Lego train level crossing 10128 automated by Arduino

- This video shows an automated Lego train level crossing set 10128. The barriers are moved by Lego Power Functions motors and powered by an L293D motor driver chip. The Lego train level crossing is controlled by a stand alone Arduino Uno chip.

The barriers are activated by a sensor along the Lego train track which is triggered by the passing train. The barriers remain closed for a few seconds when the last wagon of the train has passed the sensor. This time is adjustable to the speed of the train or the distance between the barriers and the sensor.
The barriers close pretty fast which looks a bit unrealistic. I've done this to prevent problems when I put this automated Lego set in a big Lego train layout. In case of a slower speed of the barriers, the sensor has to be further away from the level crossing. This could be two or three meters which isn't practical.

Great video. The same sensor triggered by a passing train can do many things like light(s) burning or switch a track. The sensor is a one-signal methode and can be used for many things.

About how much did it cost (not including the LEGO set) to make this work? I've wanted to make an automated crossing to display with my local Lego Train Club for years but couldn't bring myself to do it with my expensive Mindstorms stuff.
I'd say around €30 when you use an Arduino clone

Ah i get the technic there are two sensors and as long the trains drive over it it will stay closed i use the same technic in minecraft but with sensores fom one point to a other
only problem when you send over a realy short train like only a locomotiv it will open up aigan
