The Conquest of Space
The first direct exploration of space began on October 4, 1957, on that date the Soviet Union sent an artificial satellite called Sputnik. The rocket was launched from a Russian base located in Kazakhstan. Since that date, space technology has evolved by leaps and bounds, allowing humanity to set foot on the Moon, a space station in orbit housing periodic groups of astronauts, and scientific probes.
What is the purpose of traveling to space?
Space travel is a way of exploring this universe and humanity wants to advance further and further. The main objective is to know who we are, where we came from and where we are going. We also want to know everything possible about the universe that surrounds us, its origin and its end.
What have been the main space achievements achieved to date?
Some of the major space achievements achieved to date include: Manned missions to the Moon: Apollo 11 was the first manned mission to land on the Moon in 1969, led by American astronaut Neil Armstrong.
