Sorry guys got the uploads mixed up for this week, Lion King will be moved to next Wednesday!
Damn ... I don't know if I'm glad or sad ... because I love this movie but adore the lion king
React to Scooby Doo meets courage the cowardly dog movie next please 🥺 Eustace has a rap song in it
sweet summer child wait til lion king XD "oh animated movies won't kill anybody" also watch the land before time series & bambi & SCRUFFY
So fun fact: the space dad character is based on marlon Brando who was Superman’s dad in the original Superman :)
Thing is, Hal didn't turn evil because Roxanne turned him down. He never was good. He was a "nice guy". Just a guy doing nice things because he thought it would make Roxanne owe him something in return. Hal getting powers only showed his true colors.
Really interesting characterisation which I didn’t really think about, thanks! Makes him even more unlikeable 😭
I believe another super hero show recently acknowledged this as well - "When did 'nice' start meaning 'good'?"
that movie was really before its time, before all of the ''nice guy'' naratives really hit the internet and became more mainstream. A really impressive animated movie IMO
@@Entxq_ I'd recommend checking "MEGAMIND and Nice Guy™ Syndrome" from Cinema Therapy. They explained the concept really well.
@@Shaesi. yes!!! I was just gonna mention that!!
You know what sets this movie apart from other superhero movies?
*PRESENTATION!!* 😎
One of the most underrated animated movies
Megamind was for sure a movie ahead of its time
People like Hal really exist unfortunately, and they're actually terrifying. He was always a terrible person, he just happened to be given power to act on his worse instincts and desires. From the very beginning he's an angry, violent person who refuses to take responsibility. He angrily starts punching and beating the news van when denied and when hurting himself he blames the van. When training to be a hero, Hal's first thoughts went to literally melting Megamind's face off. When he finally tried to get Roxanne with his powers he literally put her in danger and almost killed her, then left her on top of a tower in the middle of the night when rejected again and immediately started stealing things. This is just who he is.
I hope when you get to the HTTYD series you also watch the TV shows that were released as well. Riders/Defenders of Berk takes place between Movies 1 and 2, and Race to the Edge technically does as well but is best watched after Movie 2 instead of before it. Hope you enjoy them when you get to them!
Megamind's entrance in the third act is a stuff of legends.
This is low-key, my favorite animated movie. In a perfect world, this would have been more popular than Despicable Me. The people made the wrong choice in a potential franchise, damn those kids for liking those minions lol. Jokes aside, maybe it's a good thing that we got 1 practically masterpiece movie and called it done, but the "what if" is too strong to not think about
They liked the wrong minion.
Mostly it was the 40-year-old moms who just thought they were cute and bought merch for their kids
I mean we will be getting the sequel show on Paramount+ 🙌
@@drewbattye9029 what? For real?!
@@KryptonKr Yes.
There is a theory that people raised Megamind and Metroman specifically to be rivals (that's why the school was near the prison), because Metroman needs an enemy to oppose and stay good, if he becomes bad himself - humanity is fucked. Metroman realised it eventually and decided to retire.
That explains why when Hal got the powers he immediately wanted to do selfish things with it
@@N1ghtb1ood You're saying Hal didn't really want to be selfish with his new powers?
@@DAMIENDMILLS That's more because of Hal himself. Hal was an awful person to begin with so gaining powers didn't change that he was just now the same awful person but with super powers.
Can't wait for you to get to HTTYD trilogy. Megamind is a great underrated movie, but that trilogy is the absolute pinnacle!
Nah, tighten became a villain cuz he thinks he deserves adoration because he's a "nice guy" those kind of people always become violent and put blame on everyone when things don't go their way. As soon as a girl says no they immediately show their true colors.
I freaking love this Movie,Megamind is one of my All Time Favorite Movies and I love the Characters, the Visuals, the Animation, the Villain, the Music, the Unpredictability, the Romance, the Action, and the Message about Choice,Purpose, and We Choose our own Destiny and Who We Want to Be,not what Others Makes Us,for Years it was a Shame that this Masterpiece lose to Despicable Me but It was Confirmed that Megamind will Return in some Way,Shape, and Form, which makes me feel Happy and Excited.
Such a shame Despicable Me overshadowed this. I like DM well enough, but this is a better overall story.
I’m surprised they put AC/DC’s “Highway to Hell” song in a kid’s movie 😂😂😂
PG are family movies.
G are kids movies.
They have minion turn off the radio before they say hell
@@captainpep3 and then it turns back on and hell is said
I mean, thematically there's a bunch of tunes on the soundtrack. Welcome to the Jungle ain't exactly kids fare either, but hey, as someone mentioned, it's PG.
@@haha-lj5sq That's just the rating, doesn't mean too much.
