The English Camp on San Juan island still raises the union jack every day. I used to go there a lot with my grandma who lived on San Juan Island and she would talk about the pig war lol. I think it's the only place the US government raises a british flag daily. The pig war is so obscure and forgotten, before this oversimplified video almost no one knew about it. Glad you enjoyed the story!
@@principalmcvicker6530 You wasted your time by being born. You wasted your time by going to school because you went in stupid and came out the same way
San Juan Island is infact the only place the United States Park Service raises another countries flag, putting the Union Jack in the old British camp up every morning
I went to visit the San Juan Islands 20 years ago on my honeymoon. I learned about the pig war from a one-man show at their local community theatre. He was portraying Cornel Pickett, he was extremely funny. He proudly mentioned he graduated from West Point, alright he graduated last in his class. Since the pig war was probably the seminal moment in the history of that island I wouldn't be surprised if they still had something like that at their local theater. A pretty place, probably worth a few days. We stayed in Friday Harbour.
On my TV I'm watching on mute the NHL Network showing TSN's broadcast of Finland vs. Germany from the World Juniors, since there is no American broadcast unless Team USA is playing. (Even the in-game ads are included--I just saw one for Skip the Dishes, which we don't have.) On my laptop I'm watching 2 Neighbours--more Canadian content. Happy Holidays from Rhode Island, where thanks to many immigrants from Quebec and one in particular from Parry Sound, hockey is popular here.
I saw the video and my first thought at the ending I NEED to see their reaction to that, lmao much love from Detroit aka your neighbors to the north, yes Detroit is north of Windsor haha
the map pre 1812 is wrong. we still had parts of Michigan (Detroit was Canada's 3rd biggest city is 1750).. they split the U.P. between family (Annishnabe) homelands. After they drew those borders in the 1820s.
Oh man where were videos like this when I was taking history classes in high school? Oh right I graduated before RUclips became mainstream lol 😂 I’m based on Vancouver Island…and I gotta say, bickering sheep, pig and potato farmers on the smaller islands in this neck of the woods is still pretty much a thing in the 21st century lol. Just add more dope smoking artists to the mix and then you got the Canadian Gulf Islands accounted for lmao 🤣 no really they’re cool folks When that pig stood up and impersonated Morgan Freeman I was not expecting that…and I was drinking water at the time…three guesses what happened next haha

I'm born and raised in Washington state which has the San Juans, and yet while in history class we were never taught about this very important incident that nearly erupted into yet another war with England. Will the US invade Canada 🇨🇦? Not likely, we like our nice neighbors to the north.

There are two Historic Parks there devoted to the Pig War. The American camp and the British Camp.
