The thing is, judges in the U.S. are far more independent than judges in Canada. As you can see from how it is the provincial legislature voting on whether to start the investigation, something that never happens in the U.S. (where members of Congress take great pains to stay out of the court system, only using committees to collect information, and relying on the much further away prosecutors to actually bring cases to court). Also, the unitary nature of the Parliamentary system is such that a court can’t go against the will of the legislature except on very obvious matters that contravene the Constitution. The fact that a company is corruptly making money off of a temporary legislative grant program does not rise to a constitutional issue, no matter how bad it seems, and thus there’s no mechanism for the judge to safely go against the will of this corrupt minister. For a judge to go against the will of a minister in this case would be equivalent to a U.S. judge going against a majority in the House of Representatives and the Senate and the President, because in Canada all three of those things are unified in a parliamentary body, where even if other parties are represented, the majority party has absolute power after they appoint their Prime Minister. Under this kind of Parliamentary system, the example for what kinds of ways a judge can go against the decision of the government would be things like the British Supreme Court deciding that Boris Johnson is prohibited from pro roguing Parliament. It sounds esoteric, but it is a statement of who is sovereign, and it is simply that judge in Britain recognizing that, though there isn’t a British constitution, the existence of one is predicated on the sovereignty of Parliament. Often people think of judges as superheroes, but their power is extremely fickle, where a judge telling the people running the finances of a provincial government to kick out M&P from administering a grant program, that judge, if successful at convincing those lower level people to make that change, could be decried by M&P and the Minister as that judge “overstepping his bounds” or even call it a “coup”. The ministers then, wanting to set the example to maintain power for themselves, would feel the onus to remove that judge from that position via a vote in Parliament, or by the provincial premier stepping into that judge’s office and demanding the judge’s resignation. But more fundamentally against the idea of judges as superheroes, is that the judges were specifically chosen in order to be the kinds of people who would never want to rock the boat, and who enjoy their feeling of safety from a regular paycheck.

Prove them wrong, and throw it back into their faces. Keep being awesome 😎
Thank you for choosing the moral route. Corruption like this should be called out at every chance. I truly hope that the investigation is reconsidered and something is done to expose and expel those involved and that your business is successful.
This is why there has to be a completely independent corruption watchdog, that has no connection to government or any party. Politicians wonder why so few people trust them, yet they do all they can to show us why we should never ever trust them with anything.
No company or organization responsible for approval of a grant should be involved in ANY other step. That would fail a controls audit in any responsible and ethical organization. It should never have made it past government approval, and should have been refused by MNP. This fails ethical standards across the board. The fact it became punitive is extremely troubling and has to be addressed.
You're doing the right think trying to be open about this. If you ever want to be a multinational organization, working with governments and regulators, which you do, ethics is incredibly important it can make or break a company. I work for a large international company and we have ethics debriefs about exactly the type of behavior you're describing, except usually we're talking about sketchy companies in 3rd world countries who have too much control over local governments and where bribes and kickbacks are just the "cost of doing business". Crazy to see similar behaviors in companies working for the Canadian government.

From what I've seen, it's as bad if not worse in the US.
@@jmanlinc That's why you have to change them every two cycles. More often, and nothing gets done.
As much as many Canadians are loathe to admit it, America and Canada are the same country (being a bit hyperbolic there but you get what Im saying) america just makes international headlines more often. But a lot of the issues are the same or sometimes worse than the US
Your morals and ethics make me proud to call myself Canadian. Your integrity is refreshing.
Damn, I can't think of a company that I'd rather invest in! Trucks I want to drive. People I'd love to work with. And a moral compass set to true north?! Keep swinging for the fences guys! You'll get there.
Want to see them strike for the fences, while the iron's hot, as they say. First mover advantage does not last forever 😅
This is why people need to be very weary and suspicious of government grants and subsidies. Keep being stand up people Edison Motors
You are doing it right.
How much do you need for new shop?
Could have forgot the exact number because I think it was 20 million or 17
I don't have much to offer but I would love to be a private investor.
@@Zach-ju5vi
Yup‼️
Oh geez. Yeah. Right
I'm down for a few shares
MMP needs to be disbanded and investigated for blackmailing grant filers into kickbacks. That’s absolutely a kickback.
You did the right thing Chace.
Exposing corruption with how public tax dollars are used is never a bad choice.
We need more honest people to do the same.
I'm glad I'm supporting a company with a moral compass pointing in the right direction... stay true to that... MNP is in a clear conflict of interest... it's so sad that politics are so morally corrupt and allow such a waste of tax payer dollars.
100% right to not feed the corruption.
You are mortally right and stand above the crowd that are just in it for the money scams.
You are clearly in it to run a business that helps truckers first and environment also.
Win win.
Sir, you all have my greatest respect.
Please don't get discouraged. Can I invest? Can I volunteer to sweep floors in your Terrace shop when you get it open? Just ignore the knuckle dragging thieves in Victoria! Keep on TRUCKING!!!
Building real western canada size class 8 trucks. Getting money to build electric axle units, keep highest quality.
