  • Mathematicians don't retire. How can they? They can't just stop thinking about mathematics, especially as there is so much they don't know. The light is still in their eyes, as one of the leading analytic number theorists of recent years, Roger Heath-Brown (doctoral supervisor of Fields Medallist James Maynard), visibly demonstrates in our last 'Show Me the Maths' film.
You can learn more about Roger's influential work here: www.maths.ox.a...

Dear Dr. Roger help me, please. I am Noé Ricardo Arellano Velázquez Bachelor in Physics and Mathematics, member of the Swiss Mathematical Society .I have published formulas at Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology, I discovered when I was a student, downloaded from Yale university, university of Toronto, university of Adelaide, Norwegian University of Science and Technology and more; Germany, England, Serbia, Russia, France and more. Since many years I have sent many emails to Mexican Universities applying for a job as a teacher at career of Physics and math, but they don't reply. I sent emails to newspapers excelsior, el universal, la jornada, proceso magazine, tvazteca and televisa for they expose my complain and didn't reply either. I live in Guanajusto State, Mexico. Nobody helps me. Thanks.

I love that people get paid to work on stuff like this. My knowledge of mathematics extends as far as business maths but I appreciate people who are able to work on advancing the knowledge of the human race. Besides, you never know what practical applications people might find later. I have read about the short, brilliant life of Evariste Galois and have decided he was probably one of the coolest people who ever lived.

Is there any one who can help solve this problem, even my teacher is having problem with it , “given that h(x)=integral of ((f’(x)x-f(x))/x^2) , where 2h(2)=f(2)+4 and f(-1)=5 , what is the value of h’(-1) ?
There are some steps that i have done, h(x)=f(x)/x+C and i found the value of C which is 2, thus h(x)=f(x)/x+2 and h(-1)=-3 , now how can i find the value of h’(-1) ?
    Appreciate your help

@@wanyekivincent2883 actually I didn’t because no matter how i tried there was no way i could find an answer given current info, the question is from a teacher and he had wrote “very difficult” on it so i thought maybe i’m not seeing something but i checked in with some other teachers and professors they all said it is missing something, is it the same case with you?

@@AlanNajat09 yeah I've found it very undoable. I only got as far as you did.
      It's definitely missing something
Only result: h'(-1) =-f(-1) -5. The only way to go past that is to guess possible functions that satisfy f(-1)=5

I find it totally fascinating and I wish to this Professor to discover further. Maybe this 5/6 is a particular instance of something else. I could not find any visual representation of that equation so I imagine it as a node on a rope made of twisted fibres.
Last, but not least, I wish him to not be put off by any form of AI and continue to have fun with pen on paper and chalk on board.

If you're going to do a video based on an academic paper, wouldn't it make more sense to have the visual illustrate the content of the paper rather than some geezer talking about it?
If you wanted to use the video merely to convey the content, Roman letters are much faster than geezers' voices. If that were what you wanted to do, you'd just roll the script on the screen, shurely?
    Feh! Nonsense video du jour!

    • @TheDavidlloydjones
      @TheDavidlloydjones 3 месяца назад +1

Put differently, the implicit claim of the header, "Show Me The Math," is a lie. No math is shown.
Some old geezer is shown talking.

I really don't like how dismissive you are by talking about "some old geezer talking." It's unnecessarily insulting to the person on-camera and the intent of the creators of the video.
I love it when the scientists themselves can be seen and heard to be talking about their work. A matter of taste, I suppose.
But apart from opinion based on personal taste, an opinion which of course you're entitled to, I don't think it's reasonable to be so harsh about it.

Maybe look for an app that does the same thing. If you didn't understand it, that's not his problem. It was in plain English, and the algebra was on the screen. Hit the pause button if necessary.
