@@inmotion1661 Once you include the extra fee the price is a few hundred more than the competitors, but it looks like it is competitively priced with other software (non-tether) based systems. I like the look of your solution but just not sure $800 - $900 is worth it compared to $600 for the Helite tethered system.
A subscription-based payment model for a physical piece of lifesaving safety equipment is incredibly stupid, and I would argue it's totally unethical.
I shouldn't have to pay a "licensing fee" or a monthly fee to keep a safety vest I physically purchased working. It's effectively extortion.
Imagine if car airbags only worked if the lease/financing payments were up to date.
For clarification this isn't your fault, RevZilla. I'm mad at the company that's making this. Klim should've just added the one-time licensing cost to the vest when it's sold rather than asking consumers to pay a subscription or activation fee.

I think revzilla is wrong - as I read it at the klim site, you have 2 options:
Buy it outright for a fair price
OR
Lease for $12/month with the option to stop and renew with the riding season, and then get a new bag after 3 years.
I've actually studied the system quite closely. First thing to know ! it’s possible to buy the complete system as a classic purchase. In this case, the price is 400$ for a vest and 400$ for the electronic part (total 800).
With this solution you have unlimited updates and 2 years warranty.
Regarding now the leasing options, the first advantage is that you have lower monthly (12$) or annual (120$) payments, This gives you the opportunity to wear a better airbag which you might not be able to buy in one go.
You are totally free, if you are not riding in the coming month, you can easily cancel your subscription. You also have premium services included, with unlimited warranty, which can come in quite handy for a security and electronic product, and even more when you compare this to the poor customer service from italian brands. Another thing to note is that you don't need to pay the subscription for your whole life. After 3 years, you can choose the buying option (100$) and become a full owner.
Even if I find the scheme very interesting, I did not choose this airbag because of that.
The main reasons were firstly for the comfort (did you try the others ? no way I can wear one of them all day).
Then the protection (neck and spine are covered, which is not the case with the tech air or dainese).
Also the possibility to recharge the system yourself for 100$ (vs 250$ by dainese or Alpi)
And finally, on the global performance of the system and the continuous updates (In&motion seems to have a big head start... as track and off road mode and the emergency call are already available in Europe).

i agree. if the automobile industry pulled something like this for safety features of a car they would be sitting in front of the supreme court. it's borderline criminal. they should just offer it at full price and take the money. just go for Helite. you dont need to charge it. it's competitive in pricing, and you dont have to worry about apps, cpu chips, or batteries failing..

How do you figure? It likely has in the ToS that the sub has to be maintained or the person will not get the full protection "in the event of a crash." Still a stupid fucking design, sounds like pay to play which is fucked up for bike airbags.

We let several weeks with notifications and emails before disabeling the protection. The protection is never disabled while riding.

You're asking for at least 1/4 of the price more for a product that, even if it has a bigger data base, in a real world situation, does the exact same thing that premium brands offer for considerably less money. A bigger data base doesn't necessarily reflect on a better product. Besides, for what I could gather, most other airbags that are related to you are considerably cheaper, sometimes by more than half the price. So, unless you're saying this product is twice as safe as those, it makes even less sense to go with this one. Sorry, just comes across as pure greed.

Having the biggest quantity of data is, fully agree, not a guarantee to have the best system but it's a key "raw material" for our data scientists to train and fine tune the detection strategies. Then, we are the biggest team of scientists and engineers fully dedicated on wearable airbags, so at the end, not the cheapest product but the best.

It kind of is, but also isn't at the same time - I have a Helite Adventure Jacket and will be buying this for the tetherless feature. (Plus, it'll do racing soon.) My major gripe with other airbags is that they cover chest/back but forget about your neck. Does no good if you break your neck on impact, even if you have a good helmet, you know? Advantage over tether too is that it'll deploy without the cable, meaning you'll be covered in a low side. Downside is subscription but you can cancel it on your off-riding months from what I've heard. Pros and cons.

