    4:05 in the books it’s explained that shields produce vibrations that are sure to draw a worm’s attention. Even through they are on a rocky precipice, it is safe to assume that the shield’s vibrations will still travel into the ground, because all materials are still capable of carrying these tremors (even rocks). Given that in Dune part one we see a sand worm stick its head out of the sand to search for Paul and Jessica, it can be assumed that the worm could have stuck its head out of the sand and over the rocky hill to eat the harkonen soldiers (which it would be able to find because of the shield’s vibrations). This is my interpretation.

      This is one of those shows where I think you should use your imagination to work with the show, not against it. Maybe they were worried the fremen would shoot down their ship. Maybe they were under assault in another area, or they were on a strict schedule from their superiors. I think worrying over every scene is unnecessary, given that we only have a limited viewpoint into the world of Dune.
