I love that the film opens with Taki and Mitsuha as adults, talking about how they both feel like they've lost something important. This helps the audience to get into the same headspace as the characters, since we also don't know what they've lost.

I remember hearing someone say "Miyazaki makes the magical feel like the everyday while Shinkai makes the everyday feel magical" and I think this film is a great example of that.

Taki wrote "すきだ" (I love you) and Mitsuha wasn't able to finish writing her name...but she actually wasn't going to write her name in the first place. You can see that in Taki's hand is a long horizontal stroke which isn't how you would start "みつは”, the first stroke is short and to the left. You could argue that she was going for "三葉" which is the Kanji equivalent but its unreasonable to write the second character in what would presumably be a short time.
In other words, she was actually going to write something else that starts with a long horizontal stroke...There's not many characters that fit this bill, depending on your handwriting style, but the character す will always start with a long horizontal line in any handwritten form. Which means that she was probably intending to write "すき" (I love you) herself. 10/10 moment.

I've literally just watched it earlier today and I already want to wipe my memory to watch it for the first time again.
I love how this movie depicted the concept of "dream" so well. When you dream, sometimes, you forget almost immediately when you wake up. Despite how hard you try to still remember it, it will fade away easily. Interestingly, it's not impossible that we might have done something important in our dream, but we just forget it
Yup, a lot of people who watch this get really confused (and sometimes even angry) about how quickly Taki and Mitsuha begin to forget, but odds are they go through the same thing every time they wake up from a dream. And it captures so well that feeling you get when you're desperately trying to hold onto a dream you don't want to forget yet can actually see yourself forgetting in real time. Also how oftentimes the feelings from dreams linger far longer than the memories. I had a dream last night that I forgot the details of within minutes of waking and forgot all the details of within a few more, yet it left me with a feeling of longing that's still lingering as I'm getting ready to start heading for bed tonight.

This is my favourite anime film of all time. I love a silent voice but this film for me is something else. When I saw Mitsuha open her hand for it to say “I love you” broke me the first time I saw it and it has done everytime I’ve watched it since. Your Name will always have a special place in my heart
Silent voice gets me in my feels more but this movie will always make me wanna be in Japan like no other. Miss living there.
They couldn't carve their names on each other's, but even if they forgot everything, the feeling of "I love you" never went away, no matter how long it took.

The reason why taki write "i love you" instead of his name is because in japanese forclore, they say time can take off your memories, but not your feelings... Thats why, they always know like they are searching for something
I absolutely love this movie. And the twist that they are also time traveling is done perfectly. Another animated movie you should look at is Howl's Moving Castle. It tackles war, conscientious objection, pacifism, self-esteem, and belaying your dreams for family.

”Weathering with you“ was great, „Your name“ was emotional, „A silent voice“ made me sad but ”I want to eat your pancreas“ genuinely broke me. Made be cry for the first time in like 10 years. I think they made like 3-4 adaptions of that story it’s that good. The table scene… man.
Weathering with you is probably the worst of them all, has the crappiest story to me like I cannot take it seriously but I agree with pancreas, that movie is only second to your name

This has been my favorite movie for years, the art and foreshadowing alone, like how the movie literally starts with the comet falling but you still don’t see it coming because you forget about it, they even show you a bit of the scene where they spoil that they will forget eachother and where she gives him the bracelet, the first class topic being about twilight being a magic hour where you’re able to see something that isn’t quite there, the grandma saying “you’re dreaming aren’t you” proving its time travel since he’s able to immediately wake up in bed instead of out where mitsuha is in his body since its not actually the same time, I literally notice something knew every watch and that is part of why its my favorite movie of all time
Next for coming is "Weathering with you" and "Suzume"

@@shamanthbondade5183 true. As per me season 3 is better than season 2 though the action in season 2 is better. But mob psycho was never a show where I watched only for action. And the most shocking part to me is that he didn't drop Naruto or one piece which are super long shows whereas mob psycho is super short. Even when I watched one piece, after 100 ep or so I would take a break for a month or two.
It's been almost 3 years and I still can't forget this anime.just the literal thought of this anime makes my eyes with tears.

Oh my gosh man I got chills too at 23:15! I was like you and predicted 2 min into the movie that they were body swapping but the REAL twist came at 23:15 and blew my mind! Such a brilliant movie. Also, 27:10 was one of the most beautiful things I've seen in any movie in a long time, the scenes plus the background music was magical.