You know what good that data base is if for any reasons a payment is delayed or canceled? Or if the battery dies, or if an update was fucked up (bugs can happen all the time), or if an update never happened etc.
A safety gear like this one should be simple as a stick, no fancy gadgets in it that will surely break sooner or later, despite the double/triple price of anything safer alternative on the market! This is just plain stupid!
Now this technology might be perfect on the track, where all circumstances are controlled to the max, but in real life situations, on mountain twisties and non metropolitan locations this technology will be as useless as hairdryer on the bottom of a swimming pool!
So, after reading @In&motion reply somewhere in the comments, it ends up being the same as if you were to buy one of the other, more expensive brands. The end result is the same $800, but for better technology. KLIM is just making it easier for those of us who cannot afford to fork out the $800 up front, to purchase something just as good or better. I mean, if you're gonna go with the one time payment up front anyway to avoid the subscription fee, and you can afford to do so, then good for you. But don't knock a product simply over a subscription fee you don't like. Putting the subscription and fee aside, does this product protect more, less, better or worse than the others? THAT is what we should be concerned about and THAT is what reviews are for.
The fact that you SHOULD send the vest in to have it checked after 3 deployment is great... They're just double checking the integrity for your safety. Helmets cost more and are NOT RECOMMENDED and DO NOT guarantee safety after just ONE crash.
I'm a HUGE Dainese fan... All I wear is Dainese. However, I believe the Dainese D-Air vest must be sent in after EVERY SINGLE DEPLOYMENT and costs somewhere up to $200 to reactivate each time. With Klim, you get 3 deployments before needing an inspection or refill. That's an even better selling point for me than the fact that it is tetherless, just like the Dainese, but without the steep reactivation fees... For someone who doesn't want to be tethered in the first place, this is huge!
Not everyone can afford really good gear, leathers or even an air vest to begin with. But for those of us who can, the monthly subscription shouldn't be a big deal in terms of cost, especially when it comes to protecting your life.
Car manufacturers don't charge for their airbags, this is true, but you're also in a cage with a steering wheel in front of you and you don't have a choice but to sit there and pray you didn't miss a recall notice for your airbag that may or may not save your life. Besides, there have been many cases where the airbag kills the driver, not the accident itself... how many cases have you heard of someone getting hurt while wearing an air vest... not as many.

Why all the updates? You would like to think the software is where it should be when you buy the jacket. No way i'd comfortably wear this without feeling like a crash-test dummy just so they get the software right.
In Klim's defense on the updates, the same concept goes for the Alpinestars and the Dainese airbag systems. They all require occasional firmware updates that help them perform better. Similar to how smart phones require an update every now and then, its not because they didn't work before but just so they can work better moving forward. - Pat

@@RevZilla The whole updating of a life-saving vest "so that it works better" actually makes one (me, at least) more concerned about the original purchase than one should be. Did they not make the best airbag they could the first time? What if the "update" was buggy - could it then make an otherwise ok system unsafe? Raises more questions and doubt than such a system should in a rider's mind. Oh, and its ridiculous that any company would expect people to "subscribe" at more cost after purchase in order to have your safety "enabled". BTW, my vitriol is aimed at Klim. Love Revzilla.
In the subscription plan (rent) the price of the rental of the In&box is included.

I mean how you build that AMAZING database of yours of 10k real motorcyclist on track and on street uh? tell me that your company actually hired that number of ppl for do in house testing and ill blow you lol. Lets be real, some1 in the comment said it best: on top of paying a sub fee your also using us (the users) as testers (Q.E.).
The price of the product prob already high enough as is, make things right and remove that sub fee or at the VERY LEAST make it optional, or better, if you taking our usage data make it so people who agree to that to get the updates for free. (although to be honest I still believe said updates should be for free ALWAYS as it's attach to the safety of the product)
So if I buy this with an expectation of getting 10 years out of it (a fair assumption) and I want to keep it up to date, it’s going to cost me $400 + $12p/m for 10 years (=$1440) $1840 for a vest. No thanks.
That's only if they continue support for that model, which most likely they will come out with a new one within 3-4 yrs and you will need to buy a new one for 400 or more bucks. I would also bet that there is a time limit on the "structural integrity" of it as well, like the 5yr old helmet rule.
After 3 years, you can buy the In&box and stop the lease.

@@Bredaxe I'm looking at an airbag vest now. I don't find the subscription that much of a problem or you just pay for the unlimited lifetime sub for $400. For a total of $800, it's in line with the other vests. The Dainese and Alpinestars are outrageous at $250-300 for canister replacement that you have to send to them. Helite is the only cheaper one but it's tether only, for now, and we don't know how well their electronic version will do. Also, theirs is outside of the jacket, which doesn't look as good but it definitely looks to be the best for safety.