How's service rig electric conversion in Rocky Mountain house go?
i will look for you XD
Your company is built on integrity, you did the right thing, don't sell your soul or play their games.
Also i beg you from the bottom of my heart to park just outside the event with topsy and a flat deck trailor with some speakers, there'll be a lot of people walking past and you may even get some more attention and finance
Thanks for pointing out the morally corrupt policies in this province. It’s nice to see someone stand up to them for once instead of just going along like most other people do.
Thank you!
I'm glad you are able to talk about this. In the end you did the right thing rather than ending up as the target of a corruption scandal.
Ethical business is *good* business. In the US, at least, paying a kickback woulda been grounds for dismissal. You absolutely did the right thing.
LOL you poor gullible sap.
I was born and raised in Vernon. I love it. I had dealings with the bc government. They are crooked!! I beat them with public news coverage. My only tool. And it worked. I was broke after the fight. penny less I moved to Alberta. They are awesome for business. That’s why major percentage of bc businesses moved there. Or at the least their head offices. I hate to be rude. Alberta is generally ugly. And farther away from nice stuff. Mountains lakes short winters etc. but I visit lots and never regret moving to Alberta. I suggest any business will prosper from lower taxes and better support. That’s why huge influx to Alberta in the last year. And many decades.
If not you, then who and when would this scandal have been broke? And would you want to be caught in the crosshairs of a public investigation as a beneficiary of this corruption? You're doing right by your people, even though this is the harder road to take.
Kudos to all of you at Edison! Honesty and integrity are rare these days and is almost totally absent in government, whether in Canada, The U.S., or China. It's all about filtering money upward.
This needs to be put out there on any platform. Contact the local news. Should be a big story for them. Get ahold of online news ,they will get it out there.
Louis Rossman sent me here. Glad I’m here. Supporting and following you!
same
Integrity is never easy, and is unfortunately expensive. However, had you gone down that path and got the grant, I'd wager they would have a bunch of requirements that don't align with your values or business principles and would further pull you down. Your integrity stands strong with your followers and supporters. You made the RIGHT DECISION !
They would figure out a way to snuff the project out once they had control.
If you get approved without them, it invalidates their shakedown in the middle, wtf, MNP is criminal
You did the right thing. Never compromise. You have the power of the people behind you. Other companies compromised, and nobody cares about them now
Class act! Yet again from within the trucking industry we are witnessing what true integrity is by solid people standing up for what’s right, fair, professional and NOT illegal rather than taking the easier more travelled road of blatant conflict of interests for short term financial gain. Sadly we have seen this before where elected officials have no shame and apparently suffer no consequences for in the least acting unethically and mismanaging taxpayers money. Priceless acts hold the most value thank you for reminding us. God bless you🙏
No conflict of interest there…wtf?
I’m excited to see you guys grow and succeed!!
No, Sunlight is the best disinfectant.
You guys have been doing awesome, and your name recognition is spreading everywhere. You have proven to be on point and successful at making your trucks work.
The fact that they questioned your timeline and budget is evidence of the problem with the system, that they expect a "normal" company to spend millions upon millions of dollars and take years of development to make a working electric truck.
Prove them wrong, and throw it back into their faces. Keep being awesome 😎
Their mistake was using off-the-shelf parts instead of building in planned obsolescence.
You have absolutely made the correct decision. Both in not giving into these corrupt robbers, and in exposing the corruption.
Honesty, integrity, not just good ideas... rules to live by. You did the right thing!
Good on you Chace exposing this corruption!
You madr the right choice 100% people stand with good people.
This is spirit of Edison Motors, without it nothing is important. So don't worry, many similar things will happen but hey you got first class experience right? Just preserve this spirit.
This is the husband to the picture. Beyond proud of you.. All of you.. building anything on anything less than integrity is worthless.
Thank your parents.. please.. proud of them too..
We are missionaries in east Africa, but I logged south of you and built recycling programs for Whatcom county WA in the '90's.. those programs were built on the deepest integrity I could muster.. they are still in operation last I heard..
Chin up, never shut up, God is with you, or you would never have got this far..
Garbage shit like this makes me upset to live in this province. Y'all are doing something amazing here.
I like Chace's approach of leveraging electric vehicles for bettering politics more than Space Karen's.
@HalideHelix Plenty of people say "you all," and have it squish into y'all. Abbreviation is convenient. It won't necessarily be uttered in any particular, drawling accent. That said, hundreds of my more elderly neighbors were US draft dodgers, so perhaps they helped to hasten that particular abbreviation's widespread adoption.
You guys do have a lot of integrity, and that deserves respect.
Show of hands... how many are surprised at corrupt government agents.
.
The government agents care about the government agents.
You did the right thing! This just unveiled the corruption in government. I wish you guys the best.
You know, this sort of answers my curiosity about government EV grants and incentives. While applying for SUVI last year, I had the question in the back of my head of how trustworthy were the organizations tasked by the provincial government to hand out the money. Now I wasn't in your situation with two points of contact with the system, but damn if it isn't a huge conflict of interest to both solicit for business to apply for grants AND approve of grants at the same time. Hella sus how the ministry handled your case, like cops investigating themselves for wrongdoing.