Fun fact: If you slow down the movie Metro Man actually blips out at the scene where Megamind tries to use the death ray on him meaning he did actually used his super speed and it foreshadowed his fake death
Fun fact: People that use "Fun Fact" to start their comments are lame!

the only actual bad thing metroman did was make megamind land in prison as babies. He was never bad to him his "entire" life. Its always taken as metroman has some personal hatred towards megamind when in reality almost everything hes done can be explained and given a reason
I thought The Lion King would be today
The emptiness Megamind felt when he killed Metroman, is as good as Joker killed Batman.
Hal in an interesting character to me. To be clear, he is a "Nice Guy" but I I think there's more factors into his decent into villainy than just him being rejected by Roxanne. That was just the tipping point.
First of all, he only thinks he should "get the girl because he saved her" because Megamind told him that's how it worked, and Megamind only thinks that because he's been raised by criminals in jail and isn't very socially adapted and he only goes of what he assumes is happening with Metroman and Roxanne. I think in the beginning, Hal was just genuinely an awkward guy who had a crush on a girl who didn't like him back, but his powers and Megamind's bad advice turned him into a villain.
For example, look at the scene where Hal invited her to his apartment for the bounce house party. He wanted to spend time with the girl he liked, but after he left Roxanne's field of vision, he didn't get upset about her not wanting to go with him, he got upset about how bad his suggestions were. He's an awkward guy who likes a girl, but has no idea how to actually talk with her. He doesn't do anything negative towards her except get a bit jealous about someone else being her partner.
I think there are two major factors contributing to him becoming a full-on Nice Guy. First, he got the powers and second Megamind, who he thinks is his "space dad", tells him that the hero always gets the girl after saving them. After that is when he changes from a somewhat funny, if clueless, awkward, dim-witted nerd to be an aggressive, vengeful, bad-tempered, sadistic guy after being rejected.
There's a clear difference before and after. Clearly, at least some of that was in him before, but he never acted on it. Which is important to understand. Everyone has some dark part of themselves, but what separates good people from bad people is making the choice not to act on that part. In the scene I mention, he genuinely believes his ideas were terrible, as no one else is around for him to be putting on a show, but he's so awkward and dim witted that it's just what came to mind in the moment as he was talking with her. He just wanted to spend time with her at that point. After he got through his training by Megamind, when he kidnapped her to drop her and save her-as a clear misunderstanding of what saving Roxanne and "getting the girl" meant- is when he goes from an awkward guy trying to get the girl to a villain. Once he has the power and expectations, and then is let down again is when he becomes a violent villain.
Clearly, Hal wasn't a perfect guy, but I think having all those powers corrupted him and brought out the worst parts of his personality, and having his expectations raised by Megamind and then his crush destroying them solidified the negative parts of him. Beforehand, he didn't feel entitled to her just because of who he was. But Megamind, who has taken on the role of a mentor and authority figure, literally telling him that being a superhero guarantees him the girl definitely made him feel entitled afterwards.
A lot of people just chalk him up to being a "Nice Guy" from the beginning because he shares many similarities to them, but he doesn't blame Roxane for not wanting to go out with him at first, he blames himself. He also never lied to her to try to spend time alone with her, or anything like that. He was genuinely a very awkward nerdy guy who wanted to spend time with a girl he liked and worked with.
However, like I said before, all those darker parts were in him as well, but he didn't act on them until he got the powers, had his expectations raised by his "Space Dad" and then had his heart broken by Roxanne. I think it's important to remember that a girl not liking a girl doesn't invalidate the guy's feelings. This doesn't excuse the way Hal reacted, but I believe the heartbreak, combined with newly set expectations is what pushed him over the edge. It's a combination of those things that made him a villain that culminated when Roxanne rejected him. When he first got his powers he was genuinely excited to be a hero, even if he was a bit too violent. So while Hal Stewart is a "Nice Guy", I don't believe he started it as one, but was unintendedly set up by Megamind into becoming one.
You should add paragraphs. It makes reading a lot better.
@@KryptonKr I was already working on that, but I typed it up on my phone. One update the comment, and added more thoughts.
@@SebasTian58323 Okay now it looks way better and easier to read
@@KryptonKr no problem. My biggest issue with writing is forgetting to space out paragraphs.
On gaining power he immediately destroyed a car that someone may have struggled to pay for. I saw him as excited at the prospect of adulation that he expected from the role of hero, rather than of being helpful.
The director described this movie as Elvis vs Alice Cooper. Why the hell don’t we have a sequel for this
Agreed - This is a great movie. You can predict what happens but it is still fun to watch because it is presented well.
A lot of these animated movies that came out between 2005 and 2012 were gems that went under the radar. If you enjoyed this, I really think you would enjoy Monsters vs Aliens. That has been one of my favorites for quite a long time.
