✍ The visibility and influence of Polish artist Zdzisław Beksiński has escalated at a meteoric pace since the turn of the century, becoming the biggest artistic reference in horror video games, along with H.R. Giger.
The original architectural design and the distinctive textures of his nightmarish, desolate and ultra-detailed landscapes fit perfectly with the open-world setting of soul-like action games or infernal walking simulators. Beksiński's influence ranges from indie to AAA games: Returnal, Scorn, The Medium, Tormentum, Castlevania and many others that you will find in this video.

Scorn is perfect!
The beautiful mix of Zdzisław and Giger~
I love how so many of the games are doing more than just recreating specific paintings, and are evoking a the decayed, existential mood of Beksinski's art. Scorn looks the most Beksinski-esque, and Mortal Shell looks so beautiful.
Scorn is released this month, hype is high after so many years of development. I hope they do a VR port, just to be able to walk for hours in that world.
While Giger's works are a world of nightmarish sexuality, Beksinsky's showcase decay and 'what once was great'. In this way, they both are one side of the same coin. Giger's is the violence of sex; of creation. Beksinsky's is the decay of death, entropy, the end.
Excellent
And Scorn is the game that embodied of those meaning
One of my favourite artists.
Giger - Beksinski - Mark Ryden. Holy Trinity
Amazing Zdzislaw + H.R Giger is the perfect combo for nightmare fuel, oh also these red rooms at 5:02 are most likely inspired by the art style of Suguru Tanaka
love the vibe he got going definitely close up there with the other aforementioned nightmare artists.
I was totally unaware of Suguru Tanaka, thank you, he's awesome, and yes, his art is incredibly similar to that part of Necrophosis.
Inner Chains is underrated, IMHO.
Mass Effect made it into this list from the ilos world, wow.
Great compilation, some of these games I had never heard of but are right on the money.
I've never played The Medium but I'm interested now. That looks like it's straight out of one of his paintings
Honorable mention for H.R. Giger for upcoming game Scorn
It is remarkable how, being such different styles, Giger and Beksinski almost always appear together in the aesthetics of these video games and the designers succeed in mixing both styles so well.
Fuck Plauge Tale really did remind me of Beksinski a few times with their overgrown buildings
many thx for inspiring for some Games are Demos available for loading from Steam: "Tormentum-Dark Sorrow" "Lust from Beyound" "Necrophosis" "Unholy"
Path of Exile's "undying outcast" monster is literally the creature with bandaged head from Beksinski's painting.
Oh yes, right :D
Here because Necrophosis demo is out!
Missing the tombstones in the Nightmare Frontier of Bloodborne
Yes, I was about to add Demon's Souls, Dark Souls and Bloodborne, but I didn't find specific parts explicitly reminiscent of Beksinski, even though the artist's influence is evident in all of them.
Gracias Buk!
Please tell me where I can find this music
Don't know, it's probably ripped on the internet, but it would be hard to find. The album Inthecentre by Shine was the first CD I ever bought in my life, it was many years ago, from Germany. It's the music H.R. Giger was listening to while he was doing the paintings from Poltergeist II.
Thank you!
¡Gracias!
Muchas gracias Letavia! :D
The Medium and Mr. Zdzisław Beksiński brought me here..
Very cool, just wish I knew how to pronouce that name
hahaha, I had to use Google phonetic translator in Polish, and not even listening to it 10 times, it is impossible.
Don't worry too much about being phonetically accurate. Think of it like zuh-DJISS-swov, the ł is a /w/ sound whereas the w is a /v/, kinda weird historical quirk

Dark souls 3??
