Very cool❤ I’ll definitely try to implement this! How would you suggest someone find more chords to branch out from a starting chord. For example, if i started with a Bmaj7, how would i know where do go in the chord progression from there? Also, how do you keep yourself grounded when thinking of your music, because i always think of something good, then i keep trying to make it better and better until it goes off the rails. Fantastic and informaive video❤🎉❤
Thanks for watching! A lot of the time I will either think of a really common chord progression and then change 1 chord or add a chord that wasn’t there. That usually makes the texture different while not being too crazy. The other approach I usually do is I will start with a chord and just mess around with moving fingers in my instrument. A lot of the time I will find a sound I like and figure out the exact chords later. For keeping it grounded, i tend to think less is more. If you have a good idea, fill that idea out into an A and a B section. That’s Al you really need for a song! Anything else added needs to be justified in some way. A lot of the time I’ll write narratively and have as many verses I need to finish the story. Hope that helps!

@@therealalexpoole thanks! Ill be sure to try out these techniques!
Another question😅, how can i know what chords align and sound best with the fingerpicking tab i have thought of
If you’ve already got the tab you just need to figure out what notes you’re playing and see what chords all those notes fit into!
@@therealalexpoole oh got it. Good to know!
