slightly nostalgic vibe. It's just people having fun. Listening to these songs make you want to live in a permanently dark city with the mesmerising flash of neon packing the scenery. They make you think about romance and business, giant skyscrapers, summer beach resorts, and video games, movies, TV and books and arcades and they make you think about being free and not having a care in the world. Have fun, baby!

    for all the people who never lived life before the internet, the "weird" nostalgia you felt was a longing for the past's hope of the future.
    years later it feels nostalgic in a different way, nostalgic for a time where you never thought the future would be like this
    this genre perfectly encapsulates the feeling of life's mystery before the internet came around. almost like that feeling when you still believed in magic

      The track "Chinese Dance" by Macintosh Plus captures this feeling with its dreamy, ethereal sounds and samples. As the song progresses, it evokes a sense of longing and reflection on the past, causing the listener to contemplate the passage of time and the impermanence of life. The haunting melodies and distorted vocals create a sense of melancholy, but also a sense of acceptance and peace with the inevitable passage of time. It is a reminder to cherish the present moment and appreciate the fleeting beauty that surrounds us.

    it's nostalgia for a future that never happened, will never happen, it's why vaporwave has a "retro-futuristic" aesthetic. The video clips are all made completely of ads, ads that want to sell you what life is like and will be like or could be like. But now decades after we see how none of our lives really even echo any of it. It's a lament over the dream capitalism sold us when we were kids and watching TV and how it's faded unattainable qualities have made it beautiful.

      That's a laugh. This is my past. Pleasant back then but it was always elemental (EDIT: ephemeral). The present celebrates nothing but junk and destroys what was good for its time so they can pretend we were brainwashed. I've heard their bunk for decades. It's never changed. It's envy as art, it's disgust remaking the world in its own image. It's easy to ignore.

      Exactly my dude. Nothing new under the sun, I like that phrase. It's all about finding your place. People in the 70s thought they got the same bum deal that we think we got when they looked back on the 60s, but just like us, they were only seeing the best parts with their rosy tinted glasses. All about finding your place.
      All about leaving pretentious comments on youtube too, but that's my place.

    Found this back in 2016 when I was going through a very rough period in my life. Winner's Circle, Late Night Delight and the rest of Saint Pepsi's discography became part of my daily soundtrack at the time and they still are. I know these songs are just looped and slowed down samples but they hold a very special place in my heart, thank you Saint Pepsi.

It's great to hear that Saint Pepsi's music has been able to provide you with comfort and solace during that period. Music truly has a way of speaking to our souls and helping us through tough moments. Thank you for sharing your story, and may the music continue to bring you joy and positivity.

    • @colorchameleon8823
      @colorchameleon8823 6 лет назад +31

      no vaporwave is not right wing. vaporwave is a cynical, somber reflection on the acquiescence to consumerist and capitalist culture that took place in this era. if you listen to vaporwave and think "golly gee I sure love this soulless corporate music and CONSUME advertisements, wish we could go through that again!" you're completely missing the point of the music. the era we are living through now is the consequential progression of that era. consumerist culture has, pun intended, consumed us, and we sat there drinking pepsi and watching TV as it happened.
      and if "racism and oppression" sound "awesome" to you, you should consult a therapist.

    This song plays the right note. How can one be nostalgic for 80s bubble japan when they were born nowhere near the era? I know it's a fan video but it is absolutely perfect . God damn I love the analog electronics juxtaposed with models. Does such a paradise exist?

    • @PoisonelleMisty4311
      @PoisonelleMisty4311 3 месяца назад

      The nostalgia for the 80s bubble Japan era can be a result of being drawn to the aesthetics and culture of that time period. Even if someone was not born during that era, they can still appreciate and feel nostalgic for it through media, music, and fashion. The combination of analog electronics and models in the video creates a nostalgic and visually appealing aesthetic that resonates with many people. While such a paradise may not exist in reality, the fantasy and nostalgia for that era can be a source of inspiration and enjoyment for fans.
