The one thing I’ll say about Metro Man using his speed to give himself “me-time” is that it doesn’t really work if you’re trying to make music. You can’t play a guitar faster than the strings can vibrate, and any sounds you make will take forever to reach your ears (which may actually be contributing to how bad he is).

    • @marcosdheleno

@@wolfwing1 it technically does, he doesnt have to deal with ALOT of the issues you would need to because of his body, like for example his fingers dont need to adapt which takes some time for most people. he also has a superbrain that gives him faster learning, which makes it far easier to handle the technical aspect of music.
and his enhanced hearing will allow him to fine tune his playing.
what it wont help is the singing part.

  • @blueteller

The thing with Metroman wasn't really that he didn't have time for himself... rather, he had been molded by society into something he didn't really want to be anymore. And considering that Megamind is rather harmless as a villain (property damage, sure, but never murder or anything) he knew the city didn't really need him.

I relate to megamind so much.. I feel it's a story of how bullying can corrupt someone. In the beginning up until he mixed the chemicals nothing he did was meant to be mean or evil, he was simply trying to impress his peers and get praise for his intellect, and he had little accidents. He was then unjustly bullied and punished for those accidents. I was bullied from that age, and let me tell you, if guns weren't illegal in the UK, by the age of 11 in secondary school I would've been a school shooter. Hell, even at 13 on MSN Messenger I was chatting with a guy I met on a forum about how to eradicate humanity and leave select people alive. It took me til I was 25 to let go of my past and stop being a negative person and become positive about life.

  • @Kaempfdog

Here’s the best way to look at Megamind, Metro Man and their effect on the world around them. They aren’t heroes OR villains. They are taking part in a school play and were assigned their roles. And they took both roles into being professional actors. It’s ALWAYS about the show, the presentation. Megamind’s methods never hurt anyone. It’s clear from how Roxanne treats his early threats. He wanted her to play her part, but like a show, it just LOOKS like she’s in danger. It’s all property damage, trolling…terrorism. But no one dies in this method. (You can’t possibly tell me he pronounces all those words wrong genuinely, and he just enjoys ticking people off by trolling them)
He realizes he wants the other role, but he’s ASSIGNED his role, he can’t be another role unless he’s someone else. So he plays the director. And he made the WRONG cast choice but was too proud to choose someone else. He wants to escape not the show, but the tropes. He acts slightly entitled for Roxanne, but he is more saying I’m not ALLOWED to have these things because I’m the bad guy. You won’t LET me change.
Metro Man straight up didn’t want this show anymore. He wanted another show. And one HE has to earn. Hence why he chose music. No physical training he always has done, no super power helping him do it, he has to actively learn how to play. And currently he’s awful and has to learn. Which is what he wants.
Minion is more the backstage manager handling the costumes and helping the theatrics hit the perfect adrenaline. (Intentionally making those RIDICULOUS warm up times.) And when Megamind says he doesn’t want the role, Minion basically is saying the show may as well be canceled. Which it more or less was since all the cracks of the show WITHOUT Minion fell apart.
Hal, was never in the show. He’s the camera guy. He WATCHES the show. He never played the role. He could only take what he assumed happened from watching. Metro Man got Roxanne because he saved her. Metro Man would never have died if he just put down Megamind. (There are MILLIONS of viewers that say that the hero should just kill the villain.) Not only was that untrue, but Hal never even fit in the roles in the first place. And showed exactly why someone LIKE Hal can’t have those powers. Because it’s not the power, it’s their control. And he has NONE. Because he never caught on this was a performance. He could act as he pleased because he wasn’t a character in the show.
Roxanne realized as time went on how these guys saw their role and she decided to snap these people out with REALITY and not playing into their show. And it just kept getting her stuck in various versions until Hal was powerless, and she understood Megamind really was just as human as the rest of them.

Metroman reminds me of the Samaritan from the comic Astro City. He is another Superman stand-in, but also something unique. Through some future tech that tells him what is happening where he times his rescues to the second. Flight time to X, X minutes and X Seconds. Rescue another X seconds. While keeping a secret identity and doing some stuff with the local Avengers/JLA.
But when he comes home at night and sleeps, what does he dream of? Flying free with no burden, just... dreams of flying.
Even if Metro Man can move this fast, it's not the same as relaxing. BTW, I think his perception only speeds up when he moves this fast, With him I don't think he always perceives things that fast. Anyway, moving this fast I don't think he could sit down, relax and make music. Well, he could, but it would not be the same. He would always know the difference.
It's a problem many artists face when they make their hobby their job. If they are not careful, it stops being fun. For more on that, I recommend the movie 'Kikky's delivery service'.

    • @ErikGrimms
      @ErikGrimms  3 года назад +3

Yeah for sure, it's just unfortunate. Cause when you're a true hero you can't ask for time off, you can't take vacations, it's always self-sacrifice and duty. He just needed every other weekend off or something haha. I do plan on getting to more Ghibli films so stay tuned, trying to figure out how to solve it without incurring the wrath of the copyright gods.

American men are much more likely to see him as basically harmless and are more surprised when he turns out to be the big bad of the movie. I’ve even heard him described as a twist villain. Meanwhile, European men tend to immediately notice and call out his immense creepiness, and predict his being the villain as soon as he’s injected with the serum. Probably speaks to the cultural difference between America and most of Europe. Thanks for a great reaction!