Sounds to me like you absolutely know the definition of integrity my friend. Hold your head high and have faith it will all work out. The high road is always lonely... but the best path taken.
I sent an email to my MLA, who is in the NDP party, regarding this. I am surprised that this has not received more attention from the larger media outlets. Where is the CBC and the Vancouver Sun?
I have seen the same thing happen to fiber optic companies in our area. They pass a grant to expand fiber optic, companies apply & get the grant and never follow through. I talked with the C.E.O of a company I expected to have received this grant bc they were determined to expand and grow. They told me they didn't get the grant bc someone applied for it before them, they made it sound like it was first come first serve..I personally haven't seen any new fiber optics, no clue as to where the money actually went? They said they were just as upset about it as me
Keep doing what your doing brother. Your doing the right thing and I'm excited for you. Don't stop, keep pushing forward.
Well done, hats off and big handshake 🤝🏼
Keep with honour & integrity
“When you see that in order to produce, you need to obtain permission from men who produce nothing - When you see that money is flowing to those who deal, not in goods, but in favors - When you see that men get richer by graft and by pull than by work, and your laws don’t protect you against them, but protect them against you - When you see corruption being rewarded and honesty becoming a self-sacrifice - You may know that your society is doomed.”
― Ayn Rand, Atlas Shrugged
Good on you for calling it out. I’m in Australia and I believe we are at the same level of corruption here to. Good work
I feel you made the right choice. More people need to stick to there morals. Thank you for sticking to your morals and up holding your integrity.
Thank you for doing the right thing! And thank you for standing by your principles and your ethics
Being smart in business is not the same as being steadfast to your morals. The USA is known for these kinds of antics. And that businesses will compromise anything to make a quick buck. I applaud your commitment to standing your ground and growing your business the way you want to. Even though it may seem hard. Being committed to a moral compass even though it may take longer, is far better than compromising yourself and your company just to get there faster or get more money.
Short term financial gain or long term clear conscience? Trusting your gut feeling got you this far. Doubt is normal in the moment. Getting sidetracked and second guessing yourself is not what you need now. Stay true.
Well i am a bit afraid that this stunt put them on the "not nice list" and the goverment is not only not helping they could interfear with their buisness
@@raphiseth6942 definitely , but together with those that they did partner up with they can and should keep those against them pretty busy just being honest. Those "bureaucrats" won't no what to do because I am sure they never had to deal with anything else but corruption.
By doing what you did, you avoided a far more serious situation later. Kudos.
You can't buy integrity. Good on ya. I hope you get more investment from your honesty.
As a Resident of British Columbia, THANK YOU!!!
All British Columbians pay more and more into carbon taxes and clean initiatives each year. That money is meant for companies like Edison, a company working towards making BC and the world a cleaner place, with REAL FUNCTIONAL TECHNOLOGY!!
Not into the pockets of some corporate stock holders of some firm.
Thank you, for putting yourself out there for all of british columbia.
You did what you should have done don’t get sucked in, then they own you. Good Job guys!!
First, I’m fully aware this is in Canada. However, this certainly sounds like our present, United States, high officials, and their blocking, changing and ignoring the law and procedure of law.
Standing up for what is right, against corruption, is always right. You are on the right track with your electrification of semis, and now the public knows about the corruption. Keep at it man.
You are so right! Thank you!
100 percent someone has to call them out on their BS or nothing will never change keep doing awesome things love the channel and what you guys are doing
I haven’t checked in on what you guys are doing in a while but I’m more than happy to see the transparency and character you demonstrate in your business. It amazes me how corrupt governments can be and how few there are that stand up for what is right and just. FJB and Justin Truturd!
Ugh... We really gotta clean house at the provincial and municipal level
Wow corruption by definition.
The world needs more people like you
Good on you ive heard a rumor Edison may be at an auto show in detroit next month and i hope to see you there
Thank you for having the bravery to come forward.
I'm glad you did what did. It will be better for you in the long run when the public demands this gets fixed.❤
Thank you for exposing this!!! This happens all the time all across the country unfortunately…
this video makes me very satisfied that I joined your team as an installer.
Thanks a lot for sticking to the right Ethics and Morals. This only shows your truthfulness and commitment to do the right things, for the customers and the community. It's so sad that you had to go through such an experience.
We're all with you. Isn't there a way to take it to the court and fix it?
I feel like it’s time we make major changes(on both sides of the border). We the people need to take back our countries. This is sad.
You are a man wih morals and made the right choices. The country thanks you. You did the right thing..which few do nowadays
Stay clean and corrupt free. Make it hard for them to paint you/the company in a bad light
I respect the will to do things straight, it's such a testament of your morals as an individual and as a company
Wow! That's some real level headed composure to go through all that and talk about it so calmly.
There's some major palm greaing, back scratching and probably worse going on with that program.
Kudos and respect!
Glad you are standing up... cheers
Good on you guys for doing the right thing
