Great videos chris .I live in Cardiff down the coast a little, and have always been interested in the Severn and Bristol Channel ,love Lydney and Gloucester and that generall area keep up the good work mate
I lived at Sharpness for a decade and was always impressed by the skill and accurate seamanship of pilots and masters entering and leaving port. For years I was a port agent in Southampton and elsewhere so I’m wondering why this vessel is flying the Union Flag as a courtesy and not the correct Red Ensign. I’ve noticed this lapse of etiquette several times here and in East Anglian ports - always amongst short-sea freighters.
Handling a Coracle on a local pond, will start the process, of what it means, to go down to the Sea in boats, it's either a calling, or a skill, I think long-time sailors, know, the difference,
Just seen this…. Great work and excellent commentary. Our pilots are much under appreciated. 😎👍
Top shelf once again. Thank you!
Another brilliant video Chris , thank you. Keep up the good work .

Thanks Simon, much appreciated
Very impressive handling skills.
Agreed, but accidents do happen, thank goodness very rarely.
It would have been interesting to know the purpose of the ships' visits and the tidal window which dictated the opening duration of Sharpness gates.

Hi Mike, yes, flags, I have noticed it is more common these days to fly the Union Flag and not the Red Ensign. Standards to day are suspect!
My dad worked on the dock for 30 years. Ken Heeps
Loved the film what a surprise seeing monika muller, ( now rix partner) she's not been back to the uk for a long time, cheers
Thanks Paul, yes we miss the Mullers at Sharpness.

Swinging the ship 360°? One full turn?
I know, I am useless with degrees and numbers!!
Bow thrusters have made tugs redundant...
Grain from Russia? The ship has the Port of St Petersburg painted on it?
What about international sanctions on Russia?
Filmed 10 years ago
@@paulwilliams3494 OK.
Hi Trevor, no sanctions then as this was filmed a few years ago.
@ChrisWitts OK, thanks, Chris.
