As a GIANT Madō Monogatari fan I can confirm that I always hear that "Mean Bean machine is more fun that Puyo Puyo" on discord. Getting used to it, but I am still sad that they just won't listen to me and always say: "But mean bean machine is more fun!"
you should stop being with these people if they going to put down Puyo Puyo, it's a dumb reskin that's based on aosth dr robotnik, it's not even based on the classic sonic mega drive games and sonic is not even in it, I find it a very meh water down version of puyo puyo
I'm personally a Kirby's Avalanche guy, since that's the version of Puyo Puyo that I personally grew up with and loved. I have bought both Puyo Puyo Tetris 1 and 2. Never got around to finishing either's story mode though. Just not as good at Puyo Puyo as I was as a kid, sadly. But I still love the gameplay and may have to get back into them soon after watching some videos on it. I have similar feelings with Panel de Pon/Puzzle League. Grew up with Pokemon Puzzle League (never got Tetris Attack as a kid so imagine my surprise when I find out later in life that it's just Puzzle League with a yoshi skin and not, y'know, Tetris lol ) and loved the Hell outta it. I really wish Nintendo would pay the series more attention. I wanna say the last game was a DS game that basically had 0 personality to it and so... Kinda sucked... I mean, it still had the great puzzle league gameplay, but a little bit of charm can go a long way. Maybe next time Puyo Puyo can cross over with Panel De Pon. I'd gladly buy that.
Yeah, Puyo Puyo still is very underrated outside of JP, for Nintendo fanboys, we have Panel de Pon, who suffered the same fate as this franchise (got reskinned and cancel to death), and died on the dsi sadly :,(
I’ve been trying to get into Puyo Puyo and it’s been fun but seeing the Sonic fanbase saying that Mean Bean is better than Puyo Puyo is ridiculous since It’s just a reskin of Puyo Puyo 1.
It’s also weird that people prefer Mean Bean Machine over the Mega Drive Puyo Puyo when Mean Bean Machine removed three stages and the Sound Test. All it really has going for it compared to Puyo Puyo is the password system and (in my opinion) an improved soundbank.
Many Puyo-related videos' comments: "Mean Bean Machine ripoff" People who say this sure need to research about Puyo Puyo and Mean Bean. There's many reasons of why Puyo Puyo couldn't be a ripoff: 1. OPP released first; 2. Puyo Puyo got many sequels and spin-offs. Mean Bean didn't.
They probably say it's more fun because of a nostalgic factor from back in the day but hey, I wasn't around in the 90s so I can't say. And the original Puyo stuff has ALOT more variety than Mean Bean Machine where it literally just has the Sonic cartoon characters
I remember playing mean bean machine due to me being a big sonic fan and I later then discovered that it was a reskin of another game , I originally didn’t had interest in the original puyo because it was japanese and I can’t understand it That was until I tried Tsu on the Nintendo Switch SNES online, and I loved it, was very hard to me at first but then I started to play more and now I’m trying to complete puyo tetris I learned to surpass the language barrier and try out something new and I’m totally satisfied of knowing the Puyo Puyo Franchise (Sorry for the bad english, I’m not a English native speaker)
I found Puyo Puyo from Kirby's Avalanche and played it from that point on. Just recently, I started playing Puyo Puyo again along with other puzzle games.
I watched Johnny Vector's video on Dr. Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine. As a Puyo fan, I was quite annoyed and infuriated, and Johnny Vector came across as someone who knows NOTHING about Puyo Puyo.
In all honesty, that video did inspire me to make this video lol. Although, it’s best not to get mad over someone like that, the way to combat ignorance is to massage the topic into them, which is what I try to do with Puyo Puyo.
dr. mean bean machine is a grest reskin if there's any reskin ever because mixing the concrete humor of the original puyo puyo with the silliness of AOSTH (the show that MBM is based off) created something in my opinion that benefits the identity of the mere sega genesis marketing and the sonic franchise. i'm a big sonic fan admittedly and to hear that people find preference on mean bean machine than the first puyo puyo game is a matter of simple preference (and something some people say when they don't actually play the game but look at pictures and footage). to call the game better than all of the puyo franchise is like saying blindly that super mario 64 is the last mario game with soul. the truth is that some people arent bothered to look beyond the scope of the mainstream, and it merits out that the puyo franchise settles beneath the deal where real corporate structure is happening with stuff like sonic, but the fanbase is so concisely big sega doesn't know what it wants. puyo puyo is under everything, it's not the biggest franchise but it's a relatively calm and very enjoyable one when you enjoy one simple concept. to take bean machine into a stance of superiority amongst all other games in the world with the same playstyle is a preference but you might as well dive your toes into the decision to crave coporate western saturation, something the 90s suffered from. i haven't played the original puyo puyo games yet but they're on my bucketlist and i think they're interesting
@@EpicFurbynerd76YOPreferring Mean Bean's art style and characters is fine, but that doesn't take away from the fact that future Puyo games would refine the gameplay of Puyo Puyo 1/Mean Bean.
At 1:46 okay, what happened? I've seen Puyo games with giant Puyos like that, but never ones which just decimate the center of the board and then leave. Which Puyo game is this? It looks like Tsu but I've never seen this mechanic.
I'd argue Avalanche doesn't have nearly as much cultural relevance and a fan following as Mean Bean Machine. Most Kirby fans I've seen just consider it a strange but fun footnote in Kirby's library, but nothing particularly memorable or beloved. And I've *never* heard anyone proclaim Avalanche is superior to Puyo as a whole.

This. I can wholeheartedly agree with this. Plus, the Sonic reskin just takes out the uniqueness of Puyo, especially nowadays.
Nah, MBM was dope even if it was a reskin.

Wdym 3 stages? Both games have 13 stages
@@nuggetpotato5471 I’m referring to the tutorial stages. Mean Bean Machine doesn’t have those.
This was a nice watch as someone who's admired the series for 6 years now. If only Sega treated this franchise better back in the 2000's...