In fairness to Klim on this one, you need to be connecting to a Wifi that you previously approved the unit to connect with. So it won't just hop on a public wifi but if you get hit in your driveway, that might be something to consider. However, you can turn this feature off if you are afraid of that type of scenario. - Pat

Need to save this for April 1. This is total BS
Hit-Air vest for me. 529 on amz , great reflectivity, neck support, tailbone protection, made in Japan and used by their police. No electronics to have a fit when you crash, no batteries, no updates, no subscriptions (seriously Klim?). It has a tether and the CO2 canisters are about 40 dollars each. Never deployed, but always wear it when riding over my jacket. Have tried to walk off the bike MULTIPLE times without disconnecting it and it never went off (takes a little time to get the routine). I've been using it for 2 years / 15k miles and I'm very happy with it.
The detection and inflation time of tethered systems is much higher. In some accidents as collisions, tethered systems may be deployed too late
So basically this is approx. a $840 dollar vest, $140 more than the Dainese. What am I getting for that price difference? Does this one deploy in a crash when I'm not moving (red light scenario)? How bout neck protection, which the Dainese doesn't really have?

The Dainese Smart Jacket doesn't have neck protection.
Supertone The dainese will deploy if a car rear ends you as it detects the vibrations of the engine. It won’t protect you when stationary if you are driving an electric bike.

Klim needs to rethink their collaboration agreements. Why in the world would anyone purchase an airbag vest that does not function without a yearly subscription? It doesn't make sense.
The subscription service is there purely to bring the initial outlay down. You can pay for it outright at the start if you want.
How reliable is it? Can you rely on the technology over the mechanics of the corded airbags?

I wonder if the subscription model is a money grab or if they sell the unit at a loss/small margin and then make up the rest through subscription fees. Either way, I wouldn't want to be paying a subscription fee to have a piece of protective equipment work properly.

I don't understand why everyone is hating on the subscription model. They made this the cheapest non-tethered airbag on the market and the subscription is just an option so you don't have to pay the full cost up front.
My concern with a tethered vs this is a non-moving incident. Although having to rely on electronics and an app is also a concern. Apps are a convenience, but can also cause frustration with phone OS updates and compatibly. I'm an Android user so knowing developers have to write code for multiple devices what measures are being taken by the manufacturer to ensure compatibly in the future? I have an IOS device too so I'm not 100% biased. I know technology changes but being an early adopter of a safety device without many reviews is a concern.
Good protection but do you have one like an air neck bag for the head guard .
I was interested until the discussion about subscriptions. Geez. I have over 100k miles on my Hit Air vest, deployed 3xs. It's paid for and works well. No thanks Klim.

It's bullshit anyway, 800 to protect something you don't hit anyway.
I don't understand what the hang up is. You have 2 options:
1) Buy the vest and then pay the one time service fee and own the electronics. You get all the updates and a 2 year warranty on the electronics.
or
2) Buy the vest and pay the subscription for the electronics. You get the updates and a new electronics unit every 3 years. They even let you suspend the subscription during months when you won't be riding such as during the winter.
People pay subscriptions on the SPOT tracker. Heck your cell phone is near useless without paying a monthly fee to your carrier.... thus a subscription fee. Most would consider that both of these are safety devices.
Nah, I'll go with Alpinestar techair.
I'm looking for an airbag vest now. I love the Alpinestar tech 5 for it's shoulder protection but the $300 per pop of use, that you have to send in to have done, and it doesn't do anything to keep your helmet from bouncing around, avoiding neck damage, is why I'm not buying it.

First of all I rock Klim in summer and fall. I love the Klim apparel anf believe in the comfort and protection. I like this vest but the subscription cost on top of the purchase price is a little steep.That being said I will purchase future Klim products but not the vest, at least for now.
Then the Regular plan (buy) is for you. For $798 you get the full set - Klim's vest and In&box - including updates.
I think I'm planning to get this for my electric unicycle. The tethered ones work better but the unicycle isn't heavy enough for that and may travel with me in a crash.
just out of interest why do the tethered ones work better? If you low side a bike and stay connected the tethered airbag won't go off. This one will detect the change in angle/movement/speed etc and deploy the bag.
Do you have to or is it recommended to use an additional chest protector like the Alpinestars Nucleon with the Ai-1?
There is no formal recommendation for a chest protector since (upon inflation) the chest has protection/coverage from impacts. Same can be said for the Alpinestars and Dainese units of similar designs.
When I have very tight sport leather jacket does it mean when vest deploys the level of protection will be limited? Does it require a different size jacket to go with this vest?
Great question.
With all of the new air vests we are seeing it is recommended you have just a hair more slack in your jacket than typical so they can properly expand. If your current jacket is suck-it-in-as-you-zip-it-up tight, then you might want something that is a bit looser to ensure full deployment.

