Holy shit ok. I never understood the "Dave floated away" line , and kind of thought it was a typo or misinterpretation. And that the original line was "They floated away" or something. The uncle Martin line i always just took as one of the million crazy thoughts one has during the first couple of hours of an acid trip.

Apparently Its actually about a friend of theirs, during the Lateralus album recording, he apparently had went out in the desert and He came back to the guys and told them the chilling story about what had happened to him so they wrote the incredible masterpiece a few years later about it called “LOST KEYS/ ROSETTA STONED. Just left a longer comment on your reaction to "Third Eye". Third Eye is the flip side of drug experience to Rosetta Stoned. Third Eye is about the spiritual awakening that drugs can give you. Rosetta Stoned... isn't. :-) In my comment on "Third Eye", I talk about a connected song, "Lateralus", which a lot of fans consider Tool's greatest song. It's really intricate in ways that you can't pick up on unless you know how they composed it, so I gave a "quick" explanation in that other comment. Take a look at the comment if you're interested. Since you've already reviewed Third Eye and Rosetta Stoned, some of the more difficult Tool songs for people to appreciate, you'll have no problem with Lateralus! (which is also hella long.)
Oh, and after that, be sure to do Tool's "Hooker with a Penis" sometime. Yeah, yeah, the name is scary, but the song is the greatest diss track ever made, and funny as hell!

There's an alleged story behind this, however, it's a common occurrence for many to experience during an existential crisis and experimentation with numerous drugs to find a "purpose" in life. Lost Keys (Blame Hoffman) is in regards to Albert Hoffman, inventor of LSD. Many Ayahuasca and DMT trips have inspired people to believe there is another realm and entities showing them the way to live. Some claim it's God they encounter. In the beginning dude is just loading up on all sorts of shit, maybe to kill himself....maybe to discover something. Either way, he's "considering this whole chosen people thing" while in his "need to know pose", so you decipher the interpretation as you wish. Another common trait is that people don't remember the details and can't explain it well. Shit the bed....again. This dude may be prone to being a fuck-up.
It's quite familiar in with a lot of people I've encountered and some I know dearly who have taken these trips to find something more meaningful. Fucking spot on. It's good fun and they fucking music is so satisfyingly trippy and groovy. Glad you enjoyed it and probably why people said you weren't "ready". Either way, the music is badass, but I'm sure they were referring to the context. Does anybody even read this?
If you think about it, if your completed tripping out of your mind, it would make for a perfect encounter or an abduction and you never would know if it did in fact actually happen