I disagree strongly that this movie does things we're familiar with, but very well. You gotta remember this movie came out in 2010 (more than a decade ago, christ I'm old), together with Despicable Me which, unfortunately, got the most attention from the public - partly because this movie _subverted_ everything we knew about superhero movies (in a much more nuanced way than Despicable Me, I think). It deals with the concept of nature vs nurture and destiny vs free will. What other animated family movie, or even superhero movie, can you name that, within the first act of its story, actually lets the villain succeed? What happens after rarely gets discussed because most villains nowadays aren't characters, they are the foil to our hero or simply an obstacle to be defeated to get our happy ending.
Even Hal/Tighten/Titan doesn't fall into that category! He's a great exploration of the question; what if someone who isn't good, but is mostly harmless, suddenly gets gifted extraordinary powers? Most of us want to believe that if we were ever blessed with great power, we'd use it for good - but this power would augment all the flaws we already have - which in Hal's case was a sense of entitlement and some serious anger issues when he doesn't get what he wants.
Megamind wants to show us that being good, or being bad, isn't dependent on destiny or when or where you were born. It's a choice you make.

You should preview "Matinee" it's about a shlock movie producer (who adds in-house special effects) who premieres his latest horror classic in Florida, Unfortunately, he premieres it during the Cuban missile crisis. Here's an example of the dialogue: "We are out of cornflakes, you will have to go through the fiery apocalypse without corn flakes."

There's a couple of things. I've read a lot of books and picked up a lot of storytelling approaches and archetypes. I've also studied filmmaking for a couple of months in my youth. I also try very hard to understand stories and characters. All of these things together help I think. It also sucks a bit because I can't help myself, whatever I watch or read or play I always try to analyze it and break it down instead of just enjoying it haha.

If a second is a full metroman's day of 24 hours. then a 1 hour is 50 to 52 days short of 10 years of MM time. A day would be 3 to 4 years short of 240 years of MM time.

29:20 ...this movie is specifically known for doing something new. What are you on about? You've said that for a shit-ton of films. What bizarro world are you living on where nothing is new?

An animated movie where the main character is "the bad guy" and is trying to gain acceptance and be appreciated for who he is, changing perceptions and becoming a "good guy" by the end? Off the top of my head I can think of Shrek, Despicable Me, Lilo & Stitch and Wreck-It Ralph that fits that criteria. In general animated movies usually have a storyline where the main character doesn't fit in and their quest for acceptance and appreciation is the main story thread of the movie which resolves into them embracing themselves and not conforming to societal norms and in so doing find a place in society by being themselves. Details differ but the key elements are always the same.

A note from your YT creator
    IMA Copyright Choomer
Under Section 107 of the Copyright Act of 1976, a ''fair use'' ruling can be made by a US Court allowing the non approved reproduction and use of anothers private intellectual property by a third party as long as that use is limited and generally either for criticism/critique (including satire and parody, because humor is always welcome), teaching, scholarship or research. I'm not doing any of those things but I can throw around the phrase ''My theft is protected under the fair use doctrine'' like I know what it means.
Even more important, is it for a non profit purpose or for dying my hair green and buying Doc Martens?
If I was donating my proceeds to starving African pagan babies, buying the third world mRNA vaccines or teaching the world to sing in perfect harmony, maybe the judge would cut me some slack, but in reality I'm planning on buying a 70's muscle car and putting a down payment on a condo next to the weed store.
Additionally there are three more required fair use ''tests'', besides this intended use flim flammery, of which I must satisfy the court to achieve a favorable ruling. The ''nature of the work'' I'm stealing (a movie or book is treated differently than say a technical report) , the ''amount used in relation to the whole'' (I may get away with one line from a movie but not from a Haiku) and the ''effect on the business market'' for the work now and in the future (is it being distributed in one classroom at one university on one day or forever on the worldwide web?). As you can see, winning a fair use case in court is difficult and rare and with the internet more problematic than just posting a ''Copyright Disclaimer''. Which in reality is a feel good measure for the lazy and offers little legal protection...like going to confession for Catholics.
So let's do the math, I'm exploiting their private property to generate profits for my own personal if not questionable use (strike 1) , stealing the most highly protected of creative properties, music, movies and novels (strike 2), reproducing significant portions of the works, 10, 25 and even 50% (strike 3) and then putting them on the internet where they will be transmitted to every corner of the globe, can be copied by anyone and will stay around forever (strike 4, it's Canadian baseball). That's zero for oh my butt is sore!
And lets be honest, COPYRIGHT INFRINGEMENT IS INTENDED. I may proclaim loudly, with firm conviction and crocodile tears, that ''All rights belong to the respective owners'' but I don't really believe that nor do I care, I'll shoplift it anyway if it means a regular paycheck from RUclips. And if they try to stop me I'll play the victim and whine to my slobbering, dimwitted fans about how racist or sexist I'm being treated and demand action on my behalf. In this day and age it might work.
Fair Use Checklist from ''My Creator''
Is commentary - YES! That's one smack up the backside of THE MAN!
Is nonprofit - Hmmm no, gonna buy me something real nice though!
    Is educamational - nope
    Is noncommercial -nuttin' honey
Is criticism - its mostly fanboy slobbering (gotta keep the viewers happy) so, no
Is news reporting - no, unless it's Anchorman style
Is teaching - sorry, not Dewey Finn
Is scholarship - wish I graduated high school now...
Is research - it's barely bad observation
Is transformative - let's not get all crazy on me
Is not creative or imaginative - no, its very creative
Is very small amount of total copyrighted material - I used quite a bit...like a kid in a candy shop
    Is not a novel/literary, movie/theater or music/song - it is...one of those...I think
Is unpublished - who ''views'' unpublished work on RUclips?
Does not harm existing or future market or sales - I swear on fishsticks and custard no meerkats or seals will be harmed in this production
That's 1/16...sounds like a textbook case of fair use to me!
