I used to be a guitarist primarily focused on playing metal but lifestyle kind of restricts my playing to acoustic stuff these days. After a 2 year break, I decided to start learning how to finger pick and make it a dominant part of my playing. In the last couple of months I've mastered Big Love (live version), Landslide, Jolene, and Never Going Back Again (incl the live solo) Feels great to be back playing guitar again and really enjoying learning this finger style stuff! Some great inspiration in this video to learn more.

I’m typically more of fast/shred type guitar player but man was that Zep riff great. I love that stuff and that’s one of my all time favorite riffs. He totally killed it.
gosh i love his little mistakes every once in a while. it makes me mend a personal connection with him. it reminds me that he's a person, not just someone on my screen
I love your channel Paul. I just enjoy your playing so much. I'm a brand new learner at 63, but I find it to be so much fun. Thanks for being there to inspire someone like me. Connie
I've watched a lot of your stuff Paul. It's both inspiring and intimidating to watch you show your talent. I thought I'd finally say hi and pay my respects to your work. Totally awesome man.
It is impressive to see how much your playing and video crafting have improved in the four and a half years since this video came out. You were already at a high level in 2017 and have clearly kept working to hone your skills. Really top tier RUclips content! Thank you so much.
This video series made me subscribe. I love the feeling that fingerstyle gives over a plain pick, and you helped shine a light on the best collection of songs throughout the years that give me that feeling. Wonderful job, sir.
Love seeing One Sunday Morning in the list. I saw them a few years ago at Red Rocks in Colorado (and many times since). They opened the show with One Sunday Morning, the sunset brilliantly lighting up the amphitheater. It was surreal. Such a gorgeous song, and a fun one to play, too!
Such an inspiration. This is the stuff that makes me want to pick up my guitar and learn more, even after 16 years of playing and even if I'm insanely jealous of your Martin guitar!
man, I love learning from you. your demeanor, calm tone to your voice, tis extremely approachable. I especially how the flow of your videos go. you can tell sometimes where the video editing cuts are, but they make the eb and flow extremely clean and crisp as a presentation! love your videos!!!
My favourite guitar channel... just looking through some past videos for inspiration, can’t wait to try some of these out! I love fingerpicking songs so much
There are some great fingerstyle players out there, but I often find they get a bit samey after a while. One fingerstyle player whom I never seem to get bored of and, in my opinion, has one of the best right hands in the business, plus an amazing understanding of what the guitar can achieve, sometimes with the simplest of melodies is the mighty Bruce Cockburn. Combined with his peerless lyrics he remains one of the top singer songwriters on the planet, but also a truly consummate player. Thanks for such a great channel Paul. Your production values and playing are superb.
Dropping in from 2023 it seems cute that you found reaching 300.000 subscribers AWESOME given you are deservedly on 3.16 million now. I love seeing the same passion and infectious enthusiasm has been there throughout. The editing and style has evolved perfectly. In this video the content is inspiring, but the jump cuts are jarring; in 2023 the videos are mellow and enticing like a warm bath. I just hope my abilities with the guitar evolve in the same manner.
My favorite Blues artist ever ( and forever) is Rory Gallagher. Well known for his battered strat energically played, he also played finger style: you may try "out on the western plain" country style at a fast tempo.
Another delight indeed!! Awesome tutorials. I would love to see some of the mind blowing stuff from Bruce Cockburn like Wondering where the lions are, Foxglove, Sunwheel Dance, Sunrise on the Mississippi, All the Diamonds, Rouler Sa Bosse, Pacing the cage.... to name a few. Paul's skill and method would no doubt do justice to these stirring and challenging tunes.
Paul I just wanted to say I love your videos and instruction. You are straight forward about your playing and it's not hard to follow the songs you teach. Keep the videos coming because they are awesome.
you probably found it by now but this is the closest one to the original that i found with all the little licks and details: tabs.ultimate-guitar.com/tab/gavin-james/nervous-tabs-2150291
but songs like these are most confusing with just tabs, really need to play around with fingerpicking within the chords, and gavin plays it a little different in his live videos

So glad to see the Tallest Man on Earth getting some love! His songs are the most fun to play I swear!
The strumming part of babe I’m gonna leave you is flamenco Paul. Lol your an amazing talent but I’ve been nailing that song for 25years.
Thank you so much for acknowledging Buckingham and Knopfler, two of the most underrated players of all time.
Who would ever say Knopfler is underrated?
Knopfler? Underrated? Whut
Knopfler isn't really underrated, Buckingham probably is though
Hi there. Im building a channel 2 you might find intresting. ruclips.net/video/u-SKYkRYDew/видео.html
There is something deeply beautiful about the way you play.
Love that you played the tallest man on earth, that man is a straight up genius!
Paul some people play the guitar, but you make it sing.

The fact that you played Fragile... Makes this awesome
Paul -I really like your videos your commentary -everything is always well polished ,professional and useful
And you are a really great player
I love Paul's soothing voice and quality content. Someday I hope to play as well as him
If you like Dire Straits you should check out Mark Knopfler's newer stuff. Heart of Oak is a great fingerstyle song.

I still remember when I first heard Big Love by Fleetwood Mac, I listened to it on repeat for hours, it was totally mind dropping!
Everything about this guy is a class.
I love how you love John Mayer and call yourself a fan boy. You always include him on your lists. Makes my day!!
He makes it look soooo simple…….but we all know better. Go Paul!

big love sounds amazing! spent 2 full hours trying just to get the rhytm right but finally seeing the fruits of my practice
Beginner in theory here. I think the first song goes like this: G, Bm, Faug, C/E, C, G, D, Dsus2 (I, ii, VII+, IV(6), I, V, Vsus2)
Close. The Faug should be either G7/F or a sort of F6sus2.
Nice, thanks! Learning a lot from your videos.