I like that metroman chose Musik-it's the only thing where his powers can't help him
He had to learn this by himself
Also none of them had chose their role in society by the self-metroman became a hero because everyone was expecting him to be a hero and megamind-well, we have seen his villian origin story
Also I have seen an interesting theory: people were so tough to megamind because they needed him to become a villian to be sure metroman becomes a hero
We can see that there is no way to stop someone with his powers (and we can see what Hall could do with them and he even wasn't in a full control) so if metroman decided to be a villian it would be a complete disaster
That's why metroman was raised in the prison and why he was sent in the same school as a metroman and also teacher from the beginning wasn't so... Happy about metroman spinning her with the table but he "is a good guy" so she pretended that everything was okay
So many people have been watching this movie lately and I'm glad that this movie has been getting more credit; I really like your perspective as well, You were trying to decipher the movie halfway through it...
Metro man never bullied mega mind. They were just on different sides which is why their relationship is so cool. They're never enemies just opponents.
This is such an underrated movie, more people need to watch it. The sheer amount of great one-liners is awesome, I used to always parrot them when I was younger lol. And I love you random citizen!
The thing about Megamind’s backstory is that it kind of has to be layered in comedy in order to be palatable for family audiences because when you just look at what has objectively happened to him- it’s really disturbing. His home planet was destroyed when he was an infant, and because of his people’s heightened mental capacity he can remember all of it, including his parents sending him away to save him knowing they were doomed. After some other kid punted him out of the range of a mansion he landed in a prison and they just… kept him there. No CPS, no children’s hospital, no nothing. Just incarcerated him from infancy onward. Even when he goes to school he’s set up to fail- blue skin & big head aside they bring him over in cuffs, he’s wearing the prison uniform, if you pay attention to the teacher’s body language she immediately dislikes him. The other kids are having it drilled into their heads that he’s “bad” and shouldn’t be friends with him from the moment they lay eyes on him, because that’s how the grownups treat him and grownups are never wrong, right?
I've watched this movie tons of times and everytime I rewatched it it somehow got better definitely my favorite animated movie of all time.
This is one of the best animated movies everrrr!!! In my opinion. Everything about it is perfect. Sooo underrated! But I'm glad that the younger generation are rediscovering it 😁🌟👏

HIGHLY recommend Prince of Egypt. Another masterpiece by DreamWorks.
Megamind is truly a great DreamWorks film that was missed by a lot of people. Could only imagine what could have been if the movie got more recognition in 2010.
Oh I wasn't expecting this I thought The Lion King was coming today but I'm not complaining lol
Hal was never a good guy. He was the stereotypical “nice guy”. Just being nice to Roxanne to get something in return. To make her owe him.

You are COMPLETELY overreacting about Metroman "bullying" Megamind.
He was barely mean to Megamind at all.
And on multiple occasions, Megamind blatantly causes chaos within the school.
Such a stupid take by you to act like Metroman was a straight up bully to Megamind, when he clearly wasn't.
Literally every time prior to him saying I’m good at being bad he was trying to do good and fit in lol what do you mean
All his chaos was him trying to fit in. He accidentally started a fire trying to make popcorn for the other kids, he made an invention to help him in dodgeball. None of it was him trying to cause chaos or be bad just him using his intellect to try to fit in. Meanwhile while I don't think Metroman intentionally set out to bully him the fact was he was the one joining in on punishing and ostracizing him which is to an extent being mean towards Megamind which in turn drove him to actually become a villain.
If you pause at the right time while megamind is on the big screen u can see metroman in superspeed on one of the screens
I used to love watching this movie lol
One detail about Megamind is that he is also selfless at heart. When he had Metro Man's DNA, he could have given himself powers and he would have been invulnerable to everything and he could do anything he want, but he chose to give it to someone else who fits the role of a hero.
I mean that's not really a sign of being selfless, if anything giving it to someone else is itself a selfish act in the circumstances of the film. He's already able to basically do whatever he wants and as a result is bored and feels like he has no purpose without anyone there to stop him. Making himself more powerful wouldn't help that in the slightest. Meanwhile making a new hero does benefit him and it's that benefit which is his focus. He's not trying to create a new hero to help others or make things better for the city, it's purely about what he wants and making himself happy again. It's an entirely selfish motivation.
It's not in my Top 3, but this film is in my Top 5 animated films that I've ever seen! My list goes something like this:
5. Megamind
4. The Secret of Nymh
3. The Incredibles
2. Aladdin

The basic plot of Megamind came from the writers asking the question "What if Lex Luthor won?" Of course Lex and Megamind are different in terms of things like morals, but it's a genius basis for a movie.