klim is a great brand but in&motion have another airbag for less and no subscription...
I am confused why everyone is mad about the subscription system. By my math even if you buy the vest outright you would be paying about $800. This is reasonably close to prices of comparable products from other top companies like Alpinestars and Helite. Basically, it seems like they are doing a sort of payment plan option, rather than forcing you to drop the 800 all at once. Is this correct or am I missing something?
Your 100 % right ... over a three year period 33.00 more per year then the competition for 3 years & allows those to purchase at a reasonable price it's a very good finance rate it's all how u look at it ... & it's always updating ... ( however if what I'm reading is true that it could possibly not deploy without a gps signal ... ( then keep it with your 100.00 dollar ( member fee , )
I wish you would have specified some of the things in their site! Such as the type of crashes that detects and the fact that you can put it in TRACK mode! Not like the latest A stars that it was suggested to road only.
Unfortunately, until In&Motion partners up with a company that makes track suits available here in the US, there is no option to put it into track mode for US owners, which is why it wasn't mentioned in the review. Once i paid the subscription for 3 years and reached the price of the brain of the unit can i stop paying for the subscription and own the jacket and it will still work as it should?

The subscription continues after the 3 year period, we just used that as a cost analogy to help customers understand what Klim was offering with IN&Motion. Continuing to pay that subscription though means that you are eligible for upgrades to the next model of IN&Box if one comes out, whereas if you buy it outright that would be yours and an upgrade would come at a later time. In&motion... Do you see coming out with firmware updates that allow for off-road drops? On tarmac is great, but if I go on an adventure tour, I may want a solution which allows for drops on rocky, gravel, ruts or sand. Please advise.
It's unlikely. Since the crashes are so unique and the system wouldn't be able to tell a severe crash from a light tip over and decide when to deploy/not deploy, that technology just isn't there yet. Most manufacturers say their system is OK for fire roads etc, but then heavily caution that by saying very light fire roads not true off-road riding. A crash on the street also usually ends your day of riding whereas a crash off-road usually starts your day of riding so if the units deploys right out of the gate on a very light tip over in a rock garden or sand patch, it would just be added weight without protection the rest of the ride. The future will likely hold something, but that is why most if not all off road riders just trust armor for multiple impacts and larger coverage areas. Good video presentation, but I down voted the video as a way of showing my disapproval for the subscription system for a piece of gear that I bought.
United States is not on the country list for billing address making it impossible to register....

Not getting all the negatives about the subscription. You pay monthly for your netflix, Spotify, and your phone etc. On top of that, your riding a $25,000.00 plus bike. $12.00 a month, if you go with that plan, doesn't seem unreasonable. Whats your safety worth??
They all got it wrong & didn't bother to check their website, they think that they will have to pay $12 a month even after buying the airbag vest😂

I think it is fascinating and we are lucky to have such options. Nobody is forcing you to pay the subscription...Choose the purchase plan.....price is comparable to others. If you don't like the technology type, get the leash. Both RevZilla and Klim are for profit companies......choose to do business with them or not. I never understand the hate.

This airbag can used in motocross or only road?
This system is only designed for on-road use. There are no systems currently fit for motocross use on the market.

My apologies, I should have read the EULA before commenting and will have to completely reverse my opinion. Depending on your payment method, you must connect your device to their network for updates at least once a month (subscription), or once a year (purchase outright). Failure to do so will result in their deactivation of the device without warning or reason. If you were to cancel for any reason, In&Motion expects you to mail your module back to them, being that you are only purchasing a "license" to use their product. So you pay $400 up front (regardless of who you buy it from), but the moment you actually register the device with In&Motion (which is mandatory for it to work); you sign away your property rights, it now belongs to them. My guess is, once they upload their software on this vest module, they take ownership of that module to prevent anyone from extracting the encryption/hash that allows someone to connect back to their server. However, this would be the equivalent of buying a mobile phone, but the moment that you activate it and receive your first software update, that device now belongs to Samsung.
Investing in safety is really important, but the subscription scheme is way too funny. Its almost painful how Spurge try to convince us. I'm sure there are other options out there.

You don’t have to pay subcription with Dainese D-Air Smart Jackets, and you still get all the updates for free by simply plug in it to your pc via USB cable.
“Unfortunately” I had a crash, where (fortunately) I was wearing my Dainese Smart Jacket, and it worked as it had to, and on the following week, I reordered another Smart Jacket (Dainese can also be “repaired,” but having in mind that we are talking about safety, I don’t want to take the chance of finding out whether the airbag was properly replaced or not in case of an event.
My recommendation is that everyone should have an airbag vest / jacket if you can afford it, but Klims subscription need is really a total deal breaker. No one would appreciate that in the case of an event, the airbag would not work because any monthly payment issue, besides… riding a bike should be something to enjoy, not another expense or check mark to have in mind when getting ready to go out on the streets.
Is it possible to wash any of these airbag vests ?

We let several weeks with notifications and emails before disabeling the protection. The protection is never disabled while riding.

But you don't charge extra for the updates (part of the updates are bugs from the developer side), it not how software works, this is a really weird tactic to down the initial price tag. If you tell me that part of the subscription includes a refresh service for the vest or some kind of insurance we will have a different conversation.
According to IN&Motion, part of the subscription service is replacing the little brain module in the back if a new addition comes out. So you would be getting new hardware as part of the deal, not just the firmware updates. No, it shouldn't. In the event of an accident, you'd be away from the backrest when the airbag deploys. Although you would want to make sure you aren't leaning on the on/off button on the airbag while riding.

Whoever runs in&motions marketing is going to be out of a job lol. How on earth did you think you could convince people they need to pay extra for updates let alone a subscription. Include it in the overall total cost!
Granted, this could be the best airbag system on the market, but if the business case for it is handicapped because of pricing, then maybe you should continue to develop the product rather than subject it to a sales failure and destroy brand equity.

Agreed. This isn't a "review", it's a straight out product pitch. I also have the impression that Anthony called out issues and gave a semblance of some balance. With Spurgeon this has all but gone, and I think it really undermines what the Revzilla brand was about.

The difference with the subscription is you can turn it off and on. So up here in the north east, the riding season starts in April and ends in Nov.
Most people talking shit have no idea how the payment / subscription works (which options there are, you can buy it outright vor 400,-$) and also this is far cheaper and easier to reactivate then Alpinestar or Dainese
Being a fist time rider, I might not get 3 years use out of it. Plus in 3 years prices will go down and tech will improve. It’s part of modern life. Buy an IPhone for 1K and get a new one in 2-3 years. Maybe I’ll cancel my onlyfans subscription for this.

@@pedrohack2869 The detection and inflation time of tethered systems is much higher. In some accidents as collisions, tethered systems may be deployed too late.
The fact that a poor gps signal can render the airbag ineffective is a showstopper for me.
You can at least check a mechanical vest visually rather than trust software. I can pulled the cord to test it.
In Motion's document "Detection Cases" says It requires a GPS signal in order for the airbag to deploy, to the point where In&Motion says that airbag deployment is "not guaranteed" if there is no GPS signal, or a poor GPS signal. So, if you are riding the Blue Ridge Parkway and can't get a signal, you may be SOL for a deployment.

That has to be the absolute worst pricing plan I can think of, not to mention the need for firmware upgrades. What if you don't get the subscription plan and the vest fails to deploy and you get the "You didn't have the latest firmware update." My vest doesn't require a phone, a subscription, bluetooth, wifi or a battery charge. I don't even think an auto airbag is this complicated. Klim, needs to drop this idea or get another manufacturer on board. It's absolutely horrible pricing plan and I can imagine the marketing genius that pitched this plan should be tarred and feathered.
I guess people would prefer to pay for music and television then something that can potentially save their lives. I too am not a huge fan of subscription models but with the lower cost to entry and updating firmware (not that one should have to pay for that) I'm okay. In fact I ordered one from Klim, just waiting for delivery. Knowing these types of devices are now readily available I simply cannot imagine getting on a bike without it.

Safety gear purchase, as with just about anything, is an emotional one as much as a logical one. You want to be around for your family, stay around to enjoy life etc etc. This subscription may logically make sense but it *feels* wrong. I would rather get the Dainese one.
For context, I have the Hit Air street vest both race and street Alpinestars vests, and the Dainese Misano jacket. I was looking at this Klim one and the Dainese one for their ease of use.
Also people need to learn to like the video for what it is and not dislike it because of the product IN the review.
